Leslie slapping Monica will always be my favorite. I didn’t even see the full original episode until the last few years. But the 35th GH anniversary special showed it with Denise Alexander’s commentary and I have been a fan ever since. Starts about 6:20 minutes in.

”What about love Monica?”

I just think it’s produced in a way that heightens the whole soapiness of it- the dialogue, the close ups, the actual slap that it seems like Monica truly felt. Hell even the 80’s lip gloss. Fun.

Scenes like those are why I refuse even to entertain the notion that Dr. Rick Webber was screwing all the nurses at GH while also involved with those two.  Lesley was a lot of things, but she was no fool; and there's no way in hell she would defend Rick like that to Monica if she had known what a louse he really was.  Nice try, Chuck Pratt, Jr. and Bob Guza, Jr., but you failed.

It's not so much the slap that impresses me as it is the ferocity she displays both before and afterward.  Very few actors in daytime could give it to their adversaries right between the eyes the way Susan Flannery could.  Her anger and disgust over Brooke's actions are almost terrifying.

I'd have to agree with Eric Braeden: to allow a child to be that disrespectful toward a parent - even a parent like Victor Newman - is beyond the pale.  I can't remember what happened next, but I know that if I were Victor/EB, I would have told her to get the hell out of my house and not to come back until they had apologized.

It never made sense to me back when they did it! Thankful they didn’t go the rumored original route of Rick having molested Laura, but this was almost as bad.

She’s so visceral! It’s a shame they made her into such a tragic character by killing off her whole family. Monica had teeth, and the best version of her had an edge. Leslie almost slapped the bun off her head.

    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. They're connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters.
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
    • My hunch is what you've described. JFP is likely back working on transitioning the show to a new studio and embracing new technology for its production model.
    • The woman who was the co-chair of Latinas for Trump is now complaining about his targeting immigrants that she thought were "safe." I also read a puff piece from yet another "insider" journalist who lives to normalize fascists - this one with a tech bro who was venting off the record because he thought voting for Trump was cool and would show up the Democrats and maybe we'd get Greenland, but now he's getting upset.  These people still support Trump, and Republicans, they just want to make sure they get credit for being respectable. And they will get it.
    • I really do wish someone could. Just a few characters in very simple backdrops, with very real problems that are just a little larger than life, like the '50s and '60s. All the characters having a level of dignity or respect. And their inner lives are what dominate the story, even if there are outside forces at play.
    • It's a lesson to never be loyal because once your use is up, you're shown the door. MSW was the only bright spot for CBS for awhile, and once they were back on top... they promptly sabotaged the show as a repayment for all that the show had done for the network.
    • The show made a mistake in not bringing in more McKinnon kids, specifically bringing back Ben. Kathleen was leaving, and while I like you am very fond of Sally Spencer as MJ, that didn't seem to be a common view. They also decimated the character in a truly sick storyline. So that just left Cheryl.
    • Between Gwen and Cat, the show often seems to side with those who cause lots of cruelty to Jack and Jennifer. I am half-surprised that the show hasn't brought Peter Blake back for more of the same.  I don't really know if there is a purpose for them in Salem now, but I do feel a sense of stability and rightness when Melissa Reeves is back in the role of Jennifer and back in the Horton house, in spite of...well, a lot of offcamera stuff we all know perfectly well.
    • I like to call her an FC-reject character
