Beautiful, talented, certainly was not known for her acting (this was her only acting role) but featured in an iconic role where she played the title character. A Diva with the common touch. Ms. Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez, R.I.P.

Just keep in mind that 1980s films are not without controversy and only today, I realized in retrospect, there are one or two problematic moments in this film. It is an undeniably beautiful looking film and Wiggins Rodriguez looks and sounds exquisite in it.

Thanks for warning me. I generally can deal with most of these elements...although I really despise 'ironic" racism, homophobia, etc. that is seen as so cool in recent years.

From what I can recall, these are not among the problematic issues, more of maybe lines that get crossed by today’s standards but were probably seen as towing a fine line back then. I don’t want to spoil it for you in case you want to watch the film for yourself.

I saw a claim that John Byrne drew Wolverine in his likeness. I'm not too sure on that one, but there is a resemblance.

You may not immediately recognize the name but you likely will recognize this young woman from the image of her as a little girl who, through her tears had a very strong impact on the meaning of empathy for people with AIDS and HIV. It felt like such a blessing to see her progress and blossom over the years. Still, 39 is too young for her to pass on. May she rest in peace.

Pamela Salem 1944-2024 - News - Big Finish

Pamela was on many shows, including a stint in the golden era of EE as part of Den Watts' slow decline. She may be best known for her work on Classic Doctor Who, which helped lead to a great deal of Big Finish audio work in her later years. 

I remember her well. Great actress.
