  1. Do you think the show lost the idea of Mac being from wealth due to Douglass Watson's take on the character? It seemed like the initial take on Mac, pre-recast, had this as more prominent. Mac certainly was comfortably rich and held on to what he had for dear life, but it feels like the show chose to focus on wealthy trappings more with others in his life like Iris and even Rachel (resorting to bribery to get rid of Blaine).
  2. @Huntress Is Deniz still on AWZ? Does he do anything?
  3. I've also seen a number of Nina fans who are upset over the whole thing because Drew threatened her with violence not that long ago. I get that, I suppose, but this is a show with many, many years of history with abusive men being treated as hot pieces of ass, so it's hard to be surprised.
  4. Thanks as always @Huntress
  5. It's not always just men who equivocate - I posted a clip a month or two back with Mara Liasson from NPR going on about how if Trump called for a 16 week ban, he would be a normal politician because that's in line with the public view. She spun it in a positive way for Trump, because that's what the press wants. One of the reasons these ploys go on and on is because they are able to drag many different faces of the Beltway in. Stop Pretending Trump Is a Savvy Politician | The New Republic The reason I posted the articles was to show the media doing all this again and how easily they are swayed, not to say oh women are going to be fooled - I even said in my first post I thought most people who voted for Trump were going to do so anyway not because he convinced them about abortion. My point was that these cynical games will drive up a lot of the usual media takes and support from certain quarters that have an interest in pushing votes toward him and away from Democrats, like many on the far left. I'm not going to put my faith in anyone, whether it be the press or a section of voters, because there are too many moving pieces and this country has burned us all too many times before. I'm going to hope for the best, but that's about all I can do. If you take that as doubting women, then there's nothing I can do about it I guess, other than suggest you put me on ignore.
  6. Another example of what I was talking about:
  7. It's the usual awkward positioning - you either praise his savvy or you play in and wink and nod that maybe THIS time, he means it. Various journalists or authors will pop up to play along. I'd like to believe no one falls for this, but I am always wary, especially with the media and culture we have. I certainly hope you are right. After hearing many say the same to me in 2016 (and yes, I know that was pre-Roe falling) I will just never be sure again. In RFK news: A piece on all the angst and equivocating of a few female voters in Bucks County and how they are "RFK-curious" - another part of the plan to try to get those who voted for Biden but aren't sure about doing so again to find an offramp. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2024/04/biden-trump-kennedy-voters/677988/ And here is one of his campaign people, who was apparently at J6...
  8. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/04/08/trump-says-abortion-is-up-to-the-states-declines-to-endorse-national-limit-00151022 Get ready for all the backflips from the "liberal" media about how smart and brave and savvy Trump is, along with the dead end leftists praising him and saying he is more progressive on choice than Biden and the Democrats. (I don't really think it will change minds one way or the other - if voters who care about these rights vote for Trump then they are going to find a reason anyway. I'm still disgusted [if not surprised] by his shamelessness and how I know so many, many, many people in the Beltway and supposed progressives will eat out of his hand)
  9. The laziest were often from NBC themselves. They never got that Friends was a success because of the cast (and I didn't even like most of the cast). Remember ABC's Townies, which was also meant to be a comeback for Molly Ringwald?
  10. Another example of why Biden would probably be better off writing off Dearborn if this and the "abandon Biden" movement are what dominate their choices:
  11. Speaking of Turn-On, it's as good a time as ever to mention that George Schlatter had not only the first episode put on Youtube, but also the unaired second episode (with France Nuyen and Robert Culp), and a third patched together from unused footage. Clown Jewels - YouTube
  12. Thanks again for the articles. Still such a stupid decision from Spelling - I suppose he was from the old school where that practice was common.
  13. Thanks. It was driving me a bit nuts. I had forgotten she got on Melrose after what happened with Hunter. I guess being on Melrose ended up being the better decision.
  14. I think Lillian and Buzz had been together for a year or two before the show ended. I don't disagree about happy endings that feel unearned, but I didn't really mind them on GL, maybe because I'd already seen so much misery on the show over the years. With that said, one of the few things I will praise the ATWT ending for was not reuniting Lily and Holden. I had forgotten Martha was considered for Marah. She would have been dull as hell in whatever role she had, I'm sure. For me Rachel Miner was still Michelle, although Bethany was the best after her.
  15. I was watching this pilot for Leaving LA, which starred Chris Meloni and Melina Kanakaredes. The leading lady in this is NOT Melina, but I can't quite figure out who she is. I want to say Lisa Rinna, but I am not sure the dates work out as Lisa started on Melrose in fall 1996. Still, she could have filmed this pilot before then, I suppose. Yet at other moments I don't think it's her. If any of you know who she is, please tell me.
  16. I always liked Ed Fry on ATWT, and he was a very handsome man, but to be honest I never found him attractive in that way. I actually found Robert Lupone to be more attractive, even though I only ever knew him as Roger's heel on GL. He had charisma, which Ed did not. This suited Ed more with the role he had on ATWT, where he was second choice to Frannie and then paired with Susan, who was much older and had been with much worse men so was happy for the change. Ed didn't really need it, I suppose, as Adam was such a straight arrow, but it does make Adam less compelling, along with the ugly, misogynist writing given to MJ. All you have to do is compare Adam to Ryan Hudson, a similar character, but played by a much more charismatic actor. On paper, a complex figure like Neal should have fit into AW, but that was a terrible time to deal with complexity or bring in new characters. @Xanthe I would have loved hearing Agnes' thoughts on AW in the early '80s...
  17. @jam6242 Thanks so much for finding all that. I certainly never knew the actors who played Karl and Robin at that time were dating. I don't even see GL listed in Richard Morse's IMDB (if he's still alive maybe someone could interview him about his time on GL, if he's able...that does seem like a recent photo so who knows). The plot recap is nice to see as well. I agree that is Sterling, probably just in a different role. I wonder why the show was never tempted to start Robin/Mike again. Maybe they would have been if she hadn't been killed off. @soapfan770 I agree about the diversity. GL in the '60s did have a few black performers, so not far off B&B today...
  18. I had forgotten her name last night but that Michelle would have been Beth Ann Bonner. I agree that Michael O'Leary suited Krista much more than Kim. It was odd to imagine that she was meant to be in love with Rick.
  19. They did give him a bit with Mindy but I can't remember if he was on contract by the end. If the show hadn't been canceled they were going to bring in a recast Michelle. Instead, they just had that actress play a guest role and brought Nancy St. Alban (zzzz) back a few times. I think the end of the show had Michelle and Danny moving back to Springfield.
  20. Brooke had returned for AMC"s last year.
  21. Those would have been great ideas. If only they'd tried. I'm still surprised Ken Norris was briefly brought back.
  22. You're right, there's no real way it could be George - I do wonder if it's the same actor or maybe he just looks similar to me. I wonder why the show decided to get rid of Johnny (although if they hadn't we never would have had Roger Thorpe, probably).
  23. I guess it might have been mentioned in one of the soap magazines at the time, but if so I forgot about it - did Bernard Grant leave GL to go to OLTL as Steve Burke, or was he just written out of GL?
