  1. Not to go too off topic but Shortland Street made this same choice with their leading man of 20 years, TK Samuels. Even worse, because not only was he paralyzed, but his final scene was him trying to stand up to make an inspirational speech, only to fall to the floor. Any time he's mentioned by his relatives it is just to say how much he is struggling and how unhappy he is. Back to John, I remember thinking they wanted rid of him around 2007 too. Or at least Sheffer had no use for him. Wasn't he in a coma for a while after EJ shot him?
  2. Jill Dalton, an NYC actress, talks about a bit part she had on AMC.
  3. Thank you @will81 for pointing out this video to me. Jill Dalton, an NYC actress, talks about a minor DA role she had on the show in 1994 and how it was going to lead to more if not for the OJ trial. The character according to this is named Alysse Brenner. @slick jones @mikeaw1978 She also talks about some roles on Edge of Night and AMC. I will post the AMC video in its thread (she doesn't say enough about EON to warrant posting it there).
  4. True. It was just the quickest for me to find. The birthday party - was that true?
  5. Thanks @Paul Raven A very interesting article. I guess this must be her first book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50768855-tormented
  6. From Soapcentral (I did not realize Karen was meant to be a teenager when she arrived on the show...that makes her relationship with John even odder): On her first day in Oakdale, Karen was looking for work and not having much success. She stopped in front of a store that seemed to be already closed, Fashions, Ltd., The door was open, but nobody seemed to answer when she called out. Karen then found a young man, passed out. Karen immediately called for help and him got to Memorial's ER in the nick of time where the angel dust was gotten out of his system. The man, Eric Hollister, though did end up in a coma for several weeks. During this time Karen celebrated her 18th birthday, but instead of a huge celebration, Karen opted to be a nurse to Eric during the time he was unconscious. When Eric finally, awoke, everyone erroneously assumed that he was a drug addict because of his overdose. The only person who stood by Eric through all of this was Karen. Eric found comfort in Karen's willing arms and they temporarily became lovers and moved in together. However, when Karen started to realize that Eric's heart belonged to Hayley, she released him from any obligations and told him their love affair was over.
  7. Thanks. From what you've said Shen likely tried his best with a lot of lukewarm material.
  8. Thanks for the extra info.
  9. Trump's America... The amount of people who are eating up every word whipping up grand conspiracy theories about federal aid is another of those moments where I am reminded how broken this country is. Trump losing, if he loses (big if...), will be a start, but there is so far to go.
  10. An early indication of how Swajeski would never know what to do with Michael. I really hated the character by the time the Soapnet repeats ended (mid '91 or so). The Iris/Michael pairing would have made more sense to revisit than having him with Stacey, which made her look awful.
  11. I am not much of a Liz fan myself (although I've come to appreciate Herbst over the years after how they repeatedly tried to railroad her off the show) but I think a lot of the response is people who enjoy the chemistry between the two RHs after years of awful pairings where she had to just prop up the guy she was with. And another part is people who just don't like Lucky whether due to how he treated her or because they want her with Jason. I don't see a lot of ride-or-die "LiRic" in of itself after the way their relationship ended up. I mostly stopped watching around the period he was trying to sexually assault Michael. I don't know if he improved after that. Did people enjoy the baby switch story he was in?
  12. You had me at Carolyn Hinsey... The only reason [!@#$%^&*]-ass Hayley and Mateo are on that list is their TV show.
  13. Thanks. That was fun. Seth being labeled "the good guy" reminds me of what a heel he originally was and how quickly he just became a nobody. I can't even remember his exit.
  14. @Soapsuds Thanks for sharing the episodes. The November 1984 episode is up in full on Oakdalian's channel, but the one you posted has a commercial break and that's always fun to see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w-mZ5J8s94&t=81s
  15. Thanks. I was so tired I didn't even bother to check the end.
  16. @mikeaw1978 @slick jones An actor named Petrus Antonius identified himself as being in this clip (I assume from late 1988?) with Iris and Michael.
  17. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/03/election-fire-union-trump-harris This union has endorsed every Democrat for years, aside from Hillary and now Kamala Harris. I've seen some of the dead end left talking about how everyone will look back at the optics of her losing this endorsement the same day she campaigns with Liz Cheney. I wouldn't have campaigned with Liz Cheney either, but she could have marched up and down the street with Bernie for 4 years and never gotten their endorsement. There are many tied to the party who may want to shift further away from unions given these leaders (and the dockworker strike yesterday led by a guy who has years of history with Trump). They aren't being given a lot of reason to feel otherwise, even as many members try to fight what these organizations have become. I see that Politico is trying to stir the pot over Tim Walz's Tiananmen Square comments, claiming that Harris' people didn't know about his misstatements on various topics. Given how very cautious her team has been, I can actually believe this, but I'm not sure how much different it would have made as I'm not one of the people who believe Josh Shapiro would have sealed the deal.
  18. Thanks @Vee I'd never seen those. I don't want to link to whatever AV Club is these days so hopefully people can read this even if they aren't on Twitter:
  19. Some personal news Elon Musk followed me on X a couple years ago and has shared my work and been willing to respond to DMs about stories from time to time, including a back and forth we had for a story on the Secret Service last week. Earlier this week, when I respectfully approached him via DM about his Sunday claim that Biden-Harris was ‘fast-tracking’ illegal immigrants to vote and provided information showing that confirmed it was not the case, Mr. Musk unfollowed me and blocked me from DMing him and said asking him for comment for a story via DM was inappropriate — despite him being willing to engage in the past. We did reach out to one of his companies, but did not receive a response. Below is a link to our fact check on Mr. Musk's claims that Biden-Harris are flying migrants into the US and expeditiously granting them citizenship. Buried lede: It's absolutely false though we were unable to reach Mr. Musk for comment.
  20. Some of the current writers truly do seem to put keeping some of their favorite characters, in spite of a laundry list of horrible actions, above any coherency. I would write Ava out, but then I'd also write Sonny and Carly out, so I can understand why Ava might exist as a counterweight to them. I have no idea why Heather is there. Zero. Alley Mills may be a wonderful person. Various writers may love the Wonder Years. They may love Doctor Quinn (RIP Orson Bean). Either way, the character needs to go. When I peruse Twitter I notice a lot of the Liz fans also prefer her with Ric (or want a new man for her). She and JJ definitely had strong chemistry in the old days, but Guza truly salted the earth of that pairing on JJ's return.
  21. To be honest I'd rather they just go with Sonny doing whatever the hell he wants than blaming meds. The show already exploits his mental illness so much as it is.
  22. Another Mary Frann ad. I know she had brown hair earlier in her career but I do wonder if this is a wig.
