Burgi probably costs more.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

It is a shame, as it seems like an innocent mistake on his part. But typical of Y&R to pinch a penny and cut a corner in pursuit of the most mediocre coaster of a soap opera possible.

Transcript of Burgi's January 11th instagram story:

“I’m here in Southern California and I hope wherever you are you are having a good one. I was just about to take a swim in the ocean and I looked something up on Google and I found an article about me getting released by the show by the writers. I just want to set the record straight. My wife had said something about my exit being the show’s choice, which is true, but the reality is I naively and inadvertently violated the show’s COVID policy. I was back east over Christmas and tested positive somewhere around Christmas at my niece’s house and visiting my 97-year-old mom. I took the necessary five days that the CDC recommended.  Not within the show’s guidelines, which is a 10-day protocol. So, I inadvertently violated the show’s COVID rules and protocols. I feel terrible about it. I still do. It bothers me mightily but it is what it is. I respect the show’s decision. They’re doing the best they can. We all are. I truly wish the gentleman coming in to play Ashland a wonderful time. He’s going to be working with the most incredible actress and a great, great cast. It’s an amazing show. I have nothing but good memories.”

Robert Newman and Amelia Heinle? An odd mental picture. I guess he probably won't be around long anyway, knowing this show.  I never cared much for Josh but Newman has his moments - or did on a show that wasn't as dead as Y&R has felt for an eternity.

Burgi made a good statement, but if he isn’t vaxxed, I don’t care about him.

It reminds me of Huss vs Nichols re: Tucker.

I had the same thought yesterday too.

Hopefully it's a sign like then that there is going to be a change BTS coming if they are all three heads are fighting over casting.

Agree.  If anything, I think this change seals Ashland's fate even more.  They can kill him off now and claim it's because Newman had no chemistry with Heinle.  (Which would be true, because Heinle has chemistry with virtually no one.)

It'd be a shame, though, because I would at least try an Ashland/Ashley/Traci triangle before just dumping him altogether.

And to those who suggest (jokingly) that Kim Zimmer join her former on-screen partner at this show?  No.  If she goes anywhere, let it be to B&B.
