  1. Something similar happened to an African-American teacher (or was he a Vice-Principal?) who was asked to remove photos of his wife, who is white, from SM. I think he was fired eventually, but the reason cited was parents upset that he was seen to be embracing a “Woke” curriculum. 🙄
  2. Now that Kelly is a convicted sex predator, these holdout radio shows that tried to play his songs, claiming that he hadn’t been convicted (prompting me to turn away from the stations in disgust) no longer have any excuse. I better not hear one bar of “I Believe I Can Fly” or “Happy People”, or whatever that two-step song is. Folks need to let him go.
  3. I vaguely remember that story. Someone posted a TV promo for that storyline and for some reason, I found the promo pretty funny. The actress seemed solid and engaging, as as she was clearly a vixen. Had the character been someone like Kirk Anderson instead of Sean Baxter, who was fairly new and had a very thin tie to the canvas through Courtney, (a fairly recently introduced character herself), the story may have had more resonance but I guess, given Kirk’s recent storyline with Lenore, Kirk’s ex-wife and coming off the very messy storyline of his breakup with Iva to marry her sister Eli (which still seems so wrong even now, decades later), not to mention an early storyline introducing Kirk’s former employer and ex-lover Adelaide Fitzgibbon, it might have been too much of a “case of the ex” for Kirk.
  4. Will the marathon of appeasement to Republicans never end?
  5. His flowers were late in being delivered but he did finally get his flowers late in his life/career. R.I.P. Mr. Gilliam. https://artreview.com/sam-gilliam-has-died-aged-88/
  6. Listen, I am of Afro-Caribbean heritage and I am a woman. I even have family who migrated from the West Indies and settled in Toronto, so there is a certain pride of place seeing those photographs of MM cradling her Emmy. I am glad for Mishael’s success, but the fact remains that she should have won years ago when she was far and away playing the most compelling character on the canvas, Hilary Curtis. As Hillary Curtis, MM really had the chance to give a dynamic performance with each appearance, rising above a lot of dreck that had been written for her. It’s weird that she didn’t win for her work for her last year on the show as Hilary. And it’s weird that, in a genre famous for bringing people back from the dead, they didn’t revive such a dynamic character. But this is also the show that refuses to bring back one of their most popular characters because she point out the obvious. Anyway… I hope Mishael is able to parlay her Emmy to better opportunities. Again, as I stated before, congratulations to her and all the awardees.
  7. This seems like kind of a big deal. Strange though for the last two weeks or so, most of the stories being reported about the Russian economy seemed to suggest that oil purchases from China and India were keeping Russia’s economy remarkably resilient. Seems there is a different story emerging now, what with Russia defaulting on its foreign debt for the first time since 1918 and all. EDT. Oh, so technically Russia can afford to pay but are unable due to sanctions? Apparently their payments are being rejected. The very illustration of the phrase “Your money is no good here”.
  8. Methinks he’s being sarcastic, but yeah, this wasn’t even a slap.
  9. Ashe was the conscience of sport, tennis especially. His death left a huge void.
  10. What an idiot. And idiots will cast their votes for this person.
  11. Undocumented women who find themselves in need of an abortion will be particularly vulnerable because of rulings like this deportation ruling that came down on June 10 but was not appealed. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/25/us/immigration-enforcement-priorities-court.html
  12. That comment by Miller is the least surprising thing I have heard in the past 24 hours. I have been telling friends and family that this was the end goal for many right-wingers and Trump backers.
  13. Is Congress going to continue to be late with everything? It’s as if the bare minimum is getting accomplished.
  14. They feel free to remove their hoods. And the stunods trying to say that Cornyn was saying that Plessy v. Ferguson is like Roe v. Wade and the Supreme Court overturning it is akin to Brown v. Board of Education miss the entire point. They are nothing like each other.
  15. Gurl, no.
  16. It’s too bad that those consequences haven’t had as lasting an impact nationally as the vote for Thomas. His confirmation continues to reverberate in the most negative of ways, down to his wife Ginny’s harassment of Hill for her testimony decades after the fact. Whoo boy, if even 15 years ago, someone were to ask which country would have the most repressive abortion law in 2022 and the choices were Chile, Ireland and the United States-how many people would have chosen the correct answer? Let that sink in: Ireland has more progressive abortion laws in 2022 than the United States of America.😵
  17. I didn’t watch one minute of this ceremony but congratulations to Mishael Morgan and all the awardees. Clearly Morgan should be getting leading actress caliber storylines. Is she? I am asking viewers because I stopped watching Y&R years ago.
  18. People overlooking the fact that Joe Manchin voted for both Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to be confirmed to SCOTUS with absolutely no repercussions. Honestly, does this ever happen with the Republicans? Of course, 11 Democrats voted for Clarence Thomas, completely dismissing Anita Hill’s crucial and damning testimony. What an infamous vote that turned out to be. Midterms will be interesting.
  19. When the clip goes up on the YouTube, I guess I can catch it there. Sounds like they’ve done the least.
  20. My comment was solely based on what has been happening with Netflix, I understood your post but my response was not concerning that.
  21. How will the Daytime Emmy awards honor Kathryn Hays and Lisa Brown? Will it be more than just their photos flashing by on an In Memoriam segment? They owe these ladies more than that. Kim Hughes was likely the last character ever created by Irna Phillips, who built the foundation on which the daytime drama stands and there ought to be some recognition of that. The great shame of the daytime emmys is never having awarded Hays an Emmy during her lifetime— not eve a lifetime achievement award, which could have been done even in the years after the show was canceled while she would have been alive to receive it. Now it’s really too late. Lisa Brown created two iconic daytime drama characters and she left without any official acknowledgment from the daytime emmys. Shame on these folks.
  22. Netflix is dropping a lot of their current roster of shows into cancellation. I doubt this would be a consideration for them.
  23. I stopped calling the U.S. a developed country ages ago. No nation with such rampant inequality can rightfully lay claim to being called a developed country.
