I think she could have made R eva work in the late 90s...and I know she wouldn't have ever thought of bringing in the mob or creating that stupid island. The reason Pam Long didn't work on OLTL wad because that show was about a more urban area, class differences, etc. Santa Barbara was quirky and more avant garde then what Pam Long wrote. She seemed strongest on family stories..rather in the country or smaller towns. She even created a drama in the 90s for ABC that was decent (but in a bad time slot). She helped steer the show correctly in 1983/1984...and came back in the 2nd half of 1987 and helped fix the show then....so I could have seen her doing that again in 1998/99... I could have seen her keeping the momentum if rick/Abby as the next tent pole couple...and helped focus the drew/michelle/bill/drew stuff. I just think she is better at turnaround and not steering the ship long term...but picking the correct course.

I'm loving the episodes from summer of 1984...there is a lot of Bert, Hilary, Ed, Rick, and Mike being featured strongly in their own stories plus being support in others. It's a shame the momentum loses steam by that fall. I liked Mike being featured fairly early in the Susan piper story....still think it's a waste Nola didn't play some part in that wtory...cpuld you have imagined scenes of Susan piper and No la? Or even scenes of Reva and No la? I did happen to see the scenes where Hilary is killed..and faintly remember watching it with my mom when I was very little and my mom being surprised at Hilary being killed. A shame since she was a great character and would have been fairly active as a b auer, a young anti heroine, and a nurse at cedars...plus when holly/roger/Blake came on in the late 80s....she would have been used effectively. A shame.

I was too young to remember 1984...but who did Mike click with better...alexandra or Lillian? I'll say I recall 1985 as a very small child..and liked beth/Lujack...and India. I even liked the infinity story though I recall my mom thinking it was kind of stupid until the conclusion resulted in Lujacks death...with Alexandra heartbroken over losing her new found son (I think that explained why she was so clingy with Nick...a second chance coupled with not wanting him to be with the woman who broke up her marriage...a good Pam long/Nancy Cutler twist).

The Doctors Discussion Thread
Based on what I've read...marland was not a good fit for the Doctors..with beefing up the aldriches and Darcy family..with few, if any, ties with hope memorial. The show is called The Doctors. Oddly his tinkering with GH worked...but it doesn't seem to have worked with the Doctors.

I like that now we are getting dates with writers taking over. According to Rita lakin...she wad the only writer hence why she had a writing partner for a year before she bailed. I'm guessing cenderella is helping with script writing as well as story outlines.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I so admit I liked Jill even in her more messy final days. It was interrsting how to the other women and to bobby/allie that she was top dog....but when she had scenes with her and sister...she let them take the lead...especially her sister. I'd like her to visit again..even if just in scenes with just dorinda and/or Luann. Dorit seems to have issues with time and how to tell time. Teddi seems too nice and sensitive for this show...thus far. Camille and TH's are a match made in heaven....camille will make mince meat of dorit. Rinna Rinna... her daughters arent gigi and bella, ahe hasnt done any acting mich (except a guest slot on the middle where she was charming..and days of our lives..ehivh I hope means we get some scenes of Rinna there).. So I guess being the truth boomb is her only.hope to keep a diamond.

I am curious the factors that determine who gets to be a housewife and who gets to be supporting? Is it the same on all the franchise's, or does it vary based on the show? For instance, I've always believed if you couldn't film all aspects of your life (by choice, or due to an ex)..that should automatically make you a friend of..no matter how much drama you bring. So t amra on OC and Brandi on BH shouldn't habe been full time housewives for that reason..especially Brandi (who never brought anything to the table except conflict...and Rinna kind of does that well in a more frustrating way lol). Cynthia keeps her peach because every show needs a 'boring' one...and she brings it fashion and hair wise. With that said, Kim should have done what Sheree did during her driend of season...been the Greek chorus and not make too many waves...cause she got her peach back the next season. Jim had to be careful..her spinoff won't last forever...and if she pissed off Nene, Kandi, and kenya...good luck getting that peach back.

When Bethenny visited BH...did she and Camille interact? That would have been interesting to see because Camille usually keeps her cool and can shade with backhanded ability like no one else...and make Bethenny look like a lunatic. Yet Bethenny can jab throw a mile a second.

Instead of having Johnny Bauer as a 3rd cousin...why not have had him descended from Trudy bauer..and had Mary Stuart in the 80s be Trudy Bauer? The character was on in the 50s and lived in New York...so i could habe seen Mary Stuart playing Trudy as more east coast, yet warm and in your face... and her branch could have been bought on as well. Still I loved Meta being on in the late 90s...and I liked how she took over for Ed in trying to steer Blake in the right direction. I kind of liked that the show ended with Frank and Blake dating since the two had ties since the early 90s as friends.

The one thing I like about how the show wrote Rita was that she w asnt evil, or osycho...but basically her own worst enemy. Her insecurity caused her marriage to Ed to go south. I liked that when MG quit as holly...marland had holly leave in late 1980 cause she knew she was causing problems for ed/rita...but it was written in a way that Rita felt ed blamed her for holly leaving...and pulled away from Ed to Alan. I thought Gus should have been Rita's child...eith the question if he was a Brauer or Spaulding the main story. With that said, how she interacted with her sister Eve showed how Rita could be when she felt secure because she knew her sister loved her no mastter what..so she didn't end up doing the self fulfilling prophecy that she did with Ed. I did like how Pam Long and Nancy Curlee picked up the holly/ed connection with Maureen feeling insecure...history is valuable and can be used for great stories.

With BH...almost none of the women are funny...except L VP. Kyle and Rinna think they're funny....but Kyle is only funny as a comic duo with L VP. NY Is full of funny housewives except maybe Tinsley. OC had Vicki that you laugh at, t amra occasionally is funny, and early Shannon (which I hope we get back noe that she's unloaded that noose around the neck) was quirky and had fun stories. Humor is key on these shows....dallas had some funny cast mates.

"The Conners" Discussion Thread
The county that the show originally took place in (Fulton County, Illinois) was democratic in their voting, especially for president until the 2016 election where over 60 percent voted for Trump for president... given the blue collar nature of the show.. it makes sense to have them vote for Trump over Hilary.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I'm thinking a positive of a shorter season is that pointless feuds will be stretched so long. Just think of how cancergate in season 10 of OC woudln't have felt so stretched out if the season had ended after 12 episodes instead of 19? Siggy needs meds and man, I hope her son moves and never gives her his address. She makes Vicki G on RHOC seem sane in terms of hovering.. and I never thought I'd say that.

Agree on the NY cast changes...didnt like how they didn't gradually introduce the newbies in season 5. OC purged 3 after season 8...and gradually introduced both Shannon and lizzie...gave that show a new lease. Praying lucky 13 will fix things. R HOBH...Dorit reminds me of Taylor.

Maggie wouldn't have become the maternal, martiach....and Matt and Maggie's relationship would have remained equal instead of devolving into a traditional husband/wife relationship. As we start April 1975...im seeing the next crop of characters are coming in...Andy and Stacy. Too much focus on Andy and singing...when his intro shpuould have been more gradual. Stacy's has been a little better...tying her to steve/carolee.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
9 1/2 weeks would have been a good template for a story on santa Barbara... usually the dominant one in an s and m relationship is dominant in their day to day life...and vice versa. But that sometimes they can get out of hand. Based on my personal.experience, plus studying the concept in school...keith and Gina wouldn't be a good candidate for it...and the show would turn it into a joke instead of doing an in-depth study of it. I don't know of a character where that would have worked on....maybe Angela Raymond (came on in 1991).

I couldn't get behind Holly and Roger especially when I found out he had raped her. To me..even putting them back together as a couple in the 90s was just wrong. So I was with Mctravish in regards to breaking them up....i just didn't like throwing Holly with Fletcher and turning Roger into a dark character when Pam long/Curlee spent years redeeming him. It is a shame Michelle Forbes quit because roger/sonni were an interesting pairing...and her verbal spats with Blake were well done. I do like that the show ended with Ed/Holly getting together...when holly had become confident without a man...and he came to her, not the other way around. It was done quickly, but made sense to me.

Agree... I thought the show realized a lot of that potential. The twist of her having Iris' grandchild was genius given the fact that her dad Russ had been engaged to Iris back in the 70s. A shame the actress left and the character ceased to exist.

I actually liked how she wrote Olivia.. but I do think the ball was dropped with Josie being Russ' daughter.. and basically writing off Josie and Russ months after the fact. With Olivia... I liked how Donna S kind of wrote the Sam/Olivia/Amanda triangle... with Olivia as the Rachel, Amanda as the Alice.. with Sam as the Steve....shame that Sam had two bad recasts.. but I liked the irony that the Rachel/Alice feud had moved to the next generation... but sadly without more visits from Alice.. it didn't live up to it's potential.

Didn't the actress that play Leslie opt to leave the show? In a way, it was probably smarter to kill her off then risk a bad recast (ala Jackie Marler a few years later). Just from the episodes I watched in 1980 (on youtube, plus some friends had copies of other episodes).. it looked as if Ed/Holly was being slated by Marland as the Bauer tentpole/end game couple.
