Karla somewhat implied that GL wasn't her best work when she said she in the preview special that she "cringed" looking back at scenes from there. Before GL she started acting on a children's television which makes her evolution even more remarkable.

Oh I remember that from the special, too. hehe. I liked she can poke fun at herself.

That said...a children's show...that explains a lot. But just like soaps, some actors in children's shows have gone on to bigger things as well. Not young, young, but Sarah Joy Brown was a VR Trooper before she was the hurricane known as Carly Benson on GH for example.

How cute. They ran a Season 2 tv spot for BTG during tonight's RHOP.

Not sure if there's anything new in it though.

Lol at the "that explains a lot responses". Some of her diction and expressions still do give children's show, but that is similar to how actors with a theater background sometimes appear more theatrical on screen.

Dani Dupree is the role Karla Mosley was born to play.

I'm not watching that and you can't make me.

I do think Karla is lovely on the show to be clear. The bigger stuff she's given them is simply what they've asked for from Dani.

Exactly! So everything about early acting falls into place. No judgment.

Interesting discussion and viewpoints @Vee and @GLATWT88

One problem I think is that Smitty/Martin and Jacob/Naomi were established married couples at the debut. Now we all know that too many married couples is problematic and limiting in story. We want to see couples fighting to get together and facing obstacles along the way.

If Jacob/Naomi were living together straight away you could deal with commitment issues and an intrusion from a 3rd party would be more viable.

Same with Smitty/Martin. They've been straitjacketed to some extent by being married, noble and the parents of teens. Had they been a newish couple there would be way more story material. But I think this was a choice to make them more palatable to certain sectors of the audience.

The Ashley/Derek/Andre triangle was DOA. I was never sure whether we were supposed to be Team Ashley and hope she found true love with Andre or realized that Derek was her perfect man. The motivations and characterization never worked.

As for Dani/Bill they need to keep them apart with incidents every so often that bring them closer but never re-uniting. I've seen posters saying they should be back together this year. And then what?

Kial needs to be appearing way more often. Maybe that is in the works in the next few weeks.

Agree with Izaiah and Eva. The potential is there. We need to see Izaiah at work and with his family to get to know him better instead of just meet ups with Eva.

Chelsea/Madison has been poorly paced. We should have seen way more of the throuple story. It was merely hinted at. There was potential to do something interesting and it wasn't exploited. Instead we went to psycho kidnapper and insta romance.

I posted this on the BTG October discussion thread:

"I stepped away from BTG temporarily. But I had planned to return to BTG eventually. But then, meanwhile, my own life (real life) has become very very busy the past month, with no end in sight. I was following BTG recaps and spoilers for a while but now I can't even keep up with that. However, I am enjoying reading this thread daily and still read all the posts."

In that October post, I said I would be "busy in a good way", but I ended up being busy with something not-so-good.
I wasn't going to post this, but it's clearly relevant to BTG right now:
The update for myself personally: A family member had disclosed to me that they have an inherited genetic mutation that is a marker for cancer.
*** Not BRCA but a DIFFERENT cancer gene thing ***
This is something my mother died from many years ago.

I had procrastinated getting tested. (so yes I understand Kat on BTG). But I did get tested. This involved long distance appointments to specialists at a research hospital in another city.
*** IMPORTANT: A few genetics clinics will allow you to do a test by postal mail, if you live far from a decent clinic. (This depends on what the test is, what the genetic marker is, and what the clinic is).
I chose to go to the research facility in person because why not seek the best care?

The result is that I did test positive for the mutations.
The mutations I have affect more than one body part.
Then I had ultrasounds and biopsies for each relevant body part as a precaution.
(I don't have cancer yet, thankfully).

My next step is contacting family members.
My original family member has one mutation, but I have TWO mutations, so I have to contact everyone my family member already contacted, and tell them to get tested for BOTH.

Thankfully, although I am elderly, I am still in good health and chances are I will remain healthy. But still this process is emotionally exhausting.

Because of all this, I hadn't had time to watch soaps for the past few months. Ironically, I had decided to tune into BTG over the holidays to unwind; but then I read spoilers and recaps and ... here I see art parallel to my life. And it's all gone from Paramount Plus anyhow. I might try to find copies of the recent episodes later on, when I'm emotionally ready to watch it.

Please get tested for whatever.
A) you can save your own life.
B) you can save the lives of any children/grandchildren you might have.
C) you should get tested as young as possible, don't wait.

Also. One of my mutations doesn't affect me, but if I had children with a spouse who coincidentally had the same mutation, then our children would get it. But this is only relevant to a specific gene, so this might be rare.
(I don't have that situation personally, but it's good for anyone to know that you might want to have the other biological parent of your children get tested.)

End of PSA.

Edit to add:

  • I'm not going to apologize for making a long post about this. If it saves one life, it's worth it that I posted.

  • I commend BTG for addressing these issues.

I don't want to further derail this thread with discussion about my personal life, so please don't reply. Just get tested if you need to.

Back to discussion of the show!

Rewatching from the beginning today, and whew... the production was bright. You can definitely tell they had those 'temporary lights' they mentioned. Production-wise, the serial looks 100% better now than it did then.

Married or not, I don't think Smitty and Martin have been lacking in story (unlike Naomi and Jacob where any occasional excitement comes from his association with Kat, or Ashley in general post-Andre). They also have had at least a couple fairly explicit love scenes in the last few months, and plenty of overt physical affection over the last year. My issue is not with them being married, but with the show not generating enough hot new couples or triangles.

The rest of your post I largely agree with, though I think Chelsea and Madison has begun to improve a bit once they settled in post-kidnapping. Except for Madison's presently-invisible mother.

I would love for the Bill/Dani/Andre triangle to hit high gear (and I am all for Bill and Dani reuniting further down the road, breaking up again, etc). But you can't rely on just those three triangle/quad-wise. Just as one example, when they had Naomi fall drunk into Izaiah's arms I thought this might lead to her being tempted away from Jacob by the prodigal son while he was already involved with Eva, and Jacob ultimately having that much-discussed fling with Kat fandom has been clucking about for the better part of nine months. But now Izaiah and Naomi don't interact; Izaiah rarely interacts with anyone other than Eva and his family. That should change.

Yeah I saw that, I'm happy for him

Me too. And it's so funny switching over to GH and Jon's there today too haha.

Did he replace Ben Gavin then, or was Ben in Friday's opening? I can't remember, but it seemed like we still had an even number of people in today's opening.
