As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Yes, she mentioned this in her Locher Room reunion discussion. I also wonder if she may have had a “thing” for Steven Weber who, at the time was with Finn Carter. She said something to the effect of them being very exclusive with one another and her feeling hurt. She also alluded to certain cast members who were having romantic dalliances with co-stars who were clearly not their partners in real life.👀 I mean, we’ve discussed Colleen and Mark in this thread. I do wish someone would at least ask her what it was like to work with Novella Nelson, something I am genuinely curious about but because most soaps didn’t do all that well with writing Black families, I understand why they wouldn’t ask. Also, wasn’t Pinkins around at least until spring ‘86? The Doug Cummings story wrapped in ‘86, right? And Heather had that jarring scene with Doug…wasn’t that in ‘86? The article got the dates wrong.

They mentioned Craig being in jail, so this was likely sometime in the fall, as I remember it was a big Labor Day cliffhanger when Craig was arrested and I think the case was ultimately solved in October, so sometime around mid to late September ‘86 perhaps? Another clue is that Barbara’s shenanigans as it relates to Tom and Margo had obviously been revealed to Lisa, evidenced by the frosty tone between them and Lisa’s desire to buy Barbara out of the partnership, which Barbara was refusing in this scene. And Paul looked like he was in search of a new father figure, despite Duncan’s observation that Paul is protective of his mother. Lisa, in her amateur sleuthing phase sent all the detectives scattering as she entered the police station made me chuckle. Watching that episode reminded me of how far back Emily and Holden were put in each other’s orbit but unfortunately Colleen McDermott’s lack of instincts at the time hampered that effort and Jon was also still ‘green’ and incapable of overcoming a fairly wooden performance from his scene partner in McDermott.

T2 has some (no doubt limited) coverage of Roland Garros right now. It’s free and since tennis coverage hasn’t been comprehensive or truly accessible for a decade, T2 is enough for me.

Y&R: May 2024 Spoilers
Perfect example of their “there can only be one” mentality. People tend to disparage the idea of a “Beta” male but they can’t all be Alphas and you can’t tell a nuanced, balanced story with a bunch of Alphas, in the same way that you can’t just have an “A” story in a television script, you need a B story and ideally a C story as well. We can debate this but imo Paul Williams was a Beta and for years when the storytelling was good for him, it was effective for not just the character but for the show as well.

A Different World (TV Series)
Thank you @dragonfliesfor posting this. I had not seen this reunion special and it made me go and seek it out to watch. A really well done episode too in which RTT was able to get almost all of the key principles to say something- a really thoughtful touch to include Marisa. Hearing Dawnn talk about how she initially thought that the show would be filmed in NYC because she, Lisa and Marisa were all there made me wonder if the vibe of the first season might have been different had it been filmed in NYC. Really touching special though.

Exactly and not only that but we can examine what usually happens when desires and intent pushes up against the “business” of production. The result is a product that is not always what as it was originally conceived. One major factor is that MVJ is also Executive Producer of this show so she is more than a show runner or a ‘gun for hire’ (as screenwriters are sometimes known) she has real investment capital in this entity.

Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
I couldn’t sit through more than 10 seconds of that video, the thought of watching a woman being brutalized is not something that I want to spend time taking in. I have stopped checking for what goes on with Sean Combs decades ago. It’s up to those in charge of this case to determine what repercussions will come of this and why a video from eight years ago is only now seeing the light of day.

If part of the main premise is the fact that these members of this prominent family live in a gated community, jmo but it would make sense for the introduction to occur inside the environs of this gated community. Please just don’t do Generations’ opening episode that spends an ungodly amount of time with Kelly Rutherford hiding/sleeping under a sheet! Any onscreen entertainment that opens with someone half asleep or sleeping for most of the episode sets an ominous tone for the series’ prospects.

Interesting read, thanks for that excerpt @Paul Raven. I remember Scott Bryce talking about those very lengthy days when they would have to film weddings or community event when multiple characters had to be present. Even from Bryce’s recounting, the environment did sound pretty chaotic but he had his way of coping, usually joking with colleagues. Sounds like it was the exact opposite for Granger. I think everyone had at least a couple of fumbles with dialogue but many played it off effectively. My favorites are the actors who incorporated it into the scene, like if there was a scene indicating tension or stress and the actor presented it as if the character were reacting to a stressful or hypersensitive environment as if it were a natural reaction or if the scene partner reacts in the natural way that someone might react to a humorous faux-pas.

Yesterday I was listening to the radio station (community radio) and one DJ’s radio show began with a choral version of “Lift Every Voice And Sing” as she often does but this time, I felt such a stir in my spirit. My thoughts began to drift and I wondered whether MVJ has imagined what her opening scene to the first episode would look like. Has she written it already or merely sketched it out? Occupational hazard, I guess. My mind’s eye started imagining a well to do couple getting ready for a formal event with a flurry of people- stylist, tailor, makeup artist, barber, etc. From an antique radio (that still works), the strains of “Lift Every Voice And Sing” plays softly but distinctly the background. Not as a fan of soaps but culturally as a Black woman and a Black woman who is a writer, it resonated, truly hit home the significance of what this show could truly mean. A recognition not simply in terms of consumers but our creative voices and vision.

Probably because Coleman was ineffably, a character actor when you really look at his body of work. Perhaps the nature of the movie/entertainment business no longer sustains that ability.

Is anyone actually surprised by this? I saw this in the paper yesterday and didn’t even blink, such was my lack of surprise. That is totally his doing but Alito is passing the buck. Why can’t some of these rabid right wing justices start facing impeachment proceedings?

Please be aware that, much like other documentaries of this nature, the first person accounts presented can be quite graphic and may be triggering.
