Just one of many reasons why DAYS has become such a joke.  How can you get the audience to invest in anything emotionally when they know even on-screen deaths can be reversed?  Ron Carlivati might not want us to take it all seriously, but we still have to know there are ground rules.

I am pretty sure Bo died of brain cancer.  But I do think he had something wrong with his pancreas or liver at some point.  lol  I think Chelsea gave him some of her liver/pancreas as a transplant.

I mean, he's like one of the only characters that hasn't been presumed dead multiple times, so I don't mind it.  I think if played right by RC (which probably won't happen) it could be a great way to have Hope/Bo off the canvas but for a reason.  Bo's death had to be faked because he's undercover or hiding or something and Hope has to be on the run with him.  If you can't have the actors full time it's a decent excuse for them to be gone for now.

I wonder if the storyline has anything to do with Colin Murphy? Didn't Ron tweet something about the character a while back?

Remember, Colin was the only casualty of the Melaswen storyline. While leaving the island during a storm, he was lost at sea and assumed to have drowned.

I am not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. It was a mistake to kill off Bo, particularly when there was no good new man or story for Hope let alone solid writing. The way they were mishandled is one of so many black marks on the show (not unlike the many deaths of Jack Deveraux) and it's in their interest to fix it.

On Days?  A show that killed off half their cast and brought them back to live on an island that resembled Salem? Where entire groups of irrevocably dead people have been brought back to life by a mad scientist?  I totally understand your point and would agree for most soaps, but someone as iconic as Bo shouldn't be the lone example of THIS death on days matters.  Especially when IMO it can be fairly easy to explain away.  Kayla was the one that confirmed the brain tumor and she could have lied for Bo/the ISA for whatever reason and it was too dangerous too tell Hope and the kids.

At one point you just need to decide that you're not going to undo anymore deaths no matter how tempting it is. They can't change past decisions, but they can control future ones. I mean, they could've brought back Addie in the 80s to create a storyline for Doug/Julie and wouldn't Hope have been thrilled to see her mother back? But thank God they didn't.

Exactly. It's a little late to start grounding DAYS in reality. And even if you did reinvent the show, I wouldn't start by sealing this pointless death in concrete. AMC had the right idea when it resurrected several key people before going off ABC, then clean slated a ton of the show to reinvent it on Hulu. They had much more room to grow.

Again, I just don't think that logic fits Days.  They are re-doing a 30 year old story about devil Possession.  I don't think the current viewers of Days are going to be shocked Bo is alive.  That is on brand for the soap they are watching.

In the more grounded early 80's on Days of course it wouldn't make sense for the show, but this show hasn't been grounded for about 40 years.

100%.  Even if the show wanted to revamp, Bo's death is not the hill to die on for that movement.  Viewers aren't going to be upset Bo's alive lol.

It was the same principle with Will, that was also a mistake. I can think of a few others! But the point is, yes, they're right to do it especially since Kristian is, I suspect, unlikely to return on a contract, or an ongoing status that doesn't have a lot of outs or breaks like this silliness with Chandler Massey. At least with Hope you can say 'she's off with Bo'.

So start with Gwen or some other rando, not Bo Brady.

Right. Didn't some AMC character even see Jesse as an angel? And we see how that went, too. (And I was happy about that reversal, too.)

Yes, soaps used to have some reality. But those days - pardon the pun - are gone. If one wants to re-introduce reality, as I said, use the billion extraneous characters the show has, not the beloved classic characters.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
