Though I like his acting and certain stories he was in to me, Trevor St. John was checked out performance wise on One Life To Live after 2006. I felt like when they stopped going forward with that pairing, Todd/Victor was going to have with Evangeline, and they decided to go back with Blair for the 250th time. It became obvious he wanted to be anywhere but on that set. Though, he great chemistry with Florencia Lozano as Tea and with his on-screen children. Even Ted King on his SOD podcast interview admitted when he was on as Tomas TSJ didn't want to be there.

I love DAM but..someone who was trying to kill a child....and while yes, he did try to kill Reva...depending on who you talk to that should have gotten him a medal...it was hard.  I know they kind of explained it as when he fell it knocked whatever tumor was in his head loose so he was more normal but...here is something non popular...I HATED Scott Holmes as Tom..he was stodgy, cranky and stiff.  I think DAM would have been a great recast..yes, it would have been another de-aging of Tom but he would have made Tom fun, and sexy again.

HA..they backed off of that as the "internet" found out and went nuts...only a core group of, uh, women of a certain age..loved Cole and it came out when word got out..they just wanted to pretend everyone loved him so they backed off. They were also going to make Ashley Rick's daughter when he donated sperm but wisely canned that idea. What I think they should have done and can't believe they didn't, is make a daughter of Rick/Annie be alive..(didnt they say Annie miscarried Rick's kid) they LOVED pumping the Annie well, can you see a teenage version of Annie, who comes on acting all sweet, but has an agenda, coming in and being a Bauer too.."Michele, did anyone ever tell you that your annoying???"

That leads me to another unpopular opinion...Richard van Fleet wasn't a bad Ed at all. He shared more qualities with Mart Hulswit than Peter Simon ever did.  RVF running around Beiruit especially gave me MH vibes.

Rick could've easily have had a kid with Abby as she left town right after their split. I hated Ashley but at least making her a Bauer would give her a point as opposed to local rando with no strong ties to canvas.

I think the weak, unfocused writing and tone of the overall show at that point did him in. The show did not seem to know whom they wanted Ed Bauer to be, who he had been in the past, or what to do with him. TPTB have to understand the history of a legacy character, and have a solid plan for him, if they choose to return him to the canvas. This was not the case with Gentry's Ed, sadly. Another World spectatularly failed with Jacqueline Courtney's return as Alice in 1984 too. TPTB never learn.

I liked Richard Van Vleet, but he was also the first Ed I ever saw. I like him less now that I’ve heard Susan Pratt’s stories about what he was like on set (“I used to be a big deal on All My Children!”)

As for Robert Gentry: I never saw him during his original run, but he seemed like a complete miscast upon his return. I’m guessing too much time had passed (something like 30 years) since he originally played the role, and the character had changed.

That's how I feel about Peter Simon, he was my first Ed. When I started reading forums people would rave about "70s Ed" Mart Hulswit, later saw clips with him, Mike and Roger and I could see the warmth and energy that PS's Ed lacked by comparison.

Adding on about Peter Simon's Ed came off like a wuss.

I could not believe this guy could stand up to likes of Roger Thorpe and Alan Spaulding

Although a smaller guy I could buy Justin Dea's Buzz being a tough guy and standing up to the two big bullies of Springfield

I couldn't stand Peter Simon. I actually have a bad physical reaction when he pops up on screen. I'm not entirely sure why. I actually prefer Richard van Vleet and that's saying a lot!

Lord..more then one person saying they liked RVF as Ed..the world has gone MAD!!  I never like PS, I know he is a good actor but he comes across as so..disinterested and cold.  I heard they tried to get MH back but I just can't see Rauch and MADD and that group wanting to bring back a "fat" guy!

Ashley was.uh a bit bigger...so she could have been a Bauer...(I like the Bauers to look like real people with some meat on their bones..following in Charita's mode..) and she was always butting in and giving people unwanted advice so yea. I can't see Abby hiding that fact from Rick, especially as that was the reason they gave for her wanting to leave, she wanted to focus on her career and delay kids...plus I always  wanted a bad Bauer on screen..and imagine an Annie offspring!

Deas Buzz had a Napolean complex...and that worked except for the fact that no one brought him down a peg or two. I can see bulldog Buzz going after the big guys but I can' see Alan or Roger being intimidated by him. If by tough you mean loud..yes.

Following along the theme, an unpopular opinion might be that O'leary never came back as Rick and they recast the role either at the time they brought Rick back...(JFP was throwing a bone to fans in the aftermath of Mo dying) or later on, around the time O'leary indulged in his worst tendancies of mugging and thinking he was daytime's Bill Murray and lets face it, when he got sloppy fat!

I will say I actually liked Barbara Crompton as Mindy.  It's just that the show kept her in the Nick.and Alexandra too long.  The last few months of her stint, she felt more like Mindy..and had a good rapport with Robert Newman at Lewis Oil when she was working there..and had chemistry with MOL (who came back a few weeks before she left).

I would have preferred Simms be the Mindy to make visits in the last several years.  She had matured Mindy..and I always felt KT regressed Mindy maturity wise.

That's weird as that was the time I felt she came to life was during her last few months out of the dark cloud of Alex/Nick and with her family and Rick. Agree, she was one of the few women who had that kind of chemistry with him on screen.

    • Yes it does!! And neglect! They let it drop so long and so often it doesn’t really have much meaning beyond another recurring character killed off. I kind of agree. I don’t want Emma to be SA’d, but he was a creepy professor perv at first, and we could have higher stakes if they let him be a scumbag for longer. Even to add more suspects, like Gio punched his lights out for grabbing Emma innapropriately. Or even better, she punches him, then Gio does too. He had the potential to be fun for a bit longer. I always love it when they do a shooting in the snow on this show lol.

I went back to see how teen Sami even figured out how to sell a baby in 1993, and the recap is unintentionally hilarious. The exposition is so blunt it feels like the writers drafted it between bites of lunch. Suddenly there’s a teen mom named Karen who sold her baby through a shady lawyer, and somehow Sami just… knows this man and pays him with hospital volunteer money. You can tell they were trying to make the whole thing “plausible” enough, but also knew the baby wouldn’t be gone long enough to justify a real subplot.  I know one thing, if Karen had confided in Jamie, Sami would've never met Steve Miller. Jamie knew that snitches get stitches. Not to be confused with the horrific Stephen Miller, who was 8 in 1993. AND Just to show the audience how shady Steve the lawyer could be, he was played by this guy -- Character actor Terry Wills was cast as creeps on every sitcom in the 1980s.
    • I can’t help but to get drawn in by Dani and Andre but it just angers me that it’s so obvious that they’re not endgame.
    • John and Marlena may have committed adultery, but they weren't going to be smug creeps about it. "Roman, how do you feel about the name Isabella Titania Brady?"
    • -- It's always amazing to me that these "terrible breakdowns" (by writers so bad they shall not be named) are saved by incredible script writers. Every time

-- Kat is a "spoilt bitch" while Eva isn't??? -- Does Kat go too far with her mouth? Absolutely. But I get it. Eva has done some terrible things and continues to enable her criminal mother while Kat's family and boyfriend DEFEND her and show her love. -- Eva's complaints about Leslie are meaningless, because they're never backed up with anything. I'll take "spoilt bitch" any day before I take "criminal enabling hoe." -- It's nice that Martin accepts Eva, but the way he's handling it is eye-rolling. Eva gets hugs and smiles and full acceptance while Kat is trashed -- to Eva's face. -- Martin is STILL obsessing over the Kat conversation about sex that Samantha heard. Are you kidding me with this? And now Eva offers to speak to Kat. Yeah, very cute that the sister who screwed the other sister's boyfriend is the one with relationship advice. -- The food at Uptown looked pretty good today. Orphey Gene's food has yet to impress me, and I think it's clear that the country club chef is an alcoholic who cannot control his kitchen.
    • At this point, Marlena, John, and Roman all thought Roman was Belle's father. Sami had switched the initial blood tests. When it was time for another round of tests (because Belle was jaundiced), Sami panicked and kidnapped the baby.  Up until January 1994, Sami was the only one who knew that John was Belle's father. Next up were Stefano and Peter, once Stefano read Sami's diary (he figured it would reveal what was going on between John & Marlena). Stefano revealed the truth of Belle's parentage to Roman AFTER Marlena revealed her tryst with John (about two weeks later, to be exact). Marlena and John were the last ones to find out (during February sweeps, naturally). The John Black name was revived in September 1991.
    • The show has been getting better and better. Dani and Andre solidly "coupling" has been amazing. Genie Francis says soaps don't do couples anymore...maybe Dani/Andre can prove her wrong. To me they are the best couple on the show.  Eva vs Kat is always great. The show continues to find ways to keep it going and I'm all for it. Kat annoys me so bad. She is such a spoiled princess and acts it. I agree the comment about wishing Eva had been aborted was low. If that were the case, then why is she constantly getting in Eva's face? Why doesn't Kat just stay away and ignore her completely like she doesn't exist? I know. I know. It wouldn't be soaping.  This Hayley plot to kill Bill now taking a detour onto Izaiah has me curious. Does Hayley even know what she wants? I can't wait to see the fallout for Hayley and Randy....but not too soon.  I am tired of hearing about Winterfest already though. Can we get to it? lol
    • Great rundown of Long's second stint. Now you got me wondering...and again, thinking how real life impacted the direction of the show. We were talking about how practically the minute Long landed back on GL, she wrecked Ross and Vanessa and threw Alan and Reva together. Soon after, Alan started pursuing Vanessa again (because he was SO afraid of the "real" feelings he was having for Reva for the first time in his life, LOL). It's like she was determined to do an Alan/Vanessa/Somebody triangle at some point. She started one with Billy as the third side (well, actually, Alan was the third side) back in late 83/early 84 before Bernau exited GL the first time. So she had to drop it. But since Billy was gone this time, she seemed to decide, hey, I'll do it, only with Reva as the missing side of the triangle. Then Maeve left, messing that up! So I wonder, would she have had Alan and Vanessa marry? Maybe not, but I doubt Vanessa would have taken kindly to being overthrown for Reva. Could have been done in a really humiliating way, like after the invitations went out or even at the wedding. Maybe she would have helped Phillip with his plot to dethrone Alan. Lots of interesting possiblities.  I did like the way this story was handled. Chelsea was clearly more in love with Phillip than he was with her. Even "dead," no one could compete with Beth. So it was always doomed, but they showed how Phillip lost his way because he was obsessed with getting back at his dad. I also thought the relationship between Alan and Chelsea was a little...strange. He was very much in favor of their relationship, even though she came from an even lower background than Beth's. She also always fiercely defended Alan. Which has made me wonder if--ick--one of the many writing teams was thinking about putting them together romantically. (Of course, in my headcanon, where Alan has a youthful romance with the never seen Reardon sister, his fondness for Chelsea then makes perfect sense.) I always wondered why they never thought of putting Chelsea with Rick, especially after they butted heads over the death of her fiance. Seemed like a no-brainer.
    • Aubrey's Marina was great...but they wasted her...she could have been a new Nola (since she was living in the BH I would have had her find the N.R. + K.N. thing Nola carved in her bedroom...."I don't know who this girl was but she seems to be as unhappy as I am stuck here.") And have her set her cap for a good recast Shayne and take on the Old Bag Reva when she tries to interfere.."Oh please, I heard she was back in Oklahamo giving blow jobs behind the gas station, and she acts like she is Mother of the Year...God I hate her."  When they recast with that boring Kit girl and then...cutesy Mandy it was done. I love the idea of Billy and Van bonding over hell on wheels Peter. and kicking **** to the curb.Billy went to prison to protect him from Roger but that was never mentioned when Billy returned. Peter and Aubrey's Marina would raise Hell together..do a Nolaredux  in that he bangs her, she gets preggers, passes that off as Shayne's with Ole Bag Reva suspicious...I could see Marina ringing a bell to get the Ole Bag to bring her some ice cream...."But Grandma...oh you hate that I am sorry, okay, Grammy, you know I can't be stressed and oh, Shayne would be mad if I lost the baby..."ah what could have been.

Yeah, that's I mentioned the christening, when the truth comes out Reading October and November 1993, what is actually nuts is how much story they went through in a month. Because John's not even interested in Marlena at the time of Belle's birth.  He is rebound lusting for Kristen, who delivered Belle (funny mention in SOD about Marlena being unable to service at the Horton cabin on her "cellular" phone, I assume there was heightened vigilance to the exposition covering the tech of the time).   And, of course, since it was Kristen helping Marlena give birth during a stormy night, they both looked glossy, windswept, and gorgeous.    Justice for Jamie, I bet she's still holding Sami's secrets wherever she is.
