  1. Shortly after posting up thread about media responsibility, that very sad news about Eric Boehlert came through. 😞
  2. Very sad to hear of this news, on a human level as well as for anyone who appreciated his tweets and dispatches on unvarnished news. Such an untimely passing.
  3. While it was amusing to look at the light-hearted banter, the media with all their short attention spans regarding anything not related to sex and violence, need to also keep front of mind that there were some pretty substantive things that were said in that press conference and signing. The declaration that the intent was always there to start out with a specific goal and to expand the ACA to be more line with something like universal coverage. And the necessary closing of a loophole that was closing off pathway for coverage for millions of family members that happened to live with a head of household that had health insurance via their employers, even though coverage didn’t extend beyond the employees, which excluded family members. Also that Republicans have gotten in the way of making the ACA more expansive and covering more people who would benefit from it. I wish the media would do its actual job and keep these aspects included in the most important aspects of their reports. It’s cool to laugh and reminisce. In these times it served as a balm for most of us, but the media’s job is different from the rest of us…they need to report on what the “meat “ and intent of the actual PC and signing was about, beyond optics.
  4. At long last, some “higher ups”. Apparently, testifying days after her husband Jared, who reportedly gave some information deemed valuable. Allegedly.
  5. Yes, that makes sense @Videnbas. It’s kind of “plotty” though, in the sense that so many plot points are predicated on this relationship happening between two characters that don’t seem to have much romantic chemistry. What a tenuous link. I guess with Grease’s popularity, it was likely seen as a coup in getting Conaway, so they had to try to make it work with the two principle characters who were supposed to be still carrying a torch for one another. It’s kind of dubious though.
  6. Linda Ronstadt is a gem for so many reasons. See the insight on display.
  7. And Patrick McEnroe of all people chastised the ATP players on their behavior. PMac needs to sit this one out.
  8. I am watching the Locher Room episode with Patricia Bruder Debrovner and I guess the advantage of watching the livestream in real time is that you don’t get all the ads.
  9. Having missed certain storylines, particularly going into 1990, would it be a fair guess that the introduction of Mick Savage marks the beginning of the exit storyline for Kristen? It’s beginning to feel rushed in certain aspects. For some reason it almost feels like the show doesn’t have enough time to build stronger chemistry between Kristen and Mick, which is somewhat odd because I felt as if I saw chemistry between Margo and Mick in the first scene where it was just the two of them. And I saw chemistry between Macy and Mick almost immediately but don’t see much of it between Kristen and Mick. Maybe that changes at some point?
  10. And Biden playfully issuing a warning to Obama that there is a “hot mic” elicited giggles too.
  11. I hope the series works out well for him. I liked him on Y&R who sadly underutilized him.
  12. Yes, I agree and for years I have been saying the same thing in regards to P&G soaps like As The World Turns. I once worked as a liaison to an archive for a performance art institution and I am still flabbergasted when I hear that any company neglects their archive. It’s time consuming sure, but so worthwhile.
  13. Wasn’t there someone on this board years ago who used to mock her by quoting Phyllis as saying my “huzzband” and “dotter” when saying husband and daughter?
  14. POTUSes #44 and 46 are speaking about the ACA a.k.a.ObamaCare.
  15. ICYMI, the latest developments on immigration.
  16. Whew, you hung in there a lot longer than me because I was through with this nonsense years ago. It’s so bad and you’re right, it’s incredibly lazy!
  17. With all the violence occurring daily in some section of world, it’s often difficult to keep up but we should never forget the waves of indiscriminate gun violence that plagues the U.S. on a constant basis. by the way, I often look for links on SM where you can read the article free of firewalls. I don’t personally know these people. I don’t even follow most of them. TheIr posts simply provide a free, unfettered link to the article.
  18. Who are the not-so-smart people staying on a waitlist for this nonsense?
  19. I have never heard of this guy but then again, I guess I don’t follow any misinformation specialists.
  20. Interesting that a political shift leftward is attracting investment to a European country.
  21. The only one that Smith really has to make amends to is Chris Rock. All the folks screaming about “what about the children who were watching” don’t seem to realize that at those dismal ratings, hardly anyone was even watching let alone young, impressionable children, who, even if they live on the West Coast were likely to be playing video games not watching this overlong ceremony. But yeah, the Academy awards committee has a real problem with relevance or looming irrelevance, and it’s not going away anytime soon.
  22. Maybe I don’t pay as much attention to social media as I used to because I haven’t heard any calls for the character to be killed off. At least not from people who watch the actual series.
  23. JMO but I doubt the Academy would have expelled Will, they would likely have suspended him for a year or two. It’s unlikely that he would have won another Oscar for acting anyway, so I doubt he is that pressed about his departure. And his leaving simply means he won’t be eligible to vote for nominees, he can still be a nominee in future, should lightning strike twice. Hopefully the media can move on to other things, I mean Alec Baldwin shot and killed someone and I don’t think that issue has been resolved as it pertains to what restitution has been made to her family.
  24. The casting is really good imo. I actually think the actor who plays Carlton is good at playing angst, which is what I think they wanted Carlton to be like for most of the first season. Like @Noel, I didn’t get any type of vibe that Will would be eliminated since the story of Bel Air is about his life there. I don’t think they will kill Will off at all. What happens with the real life celebrity has nothing to do with what goes on with this series.
