  1. Why do you think Agnes Nixon jumped ship to ABC? She had headaches with p and g...and feeling stifled by their rules. No surprise that p and g were unwilling to change even in the 90s and thereafter.
  2. I think we all have to remember that to them, this was a job... and everyone always likes and dislikes certain aspects of a job. Thinking about that, I've softened my stance on Robin Wright and her lack of warmth in regards to her 4 year stint on SB. To us, we loved seeing her act.. but she did have her 1st husband fired, then the show basically forcing her to stay an extra year just so she could film A princess Bride.. then the writers putting her character into a hamster wheel post Joe (first with Nick/Dylan.. then with Jeffery/TJ)... I could see why she would quit because the challenge wasn't there anymore. I do love seeing Julia pre-Mason.. and going through two or three bad romances her first 18 months or so before she and Mason start their slow descent to being a couple. It was a blessing for Julia as a character, yet also a curse.... because her character was almost trapped in the Mason/Julia vortex.. and it didn't help that the characters over a 4.5 year span broke up and made up three times. I don't recall Eden/Cruz doing that after they finally married in spring 1988 until Marcy Walker departed in mid 1991. They had stormy times, but never broke up.. even when her ex flame Robert came back into the picture.
  3. I will say I'm going to miss the Pollack's when they depart The Doctors. While their take on characters wasn't as deep as Lakin's, they more then made up for it with plot and playing the fall out of certain stories (except killing Margo off too soon). I am surprised that the whole bunny event and being sick from being bitten by the bunny hasn't been mentioned... but it is nice to see that Greta acting loopy wasn't just forgotten after 1970/1971.. but was bought back up in 1975.
  4. How the mighty have fallen... karma has come a calling for Luann. After the way she treated Alex several seasons ago, I'm so glad to see how Luann has slowly fallen from that pedestal she put herself in. If it happened to Luann, it will happen to Bethenny as well... karma doesn't pick and choose.. just picks when to strike.
  5. She was kind of icy ad Maggie, but she also was maternal and warm when it warranted. Her and Matt had more a witty banter. When Lydia first came on, she tried to mimic that and came across more bitchy then icy/sarcastic...so the character was softened. I like both actresses take on Maggie. I think realistically Carolee couldn't be the same person she was back when Lakin created her. The Pollacks did retain carolees sarcasm and quirkiness..but also reflected a more serious ajdnsomber undertone since she had a crazy husband, her baby got kidnapped, and had to deal with Mona and now Karen. And during less stressful times, the character did have some fun scenes. I think the Pollacks were better at long term story and less strong on character moments...but man they took a Lakin story of karen/Steve from 1968...and are still playing the effects ofnthat in 1975...plus even are playing the maggie/matt/karen stuff as well. That's the secret of good writing....and it appears that Depriest and Marland will undo all that when they take over. I think Marland became the writer he became after his he messed up on the Doctors turning it a family soap instead of maintaining the doctor/medical aspect.
  6. I think marcel is Valerie....the opening is from season 2 of the original show.
  7. In regards to Michael/iris...it doesn't get mentioned..but Donna and Iris never become friends again. They don't cat fight but they bicker whenever they cross paths and once in awhile Iris would bring up being with Michael...but they never have michael/iris really interact much.
  8. It's nice to see Lydia/Gina having a close moment... they started the series as friends for years..and never really recovered after all the cheap that happened in season 1. While I do like Gina, she isn't perfect and I think her personality can turn people off....and I think that's what happened with Gamble/Gina.
  9. So I've caught up to mid January 1975. Karen is unhinged...but I do like that the character Rita Lakin created is still used to great effect by the Pollack 7 plus years later...along with the fallout of a short term fling between her and Steve. Like Toni's new hair style...but I don't see the fire between her and Alan. We're they popular when the shoe aired originally? Killing Margo off has made them filler. And I kind of like the actor playing Mike...but I know he doesn't last. Nice to see Steve is still talking down to Carolee like shed an infant. Why were they popular again?
  10. Either cut fitness is doing well...or she's gotten a nice hefty guarantee for season 13 and maybe a little bonus money for that reunion embrace with Vicki? Cynical I know I am
  11. It d oesnt matter who they cast, if the writing is shallow and lacking deoth..it won't help. I'd fire the gossip girl duo as showrunner to start and bring on a good soap writer that knows how to pace and structure a plot. Pollack did it on dynasty and Ann Marcus did it on knots landing. And if stop trying to make the Carrington family seem like good prople..its 2017 and most Americans aren't too keen on the elite right now..hence why it's a shame how the show wrote Claudia. She could habe been that outsider that represents the audience. And throwing shade is fun, but that's all the show is doing. All shade with littlenelse makes a shoe pretty boring and unmemorable.
  12. I truly think Cynthia remains in the shoe because of her on point hair and outfit choices. Plus, don't we all need a semi normal person in the group?
  13. It drops..but never to later season Dynasty/Dallas levels. First half of season 13 is the lowest in terms of quality..but still a stable if you forget you are watching Knots. Season 9 has some good scenes/stories..and not so good stories as well and an awesome cliffhanger (which fell during the 1988 writers strike so the wait for its resolution must habe been nailbiting. I remember my mom watching S10 premiere eagerly when I was little).
  14. She will be remembered for Paige and Edie (a small part that grew due to both writing and her acting). If anything, this has generated some buzz for the show..and I can see her playing Alexis as both cold, yet warm.
  15. Why is Porsha still a cast member? Not shade, just a curious question. Fingers cross that season 13 is a lucky 13 for OC. They need a house cleaning...this is the one show that excels at it. Season 9 was the last interesting year for the show. If people want OC not to be toxic..why even suggest bringing back Gretchen? She had nothing to offer and I don't production liked her very much either.
  16. Just caught up in the December 1974 episodes...bad decision writing out Margo...she should habe remained a Thorne in the sides of Alan/Toni...heck even been a wildcard once mike returned. I think 1975 would have been a good year if it had been a Margo/Toni/Alan/Mike quadangle. Short sighted of the show. Odd still seeing Ann and Carolee as friends...ill be intrigued to see the reason for Ann's change of character.
  17. I think warren/Eden were scrapped because the two had a few scenes together when she first came to town..and the chemistry w asnt there...yet was there instantly with Cruz. With Peter holding Amy/Joe hostage at the Perkins house...we don't see Jade nor the mom...which is a shame. If I recall correctly..when Joe dies...all the focus is on Kelly's grief while Jade/Marisa aren't shown for weeks. At that point, it was apparent the Dobsons thought the Capwells were gold..and the other characters not worth anything. If you saw the first episodes, Warren was hitting on Jade and there was chemistry yet they were dropped for him with Summer.
  18. Only positive of Mac's death was the evolution of Iris and Rachel's relationship...which always seemed to be in a hamster wheel in the 70s..and at the start of Iris' return in late 1988. After Mac's death till 1994...there were times Iris and Rachel got along...even teamed up at times especially when it came to Jake. I don't think the show would have done that had Mac lived. In an odd way, Iris would forever be haunted with hurting her daddy and never making up with him before he died. It was the one unexpected positive that Swajeski really mined to great effect.
  19. Ringer was on the wrong network. It was a pilot for CBS but they passed because they didn't do serialized shows so CW picked up. The ratings dropped after a 2 month hiatus..and the demos skewed older then CW wanted. Nowadays it would be a hit for CW. Great show (3 season bible) wrong network and era.
  20. In the 80s, ATWT, AW and GL all seemed to veer away from their original founding families. AW was the only one of the three to succeed in getting rid of their original founding family....while ATWT and GL had their families gutted but were repaired in the late 80s and 90s. By the end of both GL and ATWT...both the Bauers and Hughes families were shells of their former selves....while the tacky Coppers and Snyder's reign supreme (still hate that the yucky Snyder kitchen survived to the end, but not the more superior Hughes family sets).
  21. I was excited for Simon and Katie because I thought two grey characters coming together...the anti hero and hwroine...but both kind of got declared. It's why I liked when the actress joined OLTL after ATWT and got to play a fun con artist...that I realized she was good at playing shifty con artist characters. The Endicott awards was a great exposure for Katie...and I also liked when Lyla visited one Christmas after Katie eloped with Simon where Katie' s lies about how horrible her mother was to her was exposed.
  22. So I read the final dossier and I think I'm satisfied with the show even if it doesn't come back again. The questions I had from the original shows finale were answered (a shame a season 3 didn't happen back in the early 90s to see the hayward/horne fallout as described in the final dossier...but so sad about Annie though it makes sense).
  23. I'm sorry... still like Shannon...shes fascinating to watch. She's an interesting case study and has interesting quirks. She is almost too real..if that makes sense. At the same time, Lydia is fascinating in a different way. I actually think she and Shannon are more alike..hence the discord. Both are from money, isolated from real-life, and are k8nd of entitled. But I like both of them...and at least Lydia is saying all this to Shannons face as opposed to behind her back.
  24. Yeah, Marland wasn't great with consistently writing quirky humor... even his character Nola and Quint on GL had a gothic undertone.. and they became more comical/slapstick when Pam Long wrote them. On ATWT, I do think he did the talky talk and gossip moreso here then on his previous shows. It just fit better on ATWT then it did on other shows that he wrote, and I'm sure he recognized that.. hence why his GL was more light and not as dark as his ATWT was (thought the first year or two wasn't so dark.. but probably due more to the tone set forth by SBH... who if you've ever seen in interviews reminds me so much of early Shannon O'hara in terms of quirkiness.).
  25. At least Nikki was consistent with being a bored housewife....she was bored when married to Greg Foster...and how she would con Los foster into doing her housework for her...and Chris Brooks trying to explain to Nikki how she could be a good wife lol In a weird way, I think tying Nikki to Victor limited her character in the long run.
