  1. Me too. And same from me @Cat. I hope you are well now. Wow @victoria foxton, are we sure the numbers haven’t been accidentally reversed?! He looks a lot older than 48!
  2. Anisimova came through and I’m not mad at it. Hopefully there will be a nice little rivalry developing between Anisimova and Gauff. It could push each young woman to get better and it could be really good for women’s tennis and tennis overall. The sport could kind of use it right now.
  3. A mother who lost her child to mass gun violence speaks.
  4. For the past eight months, I have been whispering this to myself. Looking at the NBC handle reminds me that NBC really needs to clean house. Chuck Todd and Peter Alexander.
  5. It would be good if at least an appreciation for doubles could be cultivated but we know it’s unlikely to go beyond the tournament. Oh well. I guess the lighter viewing/streaming schedule allows me to get actual work done during the day.
  6. Nathan, Olivia, Neil, Dru and Malcolm were the last generation to really mix things up freely with the other characters outside of their group dynamic. Before that, while you didn’t have very many Black characters, those who were on the canvas like Amy Lewis and her father Detective Frank Lewis, who mainly interacted with the Williams and Abbott families, Nathan and Phil Morris, who wasn’t given the best of storylines.👀 But I think after Victoria Rowell, Tonya Lee Williams and Shemar Moore left, there was little to no effort to have the Winters really having storylines that branched out of their bubble. Even with Lily, other than romantic relationships there seemed to be minimal engagement in storylines outside of the Winters bubble.
  7. That Venus/Jamie MXD match was a delight. Should have won it in straight sets but came through in the third set.
  8. The Bold and the Beautiful built their series on their two families and dug into this concept until recently. These incestuous connections were among the main reasons why I could never fully get into that show. It was so extreme.
  9. There have been a couple of entertaining matches but most of the matches have been a definite skip for me. Serena, even though she lost, her match was an on the edge of your seat type thriller. Most of these matches have been dull but most of the players themselves have pretty lackluster personalities.
  10. They’re already missing dearly departed Katherine Helmond, they had better try get the rest of the core cast, for appearances at the very least. Even a cameo from the actress who played Mrs. Rossini (who is still alive) would likely be welcomed. I am not as resistant as some others would be to this, but I would find it odd if they end up splitting Angela and Tony.
  11. Finally, I saw the In Memoriam segment and it was just okay, imo. Some people were asking why Michael Bolton wasn’t moving his face and if he’d had some type of Botox. I think he was trying to have a restrained performance, befitting the solemnity of the occasion. I appreciate that he was not delivering the type of overwrought performance that he might have delivered in the 1980s or 90s. Still, the tone of the song itself, not to mention the desperation of those lyrics just doesn’t strike quite the right note, imo, especially given the fact that there were people who died of suicide in that segment. Not mentioning Lisa Brown’s work as part of an important coupling on Guiding Light, the first televised daytime drama, is an omission that I just cannot fathom how that happened, especially given that Michael Tylo was in that same segment. Did they not have time to include Marni Schulenberg in this year’s segment? Hopefully Kathryn Hays will also be included in the prime time Emmy In Memoriam segment. We all know that even the Daytime Emmys organization has more deference to the Primetime Emmy awards than their own, not to mention that there was more media (not just social media) engagement in regards to Hays’ Star Trek appearance than her decades of work on As The World Turns.
  12. Just as I had suspected, this tragedy was a result of domestic violence in which this woman was targeted. It was not an act of random violence. People who are claim this issue has nothing to do with guns clearly lack the ability to see the forest for the trees. What on earth do they think he used to end this young woman’s life?! And he had a history of DV, which had already been reported to the police.
  13. ICYMI: SCOTUS is pretty much trying to undo as much as possible when it comes to anything resembling a decent quality of life for most human beings in the United States of America. Just in time for Independence Day.
  14. UES is currently trending because of the tragedy of a woman being shot and mile as she pushed a baby in a stroller and the Upper East Side of Manhattan is a wealthy predominantly white enclave. Harlem had a mass shooting last weekend with nary a word on SM. It certainly did not trend. Perhaps if the epidemic of gun violence had been taken seriously and not just dismissed as a “them problem” as it plagued inner cities, we might not be in this position today, living with a veritable Sword Of Damocles hovering over our collective heads.
  15. No testing at Wimbledon is not a smart decision. Hopefully my faves will stay safe. One has already made a questionable move.🤨
  16. Thank you for putting that so succinctly. Chuck Pratt and even Mel whatever his name was, didn’t want MM/Hilary being a lead and as Hilary, she got uncomfortably close to being a lead. Never forget that interview where Pratt’ groused about budgeting for specific characters who also happened to be Black. Why should people forget about this. I have never understood why other fans can write, call, call out, picket and boycott inequities in the system while soap fans are expected to behave as if they’ve had lobotomies. People may not like agitation but it does produce results (“Oscars So White” Anyone?) As the saying goes “Pressure produces diamonds”. And what is this genre producing? Anyway, I do hope that Mishael can parlay her win into more opportunities to work on other platforms and do interesting work. If nothing else, the historic nature of her win should put her on the radar of other producers in the entertainment industry. Hopefully.
  17. Something similar happened to an African-American teacher (or was he a Vice-Principal?) who was asked to remove photos of his wife, who is white, from SM. I think he was fired eventually, but the reason cited was parents upset that he was seen to be embracing a “Woke” curriculum. 🙄
  18. Now that Kelly is a convicted sex predator, these holdout radio shows that tried to play his songs, claiming that he hadn’t been convicted (prompting me to turn away from the stations in disgust) no longer have any excuse. I better not hear one bar of “I Believe I Can Fly” or “Happy People”, or whatever that two-step song is. Folks need to let him go.
  19. I vaguely remember that story. Someone posted a TV promo for that storyline and for some reason, I found the promo pretty funny. The actress seemed solid and engaging, as as she was clearly a vixen. Had the character been someone like Kirk Anderson instead of Sean Baxter, who was fairly new and had a very thin tie to the canvas through Courtney, (a fairly recently introduced character herself), the story may have had more resonance but I guess, given Kirk’s recent storyline with Lenore, Kirk’s ex-wife and coming off the very messy storyline of his breakup with Iva to marry her sister Eli (which still seems so wrong even now, decades later), not to mention an early storyline introducing Kirk’s former employer and ex-lover Adelaide Fitzgibbon, it might have been too much of a “case of the ex” for Kirk.
  20. Will the marathon of appeasement to Republicans never end?
  21. His flowers were late in being delivered but he did finally get his flowers late in his life/career. R.I.P. Mr. Gilliam. https://artreview.com/sam-gilliam-has-died-aged-88/
  22. Listen, I am of Afro-Caribbean heritage and I am a woman. I even have family who migrated from the West Indies and settled in Toronto, so there is a certain pride of place seeing those photographs of MM cradling her Emmy. I am glad for Mishael’s success, but the fact remains that she should have won years ago when she was far and away playing the most compelling character on the canvas, Hilary Curtis. As Hillary Curtis, MM really had the chance to give a dynamic performance with each appearance, rising above a lot of dreck that had been written for her. It’s weird that she didn’t win for her work for her last year on the show as Hilary. And it’s weird that, in a genre famous for bringing people back from the dead, they didn’t revive such a dynamic character. But this is also the show that refuses to bring back one of their most popular characters because she point out the obvious. Anyway… I hope Mishael is able to parlay her Emmy to better opportunities. Again, as I stated before, congratulations to her and all the awardees.
