And if the show is going to have youthful characters (which it should), I would like to see those youthful characters engaged in youthful activities, rather than on the current daytime television soaps where we see young people engaged in activities best reserved for people in their 40s and 50s.

The show needs characters that reflect a spectrum of economic diversity or else it will become monotonous relatively quickly. Even if the core family is a wealthy one, wealthy people don’t just interact with solely wealthy people, particularly if their wealth is self-made, they will interact with others in work and other arenas. I am curious to see how this family made and maintain their wealth, I bet they don’t do it on their own. There will be support staff, at home and work, maybe at the hair salon and the barbershop, tailors, stylists, retailers and doctor’s offices, accountants and bankers, restaurants and cafes, hey, even delivery people —these are all opportunities to flesh out characters who aren’t wealthy but might naturally interact with members of a wealthy family. It cannot be just a bunch of wealthy people interacting with each other with no acknowledgement of others across the socioeconomic spectrum. Once we see “how the other half lives”, the story would feel too confining and dull. But yeah, a show like this needs strivers in the mix. Hey, we all know that within many Black families there can be a mix of economic statuses. Remember Vanessa Williams’ character in Soul Food?

I think there’s a lot of classic television that still airs/streams to enjoy it back in its respective era but this new soap is a chance to break new ground and offer some fresh characterizations and a fresh perspective.

It has become industry standard just by hanging around long enough. Similar to Y&R, they don’t have to do much to maintain loyalty from their base, I guess.

Injury is difficult to contend with but it looks like Lehecka had an absolute fit.

About “The Gates”, I really hope that MVJ avoids the pitfalls that today’s daytime network soaps have fallen into, staying wedded to the same tired tropes and stereotypical themes. Leave the old 20th century Dynasty style catfights where they belong. Women can be as strategic and calculating as any man, show them as captains of industry who are capable of moving and manipulating people and situations as if they are grandmasters moving pieces on a chessboard. 21st century boss moves is something I would like to see. (*Insert GIF of Emily Stewart, seated behind a desk, reclining in a chair , heels atop the desk with a smug expression on her face-if I ever find that clip*).

Why has this not been renewed? Not a good idea to allow a program that helped bridge the digital divide and in an election year. I know that the war in Gaza has dominated political discourse but it’s just not good policy to let something like this lapse, it gives people the impression that government doesn’t care about people in need. I recently read that this is her most successful tour ever. Wow.

When I was in grad school, I used to use a brand called Sophocles. I was able to get it at half price because I was a student and that screenwriting software was the best one I have ever used, superior to FD. I used it lol throughout my MFA program and it never gave me one single problem with typing my screenplays and television scripts. I had read that it was most likely that the developer was bought out by the makers of FD who quashed the software. If my laptop hadn’t died, I would still be using it. It was that good.

I follow Bouzy on Spoutible and yes, his insights are valuable and his predictions have come to fruition so far. @JaneAusten Florida seems iffy but talking to my dad, a Fl resident, he thinks, if anything could possibly swing Florida, it would be the abortion rights issue. But yeah, that is a swing for the fences. Then again, so was Georgia a few years ago.

Don’t get me started! I HATE Final Draft but basically Final Draft muscled out other competing software companies. First, it was FD and Moviemagic colluding to push out smaller screenwriting software companies by secretly buying them out (their own version of “catch and kill”) or just stomping out the vulnerable outfits. Then finally FD effectively rendered MM obsolete by out marketing them. FD is far from the best but they were and are the most ruthless and were able to get award winning screenwriters to promote their software. I despise Final Draft but unfortunately, they are inevitable.

A bit of unfortunate news for fans of this couple. It does make that ending of Roseanna paired up with last new new Craig…it always rubbed me the wrong way and now, this reminds me just how annoyed I was with that “happy ending”.
