Frank Valentini, Executive Producer, General Hospital

As the soap turned 63 on Wednesday, April 1, “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini took to social media to thank the fans for tuning in after all these years, while also teasing “big plans” for the show looking ahead.

“I would like to take a moment and thank all of the fans who have helped @GeneralHos2pital reach its 63rd Anniversary,” commented Valentini on X (formerly Twitter). “Today is a very special day and celebrating it with all of you means the world to us. We have big plans going into this new season. Stay tuned.”

While not giving any specific details away in his message, the daytime drama series has a few storylines winding up to whet the appetite of its viewers, including the return of Nathan Dean (formerly Parsons) as Ethan Lovett this month, the reveal that Nathan West is actually Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey), how Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) will deal with Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) killing his boyfriend, Marco, and how the city will rally in support of a traumatized Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr), plus the multi-episode story arc featuring “Aladdin” on Broadway star Michael James Scott, among numerous other storylines.

Valentini has been executive producer of “General Hospital” since 2012, making him the longest-serving EP in the show’s history, surpassing James Young, at 14 years. He previously served in the same capacity at “One Life to Live.”

Under his guidance, the long-running soap opera has earned seven Emmy Awards for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, five of which were consecutively, including the show’s win in 2025.

I wish those "big plans" included a major cast exodus.

The show needs a "recalibration."

It's still waaaaaay better than Y&R, B&B, and DAYS these days though.

That's not saying much, though. The quality of those three are extremely low bars to clear.

As much as I've been enjoying catching up, I do see the wacka wackas are trying to creep in again. And I also see how much of it I have started to put on MUTE. But I already knew who the show was going to focus on couple-wise (read: not the ones they should) when the year started. Not shocked.

They did nothing to celebrate their anniversary this year.

Too bad the big plans don't include firing all the producers.

There were 3 tributes for Tony Geary and nothing yet for Tristain Rogers.

Shame on GH.

I think off camera stuff has impacted plans for Tristan. Finola is off the show, they would want her and Kimberly there. Plus Luke was already dead onscreen, making tributes easier to do as stand alone specials.

I have plenty of complaints about FV, but this team has consistently honored folks that passed away, even if they were not on the show for a very long time like Lee and Gail.

I noticed that and found it odd. Frank always seems to notice for the most part.

Exactly. I absolutely do not believe GH is making any choice to not honor Tristan let alone Denise Alexander.

As posted above, the character of Luke had already died while Tony Geary was still alive, and they had already had a memorial service for Luke back then. So the Tony Geary tribute was easier to write in.

One tribute for Tony Geary was a few seconds of his old scenes added onto the end of an episode (with a couple of actors voicing over) -- it was literally a few seconds.

One tribute was a rerun of Geary's final episode in Port Charles (not counting his scene in Europe with Tracy). A rerun they simply had to air, but not prepare.

The full newly-created tribute for Geary was a standalone episode inserted, written as Alexa Havins' Lulu honoring her dad who had died while she was in a coma. Being an inserted standalone, they didn't have to write a storyline.

Nathan Varni said that since Robert hasn't died yet, they will be writing a storyline in the future about Robert's death.
