I thought Laken #3, Shell Danielson, was quite good, but they struggled writing for her. The struggled writing for all of the Lockridges which I never understood because I thought the family as a whole was quite fun to watch.

Did we ever find out the whole story about why the Dobsons got rid of Dane Witherspoon? If you watch the pilot, Joe is definitely of the show.

When will this great show ever land on one of the streaming channels?

ABC: ‘All My Children’: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Developing Primetime Version
I think it could work. Will it be different? It has to be. It's primetime. It'll be a smaller cast obviously. But, it could be a great way to sort of reinvent Agnes Nixon's creation. I'm hopeful because of the people involved. La Lucci HAS TO be in it.

It would be awesome to have AMC back in some sort of incarnation.

That would have been a much more interesting story to play. it would make sense that Mary would have seen herself at a higher social level and struggle to become blue-collar even if she tried. After all of Mary and Vince's kids left, there wasn't much for them to do. I wonder if the writers ever toyed with bringing Ben back. He was on for such a short time he was pretty much a blank slate.

Lots of plot holes in the Love/Hudson/McKinnon story. I can help but think it had to do with the constant change of writers at the time. I remember the rumor that Scott may have been the "missing triplet." i personally think that would have been one baby too many. I can't remember what happened to Mary and Vince...did they just disappear or formally leave the canvas? After the initial story, the show floundered in what to do with them.

Sunset Beach Discussion Thread
As much as I loved Another World, I did find it curious that NBC didn't schedule Santa Barbara or Sunset Beach after their top ratings getter. The post-AW timeslot was an extra tough one.

I thought Iris injected some energy into the show when she first appeared. Later, the writer's seemed unable to write compelling stories for her. Lemay would have probably done a much better job writing for the character even if he wasn't thrilled with the casting. I also noticed when Lemay returned Rachel got a bit of her edge back again. She had some great confrontation scenes with Sharlene and referred to the Frame family with a "You people" with disgust in her voice. But that edge also was lost once DS took over writing. After that, Rachel never really had a big story until she was paired with Carl.

Passions Discussion Thread
I think a of those former viewers who "grew up" with Passions would watch...and if they do the combo with the supernatural, romance, and handsome guys, new teen viewers would watch. I know the Daytime Emmys lowered the number of required episodes to be considered for awards to 35 episodes within a year. I think revivals should be thought of in a shorter format, less episodes per season to make them more financially viable.

Passions Discussion Thread
In the beginning, the show was kind of entertaining in a weird but fresh way. I often laughed out loud at the dialogue. I watched most of the first few years, but then it started to go off the rails...and that's saying a lot for Passions! The whole Vincent/blackmailer story towards the end was beyond offensive in so many ways. I agree that sometimes JER seemed to be working out some personal issues through his stories. The focus on religion and Catholicism, also on DAYS, sort of came off as a writer torn between his conflicting views. It was such a unique...and yes, odd...show. I do wonder if it would be the best candidate for a revival especially on a streaming service targeting younger viewers...Peacock, for example. I think of the success of the Sabrina revival on Netflix since Passions exists in a similar world.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Agnes Nixon spoke so much about the successes of All My Children and One Life to Live. But, I've never seen an interview with her that focused on Loving. It would have been interesting to get her perspective on why the show never caught on like her earlier creations. I read her autobio, and she didn't mention the show once. I mean you can't call Loving a complete failure. It lasted waaaaaay longer than the majority of TV shows ever do. It really was the little show that could.

Does anyone know how the ratings were at the very end of the Loving murders? Did the story perk up the ratings at the end?

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Although, I do wonder about the whole "if there's smoke there's fire." I wonder if it was in discussion by TPTB. It's been hard for me to watch MR or support the character of Jennifer since the whole Chick-Fil-A mess.

True...the writing was probably on the wall when she joined. While I took issues with a lot of what she wrote, especially how the Walkers suddenly ate the show, just curious as to what others think she wrote right...or stories that had potential if the show would have lasted.

I LOVED the character of Laura once she went crazy! Bunny was a favorite, too.

I remember being very excited when the Dobsons came back, but yes, much of their work fell flat. Cassie had such great potential to be a real force to be reckoned with and having her turn out to be Minx's daughter helped bolster the Lockridge family. But, having her turn out to have had a love affair with Warren seemed so odd, and they had to reconn Warren's birth father to not make them aunt/nephew. Warren's birthfather was never revealed (I suspect they were planning on making it CC), and it all served no purpose in the end. Cassie went nuts and was shipped off. Getting rid of Carrington Garland's Kelly had to be one of the biggest casting mistakes of all time for the show. She was the perfect one to step into Eden's role as lead heroine. I too thought Flame and Michael had potential...sigh. I did enjoy Rosa's return as I thought she was such an interesting character and more of a mother figure to the Capwell kids than Sophia had actually been, especially to Mason. Mason had hinted that CC somehow stole valuable land from the Andrade family, but that plot point evaporated, too. The Santana recast flopped because of personality issues between the actress and the cast. August and Dash was a horrible idea from the word go. Cruz/Suzanne was such a boring story...not to mention implausible.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
wow.... https://tvline.com/2020/06/24/melissa-reeves-racism-days-of-our-lives-instagram-controversy/ Gina Tognoni could be fire in the role (still can't believe Y&R let her go!) and take it in a whole new direction...maybe free Jennifer from the Jack union since both characters are kind of written in a corner at this point.
