  1. What are the chances of Col. Alexander Vindman and his brother Yevgeny being interviewed as children in 1985 by Ken Burns? It opens a poignant video essay that is worth a viewing. No paywall to climb over.
  2. That battle of the German ladies was quite a contest, but man that court looked slow! Well dang, I didn’t know about the DV charge that is pending. We will have to see how this flushes out. It’s going to be inter to see how the ATP handles this (or not). I mean, is anyone hearing about Basilashvili these days? Wasn’t he the player who had a DV case in the courts? EDT: *interesting*. This keypad is not the most intuitive, I tell ya.
  3. POC= Person Of Color. This morning on the news shows, the only tennis news items that got mentioned were the dust up between Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas and the return of Roger Federer to the grounds of the All England Club at Wimbledon. This mornings’ paper had an article in the sports section that only mentioned 4 people in the lede: Roger Federer, Venus and Serena Williams, and Rafael Nadal, asking how much longer can they play and proposing that perhaps they can play for longer than previously believed. Tennis higher ups are panicking because these are the few players that can sell tickets anywhere they go, regardless of the tournament or location. Someone who worked at the U.S. Open once told me that they “put butts in seats”.
  4. It appears that you may be in the wrong thread. Here is the NYT Obituary for Peter Brook. It seems as though Hamlet may have had a special place for him.
  5. That Wimbledon 100 ceremony, as nice as it was to see Venus was a total distraction to someone who hadn’t competed on a tennis court until this tournament for almost a year. Couldn’t they have waited until tomorrow? And only one POC on that damn court. What a legacy!
  6. Oh wow, you’re welcome @slick jones! I am glad that any of my posts contribute to your efforts. Is anyone going to put all the information that you have compiled into a database? I feel like it deserves to go into. A sleek, accessible database.
  7. This is very sweet. Love the exchange of respect between the two.
  8. Janet Turnt Up at Essence Fest last night!
  9. Once had the chance to meet him along with my class in graduate school, after a RSC performance of Hamlet in the early 00s. He was still active and working as a director. “The Empty Space” is canon in the world of theatre and most likely sits on the bookshelf of every drama practitioner. R.I.P.
  10. So apparently, there are domestic abuse allegations (which have resulted in a restraining order) against Ricky Martin, which he is denying.
  11. You can tell Alizé Cornet was unfazed by Iga Swiatek’s game on grass. Cornet beat Serena a few times so I knew Cornet was going to relish taking on and the possibility of taking out the current #1. Others of the WTA will likely be taking note. Swiatek’s spell was broken. Cornet picked up on the vulnerabilities and exploited them.
  12. Newsweek is a complete and utter junkpile. I think the last time I ventured onto their website years ago, I had to dig my way out from under pop-ups in order to exit the site. Just garbage.
  13. Me too. And same from me @Cat. I hope you are well now. Wow @victoria foxton, are we sure the numbers haven’t been accidentally reversed?! He looks a lot older than 48!
  14. Anisimova came through and I’m not mad at it. Hopefully there will be a nice little rivalry developing between Anisimova and Gauff. It could push each young woman to get better and it could be really good for women’s tennis and tennis overall. The sport could kind of use it right now.
  15. A mother who lost her child to mass gun violence speaks.
  16. For the past eight months, I have been whispering this to myself. Looking at the NBC handle reminds me that NBC really needs to clean house. Chuck Todd and Peter Alexander.
  17. It would be good if at least an appreciation for doubles could be cultivated but we know it’s unlikely to go beyond the tournament. Oh well. I guess the lighter viewing/streaming schedule allows me to get actual work done during the day.
  18. Nathan, Olivia, Neil, Dru and Malcolm were the last generation to really mix things up freely with the other characters outside of their group dynamic. Before that, while you didn’t have very many Black characters, those who were on the canvas like Amy Lewis and her father Detective Frank Lewis, who mainly interacted with the Williams and Abbott families, Nathan and Phil Morris, who wasn’t given the best of storylines.👀 But I think after Victoria Rowell, Tonya Lee Williams and Shemar Moore left, there was little to no effort to have the Winters really having storylines that branched out of their bubble. Even with Lily, other than romantic relationships there seemed to be minimal engagement in storylines outside of the Winters bubble.
  19. That Venus/Jamie MXD match was a delight. Should have won it in straight sets but came through in the third set.
  20. The Bold and the Beautiful built their series on their two families and dug into this concept until recently. These incestuous connections were among the main reasons why I could never fully get into that show. It was so extreme.
  21. There have been a couple of entertaining matches but most of the matches have been a definite skip for me. Serena, even though she lost, her match was an on the edge of your seat type thriller. Most of these matches have been dull but most of the players themselves have pretty lackluster personalities.
  22. They’re already missing dearly departed Katherine Helmond, they had better try get the rest of the core cast, for appearances at the very least. Even a cameo from the actress who played Mrs. Rossini (who is still alive) would likely be welcomed. I am not as resistant as some others would be to this, but I would find it odd if they end up splitting Angela and Tony.
