The Politics Thread
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/dead-heat-trump-pulls-even-harris-nbc-news-poll-rcna174201 It's just one poll but it also feels like what seemed inevitable to me with negative opinion of Harris starting to build and the same younger voters who are so apathetic or so often end up believing the lies about Democrats falling into line. I'm just astonished, even as I shouldn't be, at how Trump's approval numbers are so high even as he is so decrepit and openly bigoted. Yes, it is just one poll, or a few polls, but this and some of the early voting results so far, etc. seem to suggest how much he has brought out the worst of this country's attitudes and instincts to shape his rotted insides.

I love that idea (as long as he isn't a circus clown).

Thanks. Those are great ideas. I agree the McLearys don't seem like a natural fit to the show, even if they have their moments. SFT probably came to a natural end, but I enjoy hearing fans talk about what could have been.

GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread
Was there any boost when he came back in 2010? I think most of the people who were interested probably had their fill around that point, although maybe some of those viewers who quit since his last return might have come back. You're right they should have done a better job, but they didn't with Jason, and I am not sure of the last time they did with a return.

GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread
That's true (the closest they came was trying to get new people in for pairings like Sprina and we see how happy Frank and co were about that). I suppose what I meant was I think most of the viewers who watched for whatever the show is half-heartedly trying to go back to left a long time ago.

Thanks. I didn't realize Frank was 30 when he started on GL.

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
Which parts have you enjoyed most? There are definitely elements I've enjoyed, especially with some of the B-characters like Byron, Harold, the Rodwell-Murphys, and some of the guest characters like Felix and Victor. It's just that everything with Haz, Toadie, Terese and Paul has tended to cast a long shadow over the rest for me, that and just very odd choices (like Holly's hostage loop and telling a story about Wendy being harassed entirely offcamera).

IMDB has her in a December 11th episode so I guess she must have been a recurring character. If the show had somehow gotten renewed again, what would you have done with the canvas they had at the time?

GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread
I don't think that Liasion stans are representative of the fan view, but I think the fans of JJ Lucky will be limited in present day because they are, for the most part, just not tied to what GH has been over the last 20 years. That show is never coming back, and neither is the family unit that made him so loved. They might be able to readjust, or at the very least have better material for him than he got when he was on in 2011, but I don't think today's GH cares about telling stories with him that could help make more current viewers feel invested. I think Frank only brought him back because he had no choice.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I think Frank had good chemistry with some ladies early on. He clicked with Sherry Stringfield and Melina. I thought he and Jennifer Roszell were OK too considering they were never written for. And the Julie story made sense to me as he was the only one who was kind to her. Once the show lost interest in the character and clearly weren't writing for any of his relationships I would agree the chemistry wasn't there. I am still confused when I hear that he and Buzz both dated Olivia. I think of how Michael O'Leary would joke about Rick being in love with Philip and of a scene when Philip and Beth were leaving where Rick tore up a stuffed animal. Clearly the show was never going there, and I don't think they had any reason to, but the show definitely could have done much more with the relationship than they did in later years. Even stories that should have had more of a pop, like Rick having a child with Harley or Rick's involvement in Philip's "death," didn't seem to go anywhere.

GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread
If they wanted him to genuinely go mad and this led to his exit, I might have been more interested, but I think they were just going to have it all end in "poor Sonny" and Ava six feet under. I think the idea of what you are saying with Heather would have been interesting, but I didn't think the story was trying to go that way (the only character even then who was allowed to object for more than a few minutes was Portia). Mulcahey may have tried more with Lucky and what he missed, but if Jason's return is any indication, I am not sure. I think Lucky was just gone too long and Liz's kids are not important enough to the show for the story we might have had.

The Politics Thread
The polls this year have been very odd. I don't know if I believe Harris would win PA by that much or lose AZ by that much. And the WSJ had a poll out yesterday or the day before claiming Harris would lose Nevada by 6 points (while having her winning Georgia and mostly breaking even elsewhere).

AMC: Lifetime TV Movie Franchise Announced
By the time Soapnet ended they were showing "reality" shows like Southern Belles or whatever the hell that was called. I think the real gift to AW was it managed to stay on for twenty years in spite of crashing so hard at the end of the '70s. I know I'd watch AW movies and I still wish it was around today, but it wasn't a show that after said '70s ever had the same name in the public eye as AMC had.

Doctor Who
Glad to hear they may be getting another series as it seems like that is very up in the air. I also saw that he didn't play into Graham Norton's usual sneering about fans.

Thanks for that. I appreciate it. I did see this, which will hopefully be a balance to whatever may be going on in Virginia or other states.- The Media/Journalism Thread
I'm mostly surprised Luntz even admitted his mistake. Someone said Thompson just took that literally from an RNC clip. Weigel definitely has a rightward frame which he is less and less interested in hiding and is very defensive of media criticism (he was chiding people who pointed out the NYT headline defending Trump's support of eugenics).- Neighbours: Discussion Thread
I hope not, but at least we have time to mentally prepare I suppose. At times I've wondered how many at the show were shocked to get a reprieve as it often feels to me like the writing isn't what it should be for this second chance.- The Politics Thread
I've seen some mention here of early voting numbers, which I appreciate. I was wondering if there's more for various states as the few bits I've seen are from Republican accounts (like some that claim how bad the numbers are getting in Virginia for Democrats).- Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
Thanks for the photos @Paul Raven These episodes were already on Youtube but the quality here is a bit better and there are some commercials.- The Media/Journalism Thread
I understand why Harris needs to work with Charlamagne given his influence and the huge backers he has in the media establishment, but similar to what happened with the 60 Minutes interview, I feel like this may be a setup.- Soap Vet Nicholas Pryor Dies
