Honestly, am I missing something? I have seen the mention of the cuts, but I guess I am missing the abruptness. Now when BTG started, it was more noticeable for sure. Same with the music. But two months in, I believe we have gotten better transitions and fades to black...complete with actress staying in place and staring into (what would be) their closeup. Or background (if not dramatic) music for the fade to blacks.

But like I said...I must be missing it, but I don't see how.

I don't think you're missing anything. As I said, I think the cuts, transitions, and fades are better than they were in the first month -- but they're not there yet. I still get the sense they're trying to be different than the other soaps, and I don't see a need to do that when being different is awkward.

Yep.

I think that's the case. It's clearly intentional, because every director is doing it as the standard thing to do. That doesn't mean it works. It doesn't.

The show has so much going for it and doesn't need gimmicks.

I can really only speak for my own experience, but when I wear a jockstrap it very much rounds the butt out at the top lol.

Now as for the various comments about editing the editing staff doesn't have any daytime experience. The editing needs work and hopefully that happens. There was a scene today where Bill barely finished a sentence before it abruptly cut to another scene.

I think if those cuts were meant to be gimmicks they wouldn't be so low-key. They remind me a bit of how many GH episodes last spring and summer would end very quietly bc the show was in constant BTS turmoil. I don't think that's the case here, but I do think they were experiencing clear early birth pangs at BTG in this period.

The hard cuts to black and commercial are not new for soaps - the Guza II, Frank Valentini, etc. GH has practiced them for decades now. The only difference is that many of BTG's are currently on quiet or low-key scenes. I think that will likely change as the show gets more of its sea legs.

Like the current discussion about sets in the Y&R thread, I think I will try to see if I notice when I watch the next few episodes.

Agree.

Oh, today truly has been the day for new knowledge.

See? Now I'm really going to try to notice when I watch today's episode.

Gotta admit, Naomi dropping out of the case against Bill’s firm feels like a bit of a letdown to me. I was really hoping we’d get a court battle between the two of them, especially with May sweeps coming.

Sort of like with the Quartermaine crypt thing on GH, what was the point of it all if it was just gonna wrapped up in a nice, neat little bow and ended?

And yes I agree, Brandon Claybon had improved a little. Finally, I’m getting the impression that Martin actually likes his husband

I’m interested in the drama with Tyrell, and also with Samantha’s modeling. Those two situations could lead to a lot of good conflict between Martin and Smitty.

Really? That thing has been popping for weeks now, LOL.

So happy to hear that! I love their scenes.

Facts!

Same. Andre has some nice chemistry with Eva. I would really enjoy them as a couple. But, it seems they are going with Andre/Dani right now. Dani’s dress even coordinated with his jacket.

Yep. Martin has the most interesting storyline on the show; it has the potential to be truly awesome. The fact I know absolutely nothing right now is the most exciting part too. Very curious about how Tyrell struggles will connect with the overarching story, and Not really that interested in Samantha being a model; a male model carrying on the family legacy sounds much more interesting to me.

    • Yeah his acting was flat today
    • BLQ wanting Maxie to chose who she wants as a friend made BLQ selfish and it was bad timing because I loved her with Tracy Love that Rocco and Danny have more to do Shirtless Gio and Vaughn was fun Tracy and Lois should be excellent on monday
    • Oops, sorry about that. I'm awful with remembering names, LOL. Thanks for sharing the picture!
    • Beginning to end, just a GREAT episode. -- Starting with the shallow but also vital, the GH gods finally answered and gave us a Shirtless Gio. I've made my infatuation with Gio very clear, and the reveal did not disappoint. Boy is beautiful. I love his face, too. -- On any other show Vaughan would be THE snack, but today goes to Gio. -- Nothing in the episode seemed to be filler, and all of it seemed important. Brook Lynn and Tracy...Drew and Willow...Carly and Nina...Rocco and Danny...Dante and Lulu -- especially Dante and Lulu. -- Everything played like an A story at a high point in the plot. Excellent pacing and dialogue.
    • Maurice Johnson wasn't bad, but he lacked the emotional impact acting the story asked for.
    • So, I finally watched and I will have to agree with everyone that TMG and Ambyr are stars.  This episode reminded me why I thought Maurice Johnson was a poor actor in the beginning. He does well with the light, fun and loving dad/husband stuff but today he brought his scene partners down through his failure to tune into the emotion the scenes needed. I also didn't enjoy Claybon's scenes. He's improved for sure, but yikes it's rough having him play these intense scenes like he's narrating a science documentary.  Another thing I will say and I'm not sure whether this is good or bad (yet), is that I didn't know who to emotionally connect with. Many times I didn't feel anything at all or a connection with the character's emotions. I feel like the Duprees are the "good guys" that have villainous ways and the villains actually have a lot of layers to them. I didn't even feel sad for Nicole, but today didn't seem to be about Nicole. I actually didn't know what to feel about anyone. I think the only time I felt strongly was when Ted pretty much dismissed his own daughter (Eva) to go after his wife. Granted he's not completely sure that Eva is his daughter, but the way he pushed her away again in that moment was rough.

      @Contessa Donatella
    • I have some questions: what happened to Countess Wilhelmina and Mad World? Last I remember they switched owners (CW went to Titan and MW went to DiMera or it was the other way around)
    • Lynn Deerfield with Hulswit as Ed (Don't count off for spelling, please)
