I think it's pretty obvious why Roberta Leighton hasn't returned. You have to wonder how she allowed it.

I always wonder what these ex soap actors do for a living. She hasn't worked as an actress in  years.

Young and the Restless 50th anniversary, Tracey and Jennifer better hustle back to their street corner before some other girls move in . Melody's dress is OK but Victoria's getup is very Endora from Bewitched.

I wouldn't hate it! They can have him at least mention what his son Brooks is up to these days i.e., Running Prentiss Industries.

Oof.

AD hasn't done anything, I think they were just trying to be funny. They fired her due to ageism (which is funny considering most of the leads on this show now are 40+). Or perceived ageism, anyway, SW isn't much younger than AD, just looks it.

I think Engen didn't enjoy Adam's dark turn and having Adam have gheysex was basically his "You know what? I don't need to do this" so he left. Homophobia? Probably. He was able to push through causing a woman's miscarriage and stealing a baby but having sex with a man for nefarious reasons was a bridge too far.

OK. I kind of figured it was Paul being facetious.

I never got why Chris Engen was demonized for not wanting to do the scene with Rafe--and this is coming from someone who is part of the LGBTQ community. It just never made any sense to make Adam "insta-gay" and then drop it. It has never been addressed again and all things tied to Rafe (Estella included) were ushered off the screen and never mentioned again.

One of the reasons I despised the framing of this story as some kind of brave and daring gay material - with anyone who objected to it being seen as homophobic - was that the show made sure Adam was seen as using Rafe rather than any sexual or romantic interest being involved. We were meant to be agog at how wild the show was, but never tried for any ambiguity in the storytelling. We never saw anything, aside from the infamous shot of Muhney's paw on mouthbreathing Rafe's bottom lip, and they made clear that Adam was still only interested in women. That Nelson Branco paraded Muhney, MAB, etc. as some kind of equality heroes still angers me, 15 years later.

Right. It was to sensationalise and scandalise viewers and they got the soap press to get behind the whole thing. Y&R kind of threw Chris Engen to the wolves, and they tempted fans with a possible gay SL which many had probably really wanted to see on Y&R for a long time.

And I have to wonder if the show wasn't already planning to replace Engen with thirsty-ass Muhney. I don't think Y&R was crazy about Engen's boyish take on a character that MAB wanted to go full-dark-villain.

Anyway, here is Engen's statement about his leaving:

And this is a SoapCentral article about the upheaval which presents more of Y&R/CBS's view:

Especially on a show where actual gay storylines were historically seen as out of the question. Not even worth discussing as a possibility, writers have said, due to Y&R’s conservative audience. Yet that and the sloppy Phillip-faked-his-death-because-he-was-gay story got the green light.

    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
    • You've been seeing him all along. You just didn't know it was him, I guess.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
