Seriously, has there ever been a headwriting stint as incompetent and uninspiring as this?

Weeks of characters standing around that fake outdoor set. Dumb reveal, nonsensical back story.

My latest theory. Carter deliberately killed Damien to clear the way for his beloved boss to reunite with Lily. They were both drugged to remove any suspicion from Cane.

OK, so Cane invites Chance to protect him at his "gathering" because Cane feels like he has a target on his back. If Cane thinks he's a target and Genoa City's Chance is the "best in the world" to guard him, I'll give Cane that. But why didn't he cancel the "gathering." That he went ahead with it, didn't he consider that one or more of the guests could be caught in the crossfire? He should have seen that from a mile away. That he seems to have ignored that possibility, I consider that negligence. (Also, that "all-knowing" Victor Newman accepted the invitation without bringing along a security detail is pretty baffling, too.) I can't imagine any resolution to this storyline that could save it, even a little bit. At this point, I think the best they can do is wind it up during the first half of next week and never mention it again. I'll follow that advice as well, as I've already given this way more time than it deserves.

In Y&R history not since Latham in 2007.

Obviously JG has hit rock bottom but ultimately there’s no one in line for a replacement anytime soon. Let’s see how far this bottomless pit goes down.

Hate to say it, but if the soap is performing in demos/ratings, I don't see TPTB stepping in to replace Josh Griffith in any of his positions.

That’s the unfortunate thing, the show remains number 1 while being trash.

BTG is getting criticism/praise/discussion over the Martin story whereas Y&R's one big story seems to have no supporters here or elsewhere.

And so far to me Billy Flynn is playing Cane very one note- basically kind of an earnest sad sack.

There's a reason why no 2007 episodes were shown during the classics.

Halfway through the month and 90% has been "what is this mess?"

I’ve actually looked other places online and a lot of people around the net feel just like this board does.

Yep. One thing that I've enjoyed over this past weekend has been love it/hate it/don't care about it, Martin's Secret on BTG DOES have people talking. Meanwhile, Y&R is getting serious (and well-deserved) side-eye.

Same. Love the actor, but a sad sack after months of how quirky, but powerful 'Dumas' is not the way to go. Hehe TSJ's version of Tucker was more cunning.

Don’t remind me of TSJ’s Tucker 😭😭. Him and Ashley and him and Audra had legs 😭

I actually thought Latham had the most potential of the post-Bell headwriters. When she was still working with Kay Alden and Jack Smith I think the collaboration worked and she did have some good ideas. I especially loved how much she featured Dru and Neil. The mistake was making her EP and giving her so much power that the balance was thrown off. Unfortunately, that has become a trend and now we have a similar situation where JG is HW and EP with no real oversight.

This is the biggest problem. I do feel there were times they could've replaced him but not right now when the ratings are strangely really strong. There doesn't appear to be the same quality control in recent years. Look how long it took Ron Carlivati to leave Days or the GH writers switch. The biggest shock was how fast they got rid of Patrick Mulcahey.

I don't understand how Y&R has been able to maintain such strong ratings, particularly with this current storyline. They've been sitting in those fake looking bushes for over a month. Of all the sets to create I can't believe that is what they wasted their time on. For one, it can't be recreated in a studio realistically and limits their movement so much. I imagined it would last a week, maybe two, but as long as they've been there is ridiculous.

So Nick & Sharon are being held captive in some dirty old room. Oh goodie, it’s not like we’ve seen this before!
