  1. Someone posted this, I encountered this at random, and I thought I would post here as an example of just how good Hays was. The way this scene escalate is so enthralling. Hays had Levels!
  2. It does seem like P&G soaps, some of whom like G&L and ATWT and EON paved the way for the daytime drama genre are some of the most disrespected shows, in terms of recognition by all but the most ardent fans. Lisa Brown gone. Some tweets then. Mostly crickets. Hopefully there will be some formal acknowledgment of her contribution to the genre, because heaven knows there was little of that to speak of during her lifetime.
  3. Same. I look at soaps today and even one or two soaps that came about in the late 80s and the 90s and I can’t say the same, looking at them through adult eyes, some of the storylines are insulting to one’s intelligence. At least, I can return to that era and watch and a lot of those storylines still hold up. Sometimes I can even find news things to appreciate, on occasion. As much as I have found some enjoyment revisiting B&B: From The Beginning, some of the stories have aged quite badly. A little contradictory to what she said in the Locher Room when she implied that things were tense right after stating Marland was trying to create a Black family where none had existed in the show’s history before. Then again, about half of Pinkins’ time on the show preceded Marland’s tenure on the show, so those intrigues could very well have been in ‘83-85. Some of that time seemed pretty chaotic at times.
  4. Even though Eileen Fulton was treated very poorly in the show’s final years, at the very least her peers had the good sense to award her with the Liftetime Achievement award, along with Don Hastings, so at least there is that. To my knowledge, no such accolades were ever bestowed upon Kathryn Hays. For years I asked, why won’t the Daytime Emmys give her a Lifetime Achievement award? They give them to game show hosts whose shows are no longer on the air, except perhaps in reruns, so why not Kathryn Hays? Now it really is too late to show her that appreciation.
  5. Well many of you fellow ATWT fans already know how I feel about Ms. Kathryn Hays. I don’t feel as though she ever truly got her due, in terms of individual awards but her imprint and contribution to the legacy of a daytime serial that came to define some of the best of the genre is immeasurable. Kim was not just one half of a core couple, she was a core character on her own and Hays played her with a subtlety and a depth that was and still is unique in the genre. She was one of the reasons why longtime fans could even still recognize that daytime drama in its final years.
  6. Ten years does seem like a lot but I don’t believe it will much impact his career as a producer. As an actor, is an open question, especially if it is on some big studio project. There are a few of his projects that are on hold but if they are far enough in development that he can’t be replaced without losing massive amounts of money, they’ll likely go forward. As for awards, a lot of those are predicated on politics and part of the reason why he won this year was part performance but mostly due to the presence of charm (he ran an effective Oscar campaign) and the goodwill that he’d built up over the years. It may have been in his memoir where he joked about any time he’s won an award (Grammy), he’s never been there in person to receive it. This Academy Awards was his first time being there to receive an award in person. Better he had stayed away.
  7. Mouratogolu is saying he talked with Serena first and it’s “at least for the short term” and Serena has stated her intention to return by Wimbledon but maybe she wants someone new to work with? I don’t think would be a bad thing for Serena to work with someone else if she really wants to return. We know she can win with other coaches, the question is, can Patrick win with other players?
  8. So many politicians are announcing COVID-19 positive test results today. Lots of people getting together sans masks lately. Couldn’t be me.
  9. As I have said, I can only speak for the sport of tennis, as a fan. I cannot speak for other sports. Tennis has a code of conduct, the chair umpires and officials are multi-lingual, they can tell when someone is cursing in Serbo-Croatian or Greek or Russian, so they are fairly up to date (or learn quickly) whenever a player is participating in offensive speech or behavior. Players get penalized. I have a hard time imagining a tennis player getting away with what that Russian gymnast got away with. The Ukrainian tennis players have been very vocal in what they expect from the governing bodies and those bodies seem to have shown sensitivity. I often have complaints about how the sport of tennis is run but not on this issue. In a sport where there is a history of bad behavior, systematic doping ins particular sport and/or event, then, I would understand if they banned athletes in those cases. ‘Maybe there are some issues with marathon or long-distance runners? The Boston marathon might have some type of specific concern?
  10. As a tennis fan, I can appreciate the nuanced take on this situation that the tennis governing bodies have instituted in allowing Belarusian and Russian players to compete, but as neutral players. I am beginning to see rumours (British spelling because the origin of the rumour is British) that certain high profile Russian players could be banned from playing Wimbledon unless they publicly disavow Putin but I am dubious as to the validity of this. I think it makes more sense to allow the athletes in as neutral competitors and give them access to uncensored news coverage whenever possible.
  11. Oh @JaneAusten I am so sorry to hear about your mother. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I hope you have people to surround you with love and to be of comfort to you.
  12. With such unexpected news, that’s understandable. There’s a bevy of tragic news these days, in all directions, it seems.
  13. Shortly after posting up thread about media responsibility, that very sad news about Eric Boehlert came through. 😞
  14. Very sad to hear of this news, on a human level as well as for anyone who appreciated his tweets and dispatches on unvarnished news. Such an untimely passing.
  15. While it was amusing to look at the light-hearted banter, the media with all their short attention spans regarding anything not related to sex and violence, need to also keep front of mind that there were some pretty substantive things that were said in that press conference and signing. The declaration that the intent was always there to start out with a specific goal and to expand the ACA to be more line with something like universal coverage. And the necessary closing of a loophole that was closing off pathway for coverage for millions of family members that happened to live with a head of household that had health insurance via their employers, even though coverage didn’t extend beyond the employees, which excluded family members. Also that Republicans have gotten in the way of making the ACA more expansive and covering more people who would benefit from it. I wish the media would do its actual job and keep these aspects included in the most important aspects of their reports. It’s cool to laugh and reminisce. In these times it served as a balm for most of us, but the media’s job is different from the rest of us…they need to report on what the “meat “ and intent of the actual PC and signing was about, beyond optics.
  16. At long last, some “higher ups”. Apparently, testifying days after her husband Jared, who reportedly gave some information deemed valuable. Allegedly.
  17. Yes, that makes sense @Videnbas. It’s kind of “plotty” though, in the sense that so many plot points are predicated on this relationship happening between two characters that don’t seem to have much romantic chemistry. What a tenuous link. I guess with Grease’s popularity, it was likely seen as a coup in getting Conaway, so they had to try to make it work with the two principle characters who were supposed to be still carrying a torch for one another. It’s kind of dubious though.
  18. Linda Ronstadt is a gem for so many reasons. See the insight on display.
  19. And Patrick McEnroe of all people chastised the ATP players on their behavior. PMac needs to sit this one out.
  20. I am watching the Locher Room episode with Patricia Bruder Debrovner and I guess the advantage of watching the livestream in real time is that you don’t get all the ads.
  21. Having missed certain storylines, particularly going into 1990, would it be a fair guess that the introduction of Mick Savage marks the beginning of the exit storyline for Kristen? It’s beginning to feel rushed in certain aspects. For some reason it almost feels like the show doesn’t have enough time to build stronger chemistry between Kristen and Mick, which is somewhat odd because I felt as if I saw chemistry between Margo and Mick in the first scene where it was just the two of them. And I saw chemistry between Macy and Mick almost immediately but don’t see much of it between Kristen and Mick. Maybe that changes at some point?
  22. And Biden playfully issuing a warning to Obama that there is a “hot mic” elicited giggles too.
  23. I hope the series works out well for him. I liked him on Y&R who sadly underutilized him.
