Glad they are pushing Smitty into the Marcel storyline. He has so much potential as a character. This excites me!

Marcel was probably the police officer on duty the night that Martin’s “flashback” happened.  This is why Martin doesn’t want Smitty doing the article on him.

-- Whoever does the casting on this show should get a raise. There's not a guy on Gates who isn't fine as hell.

-- Ted is being written as somewhere between clueless and dumb. Hiring Eva to run his office? How does he think that's going to go down with Nicole? With his daughters? It's a stupid move.

-- Did I miss the dialogue about Eva going to school for all this executive  office stuff? She's done hair since high school, but now apparently knows everything about running an office -- and can even swap out computer programs without approval or notice.

-- Good scenes with Nicole and Martin, but it's a big "HUH?" for me that Martin would go to her like this when we know there are so many secrets.

-- Derek and Ashley continue to be a miss. The writing for them is terrible. I get wanting them to be awkward around each other, afraid to mess up, but that awkwardness has to be realistically portrayed in the dialogue -- and it's not.

Real people don't talk to each other the way they do, especially a couple who's been together for a couple years.

Today's episode was preempted twice due to inclement weather. The ending of the episode was not shown.

I enjoyed Martin and Nicole. It was about time we got some mother and son scenes.

I don't know what it was, maybe because I haven't seen him in a minute but Martin was looking fine as hell in this episode! It was so nice seeing him again as well as Marcel and Carlton!

I know people were giving those of us who don't like nuTed hell but you can't tell me that man aint a complete bust. The character is useless now. He is so meek and has no chemistry with anybody. I don't understand the holdup when it comes to adding Carlton to contract and pairing him with Nicole. He is a strong actor and has good chemistry with Nicole. I need them to stop these rare appearances for him and commit.

Second paragraph took the words right out of my mouth.

As we're never going to see it, why not have Eva be working at Ted's office in a less senior capacity?

Say someone else stepped up to take over Kat's position, so Eva could slot in there and this would be a great opportunity for Eva to upskill.

BTW I had no idea Kat was an office manager.

I'm still finding them hard to buy as mother and son. He looks too old and she too young.

Nu Ted is OK but yes, seems a bit timid. I think it's his physical presence as well as his delivery.

Not to get to personal but his head is kinda out of proportion to his body and makes him look smaller than he is. Don't hate on me! Probably one of the reasons the turtlenecks have gone.

Nice to see Mona, Carlton,Marcel and the guy visiting Martin. Those extra people add another layer.

Who was the guy that spotted Martin at the club?

Yes, Derek/Ashley continue to be zzzzzz....

Eva never went to school for executive office stuff.  The only reason Nicole hired her as a temporary replacement for Laura:  Mona recommended her based on a conversation Mona had with Leslie at Orphey Gene's with the ladies -- Leslie told Mona that Eva could do it, and Mona believed Leslie.

My sense of it is that Leslie may not have known of Eva's talent.  Leslie probably figured that Eva could fake it well enough until the reveal.

But I think that Eva was just really inwardly skilled with technology and naturally talented at organizing schedules and filing systems.  I believe this, perhaps because, in real life, I have known people who can walk into any office and learn the system fast, because they have the instinctive ability to organize things and the ability to learn technology quickly.   (In my headcannon, I expect that Eva probably had color-coded paperwork systems she created for herself during highschool, LOL, but in creative bright colors.)   So I think that Eva had this ability to learn -- but never had the chance to try it until she got the temporary job working for Nicole.
Anyhow, once Eva had the chance to work for Nicole, she blossomed at that sort of thing, and both Nicole and Ted saw that she could do it.

Remember, just before the anniversary reveal, Ted and Nicole told Eva that they were so impressed with her that they had decided to keep her employed in some capacity after Laura returned from medical leave; and that they would pay for Eva to go to medical coding training school.

I think that all of that caused Ted to believe that Eva could run the organizational parts of his medical office.  And he still wants to send her to medical coding training.

Sure it's a stretch. But I think it's plausible.

But more plausible that she would take a less senior position. Then after a few months Ted could be all 'You've come so  far and are ready to move up'

That soap trope that everybody is super successful and talented and just slide into jobs/careers without much experience or grunt work

There is story in the struggle.

eg the purse line might not be a huge success and Kat and Chelsea could learn and grow from that.

I think Eva being a hairdresser and being self employed taught her how to organize schedules, budget, and to anticipate the needs of those she was providing a service to.  All of which are transferable skills.

Ted also said that she could work to get certified so it does sound as though she's going to be given paid training/education in order to do the job.

An unexpected benefit to this Ted/Eva conversation is that we got an answer as to what exactly Kat's job was before she and Chelsea decided to go into business together.
