  1. Other than Lily/Cane and Sprina I can't even remember that many which had fan push, although I am probably forgetting one or two. And a lot of the support for the former seemed to go with how involved Goddard was with his fan base. In the case of GH, there was a long history, until Sprina, of black women being pushed aside by the show and most fans not caring. I saw it happen with Keesha. I wasn't a huge fan of Keesha's, but she worked well with all her leading men and still got paid dust. The same happened with Gia, although I never had any interest in Gia, I have to admit.
  2. That's wonderful. Never thought Gloria would be asked back and I'm glad she was able to return. I wonder if we might get a mention of Neil Curtis. When was he last mentioned?
  3. Thanks so much for all you did answer. This period is so underrepresented so it's always nice to hear more of the perspective of the time.
  4. Thanks so much for answering my questions. These years of the show seem to have so many psychologically complex relationships, even if I'm not sure that was intended in the writing or just the result of intermarrying a small canvas. It does seem like they changed Robin to noticeably older by the time Gillian Spencer is in the part. Did you enjoy her work as Robin? Do you know if that was Philip Sterling as the lawyer? George is listed as arriving in Springfield in 1962 so I guess it wouldn't have been that character (even though he was also a lawyer)?
  5. Was that the picture on Easter/April Fool's? I know some think that was just a joke.
  6. It's one of the main reasons we come here to talk and speculate. The thought of what might be. We could just say everything on ATWT was great, the show is gone, and all just stop posting, I guess.
  7. The story about the budget cuts at TVNZ do make me wonder. I also wonder if this is why Chris is gone, along with TK last year. More of the show is focusing on new (and in some cases very bland) characters. I am happy Boyd is back, he's one of my favorite characters, but I'm worried he is back to be killed off.
  8. Thanks. Good eye! The date on the video says August 30, 1960. I think this is Kellogg based on the Soapcentral dates, but someone else might know better.
  9. I wonder at times if Bert took over Meta's personality after Meta was written out. Either that or her old self fit more with Lyle Sudrow's Bill - Ed Bryce's Bill seems a little more "off" even here. I also had questions. Was that Philip Sterling as the lawyer? I couldn't tell. I know his character George was a lawyer but I didn't think he'd arrived yet. I wonder who some of the other guest characters were. I had forgotten while watching this that Paul would go on to marry Robin only a few years later. Was their age difference a big part of the story? It's a shame characters like Paul or Johnny weren't ever used for Peggy in later years. There are a lot of interesting '60s characters they could have done more with.
  10. A 1960 episode! I know there are a few kinescopes around I've seen from the early '60s or very late '50s that aren't up but I THINK this one might be entirely new (to me anyway)? 11. Truly pathetic from Axios.
  12. It just came out earlier today, as someone kindly mentioned in the obit thread. I didn't know he had aphasia either. A wonderful talent.
  13. Honestly I'd say the show was even more biased in Jason's favor when AJ was there. They are never going to let anyone score points against Jason.
  14. I love that we lived in a time when you could flip channels between Murder She Wrote and House of Buggin.
  15. Michael Gross is asked about Family Ties being moved against MSW. (his interview starts about 5 minutes in)
  16. This is at a black conservative group by Byron Donalds, who might be Trump's VP (if you look at his record you'll see how much they have in common). Rarely have Trump's reasons for running, and the bigotry that has fueled so much of his life, been on such plain display. Luckily for him the media will ignore and fawn.
  17. RIP Christopher Durang (he's 11 minutes in this).
  18. Durang also appeared on the premiere of SNL's 12th season, when Lorne was trying to take the show in a classier direction. He was in the first Church Lady sketch and later sang a Brecht and Wagner medley with Sigourney Weaver in the last piece of the night. I still think sometimes about them singing Oklahoma in German. He was briefly on Ryan's Hope. I'll put that in the RH thread. Thank you for telling us. Feels like we've lost a lot of people the last few days.
  19. Sorry, not sure if this promo was already around. I just saw it now.
  20. Thanks @slick jones . I had forgotten Cindi passed this year.
  21. Balance of Terror is one of the more moving Star Trek episodes.
  22. @jam6242 Thanks for letting us know. Sorry to hear about Lynn. I had no idea she was involved in the Heat of the Night TV version (which I do think was a genuinely good show for a while). I'm glad a few episodes of Lynn's Search run are available. She seems like a very competent, likeable actress, with a real presence. I can see why they never really found someone else to fit the part.
  23. Days of the Week was one of the very very very few soap parodies, along with Acorn Antiques, that rings true to me (Victoria Wood was also a soap fan). SNL tried soap parodies for many years, but there were only a handful that ever worked (two of which were guided by Susan Lucci). Anyway, I just loved watching Joe. He was a hilarious man. SCTV was a brutal show, especially in the earliest years (one sketch had John Candy beating his wife [Catherine O'Hara] with a can of dog food), but it was easy to overlook because of the warmth of the cast. Few were warmer than Joe. You could take those tough parodies and jabs because you could tell he was a good man. There were so many hilarious moments, but my favorite was probably whenever anchorman Floyd had to react to the stupidity and narcissism of his co-anchor, Earl (Eugene Levy). The slow burn and blow-up got me every time. Other than In Living Color's first few years, no sketch show made me laugh the way SCTV did, and Joe was a huge part of that.
