Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
That was great! So wonderful! It's unfortunate that that one uploader stopped putting the early episodes on YouTube because it would be the perfect thing to watch with Take the High Road. I wish there was a way to buy the DVDs for North American TVs. It really sucks that the show got so far away from its roots. The idea of having a tight, tight focus on one family for 40 years is just exciting to me, and to think of how complex and intricate the family relationships could be...

Oh, and here I was convinced by Gaga stans that Femme Fatale was the worst album ever.

Love of Life Discussion Thread
Everything I've read over the years says that opening was used from 1960 until the show's transition to color in 1967. I really had no clue Rick was on this early. I only know him from his appearance in that 1975 episode that was on YT years ago (that I watched on dial-up because I wanted so badly to see it). It's great to finally have something from the little transitional period the show went through in the late 50s/early 60s.

The Lady Gaga Thread
IDK, it doesn't always have to be all about the music. If Adele is all about the music and letting it speak for itself, that's great. Gaga is a different type of artist, though, and a huge part of her package is the bizarreness of her performances. The performance is probably even a bigger part than the actual music, and I don't have a problem with that because it's what she chooses to do with her career. My issue lies more with the overzealous fans, which I know I'm repeating, but jeez. The crazy fans (key word: crazy) are so defensive of everything she says and does because they've foreclosed on their own identities to the point of her being them, and so an unfavorable opinion of Gaga is interpreted as an unfavorable opinion on themselves.

I really dislike that song. "I am my hair?" Really? REALLY? Girl, no. Sing about how you don't have define yourself by physical objects that can be taken away from you in the first place. And the chorus sounds like Edge of Glory.

BTW the album is boring as hell. The songs either have some weird religious subtext or just continue to push the Glee-like notion that people who are different can be obnoxious assholes and get away with it.

40% of the first week's sold copies went for 99 cents lol Besides, it's not her that I want to bitchslap, it's the overzealous fans (no one here) who have this bizarre belief that the singles from BTW have all been monster hits. Even the title track, despite sitting on the top of the Hot 100 for six weeks, is old news now.

I've been rocking out to too much tween pop lately, but I really don't care.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Random returns like this always make me cringe a little, but I'm looking forward to it. Ultimately, I think it's cool to bring back long-ago characters to sort of start them off fresh, make them relevant to the current canvas, and establish new connections. Especially with the UK soaps, whose location-centrism makes it easy for any old character to return after god knows how many years.

Thanks for all of your stuff, Carl. I feel like I don't say that enough. Whoa, Ellen #1 looks like Andrea Evans! Oh, how I wish we could see some 50s ATWT. It's hard to picture the show without Lisa and Don Hastings, but I'm very interested in the stories that propelled it to #1 as well as how they found their footing with the 30-minute format. Not to mention Ruth Warrick as Edith. Anne Burr (Claire) sort of looks like Peyton Place-era Ruth in the top pic.

Billy and Julie as grandparents is kind of creepy, but I'm glad they'll have something bigger to deal with, and hopefully it develops Julie more. I've been loving her since day one, but it's time to really get down to business with her.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I'm partial to early 70s Corrie myself. Annie, Bet, and Betty (sometimes Billy) running the Rovers, Maggie running the Corner Shop, Rita and Mavis later coming on with the Kabin...Len, Jerry, and Ray with their activities, early Deirdre (and Blanche), Emily/Ernest, the Ogdens at their finest, etc.

Still obsessing over these four. I need them in my life...now.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The thought of the possibility of those '73 episodes hanging out somewhere gets me excited. Some day! I think I reading something about how when the big Stewart write-out was done, Dan took the girls out of Oakdale (to London, I think), and Susan, realizing that she was completely and utterly alone, decided to leave too. There was a supposedly very spectacular scene of Susan, alone in her living room, completely surrounded by the silence and loneliness.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
That's a cute interview! It's great to see Nina's reputation as one of the show's leading females get bigger and better. That's not something to be proud of! If it was Tennant, though...- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Loved that 1972 episode. It had been posted on WoST years ago, and the opening had been on YouTube for a while, but I knew sooner or later we'd get to see the whole thing there. The long pauses, the tight close ups, the agony, the pain, the drama! That's the epitome of 70s soap to me, and I need more!! The only shame is that we'll probably never see these episodes in their full color glory.- Another World Discussion Thread

I've been loving the last few episodes. The Masood drama is on point, as well as Fatboy/Mercy. Fatboy is one of the best characters currently on the show, and I hope they do right by him after they rip his love interest away. One of the dumbest decisions of 2011 so far. They made a gorgeous couple in their wedding attire. Christian annoys me still because he's so overzealous about everything. He jumped into the baby thing with Roxy, he jumped into the adoption thing, he's jumping into this marriage thing, he jumped into telling people about the adoption, etc. I've never really hated him and Syed, but they are indeed more tolerable now than they used to be, especially since their story isn't just about them. I'm fine with being in the minority that loves Tamwar and Afia, especially Afia, who is one of my favorite newer characters on any soap, UK or US. I keep waiting for Masood to have a heart-to-heart with someone like Zainab had with Syed, but I'm wondering who it would even be with. He's not going to confide in Syed or Tamwar, but then is he the type to confide in anyone about his problems? He thinks he has it under control, that all he has to do is get Yusef out of the picture, but eh. He's gonna mess up some more, but hopefully not too much. Lydia is HILARIOUS! "All the better for spoiling you with my dear!" had me cracking up for days. I'm gonna miss her when she goes because her interactions with Ricky, Janine, and Pat have been great.- What Are You Listening To?

I know many Emmerdale diehards hated the previous theme, but I never had a problem with it. Sure, it was a little overblown, but this one here just tries too hard. The pausing, the weird chords, the cymbal crashes, etc. Too much.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
New titles with an absolutely dreadful/aimless/weird new arrangement of the theme. The visuals are basically the Emmerdale version of the Corrie titles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wU0zVPxM_U
