2023: The Directors and Writers Thread

Well, Gary Tomlin (current GH director and Ficore) would be the obvious choice. My other guess would be that they rehired Michael Conforti (former GH writer and ficore) who was fired from Y&R with the writer blood bath.  But we'll know soon because they probably hired writers to work beginning in May even if the striking writers left a few months of story and scripts.

Re: Griffith.  There are (now) no more script(dialogue) writers or breakdown writers being *credited* on Y&R, but there *might* be scab writers working under Griffith.  Scab dialogue writers were usually uncredited on most of the soaps during the prior writers strike.

Griffith fired most of the breakdown writers in February.  Whatever the remaining breakdown writer wrote before the strike began ... has now already aired, hence that bd writer is longer credited.  It's possible that bd writer is striking.   Theoretically, there could be a new uncredited scab breakdown writer, but we wouldn't know.  Or, as you said, maybe what is now airing could be Griffith doing all the breakdowns himself.

No writers listed for GH today, so it looks like they're not going to list who's writing the show.  Let's see if Gary Tomlin continues to direct or not.  If we don't see his name pop up for months as a director, then we can make a guess that he's writing for the show.

I just saw this. Carolyn Culliton told me back then in a tweet that Lorraine Broderick had retired. That's when she intimated that she & Richard might be thinking about it.

Today was one of my random days to note all the full writing credits & see if there's been any change. Today Henry Newman was not listed. You probably already know that.

Fri., 7-28 Henry Newman back, today's script writer

BTW, when DAYS was presented with their WGA award by Susan Lucci, Jamey & Cheryl & Lorraine were there with Ron. So, even though she had retired, she got to go to one last award presentation & party. Nice! Those people were all in pix that were tweeted.

We’re so removed from the Golden Age of Soaps (or even the last time soaps were decent) that a lot of the most familiar names that come up are old as Methuselah. Wendy Riche being almost 80 still sort of blows my mind on a pure visceral level, but of course she is. She was almost 50 when she landed GH and that was 30 years ago. We’re all getting old.

    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
