Because Mike Manning identifies as bisexual. And based on his writing on Days, it seems to me like Ron has a problem with bisexuality, particularly male bisexuality.

And I’m worried that he’ll project that bias onto Smitty in episodes that he writes or breaks down

I posted this upthread, too late to edit to add on, so reposting with more ...

Sonia Blangiardo is listed as a producer on the table-read script that Colby Muhammad posted on instagram this morning.

Sonia Blangiardo Goins is currently a director at DAYS.  She's the one that at least 25 of the DAYS cast&crew requested in a petition
to be promoted to co-EP to replace the repugnant firedguy(Alarr.) .
But DAYS promoted Janet Spellman Drucker to co-EP instead.

Sonia Blangiardo has previously directed at "As the World Turns" (2005-2010), "General Hospital" (2012-2013), "All My Children" (2013) and the web series "Winterthorne" (2015), and also was a producer on "All My Children", "As the World Turns", "One Life to Live" and the web series "Tainted Dreams."  She has been nominated for 4 Daytime Emmys, winning two (2002 for "One Life to Live" and 2007 for "As the World Turns.") Blangiardo was born April 18, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York. She married actor Brandon Goins on April 6, 2018, and her first credit as Sonia Blangiardo Goins aired on May 1, 2018. Tenure: October 14, 2015-Present

Quoting The Wrap from August 2023:

An insider close to production told TheWrap that NBCU brass requested the extended hiatus to give the show time to find a path forward. Earlier this week, at least 25 members of the show’s cast and crew signed a petition obtained by TheWrap that detailed the “traumatic and disheartening” work environment made public in the reports, and asking for Alarr to be replaced as co-executive producer with longtime director Sonia Blangiardo.

“As you make this critical decision with ‘Days of Our Lives’ moving forward, we humbly ask that you consider our collective voice in choosing the best leader for the future of our show,” read the letter.

End quote from The Wrap.

I just wanted to add on that Ron Carlivati being listed as a breakdown writer ...
Hopefully his misogynist tendencies will be counteracted by Sonia Blangiardo being hired on the producers team ...
At least 25 of the cast and crew thought Sonia would be the best choice to turn the Days ship around after firedguy.A.

Hmmm.......I suppose all we can do is wait until it debuts to find out. If it has an awful debut (a la Generations) and remains that way for roughly the first two weeks then we'll probably know why. It typically doesn't take very long to get an actual feel of any new show.

Daytime soaps are different, IMO. You do need to give the actual product a few months to see if there is any momentum and if its identity is set up properly.

Generations didn’t level up until NBC mandated Jorn Winther come in as Senior EP to guide/school Sally Sussman Morina on what it actually means to produce and write an interesting daytime drama (but once he had given that show any momentum, it was already too late).

    • Daytime belonged to CBS. They would have been making a lot of $$$ with that lineup. For context, this is the lineup at that time. Only one soap on ABC (GH) and NBC (TD) which was still an anthology at that point. So it wasn't until the opposition added more soaps that they became competitive. NBC CBS ABC 10:00am Say When! • Per recent Twitch live: Wraps filming his new film on Friday. Begins a new film on May 19. Will resume regular Twitch streams soon. Has a lot of projects coming out later this year. His current project has kept him in Tennessee longer than he was meant to be.
    • Has BTG been using flashbacks much? Of course, as a new show there aren't many f/b worthy moments but I think they can get by w/o having to use/recreate the Leslie reveal scene. What other 'soap' tropes have they employed or ignored so far? We've talked about the lack of traditional cliffhangers with lingering camera shots. They have done a couple of fantasy scenes. Has anyone apart from Dana had talk to themselves scenes? Montages?
    • Thank You!!! @rsclassicfanforever and to anyone else who contributed to the vaults over the years. I have dipped in/out and gotten my life watching Y&R early years. I never would had the appreciation for characters like Lorie Brooks if not for the Vaults, so again, Thanks.
    • Another lot of skipped episodes to look forward to when the time comes on Videoland. So annoying. They have skipped so many, especially in  season 15 where they skipped 19 episodes throughout the season. Is it just me or is the vault down? It's like a different error message this time so it's hard to know if it's me this time.
    • thank you for uploading the rest of season 12!!! I hope i can get them soon the links down! Thank you again for posting the B&B classic episodes to revisit!!!!
    • Hmm, okay.  BTW, my only problem with Kai & the surgery story is where is this guy's family? And, another BTW, I think I may have inadvertently added to that rumor from last year about a male descendant of Justus Ward. You see, that is an idea I could really get behind! Like I would pay to see those scenes. And, true, I did hear it ... [sheepish grin]

Yes they can. While rare, its not like soaps in the past havent said F that and used flashbacks of a scene even when a recast has been done. OLTL used to do that
    • Well, I am glad to know that & for it to make sense, so thanks for the info &  the perspective, also. At the end of AMC 1.0, I thought the new young talent was really quite good, but I missed Eden & NuBianca just ... well, I wasn't 100% sold on her & Bianca was so important to me. But then, Tad & Dixie were also important & yep, there's another problem, for me I mean. I'm not your typical AMC fan but I hung in there anyway. I know what you mean because it wasn't as good as it once had been but it was still Agnes's show in Pine Valley. Some of that is a bittersweet nostalgic clinging to the past, I guess. By that time I'd been through so many show cancellations. AW, Santa Barbara, PC, The City, GL, ATWT.

Betsy Snyder, when she was at DAYS was part of the WGA winning writing team before she died, tragically far too young.
