Thanks...was searching for it but to no avail....found this episode where a younger Alexander Walters from ATWT appears and this must be one of Terry Lester last air dates as Jack. I hadn't seen an episode of him working with Jess as Jill.

ONE rumor has that it was staff reaction to a lukewarm reception of Brown & Kruger in the roles that lead to the Katherine/Jill twist. Not sure how true that was but sheesh Katherine & Jill would probably find peace together gushing over the same grandchild.

I do blame Jack Smith all the way though. Y&R was the #1 soap and has an already well established, seasoned, and talented  Emmy winning team. Yet Smith became desperate for attention, shocks, ratings grabs, and Emmy grabs, something Y&R never ever did before.

Agreed! Katherine was such a nasty old rich lady with nothing but time on her hands lol. Under Latham & MAB they gave her sainthood and even talked up about what a “successful smart businesswoman” she had always been. All I could say was “Oh dear God in heaven...”

I think it's a fair assumption to make that the Jill/Katherine twist might not have happened if Tom & Bashioum were still in the roles! Much harder to dump them than the OK recasts (although Brown was getting better/settling in nicely). But I have to disagree, there would be NO peace for Kay & Jill over their shared (great)grandchild. It would've (SHOULD'VE) been another decade of fighting. lol

Sadly, the viewership loss at the time gave Smith the excuse to do what he did. Nevermind that it was normal for a show to suffer when it lost three long-term actors/characters (especially Shemar Moore) and its executive producer. The shock value and "twists" just were not needed.

I had forgotten about the flashback.

I always had a crush on Thom.  Too bad his acting was atrocious. He seemed to be acting from his nose. I actually think its his normal voice .

Brenda's Jill from 1983 to 1985 was more cold, lady of the manor with a little camp.  By 1986 her Jill became super campy.

When Jess first took over..she played the camp with a fiery anger.  I could buy her Jill teaming up with Katherine vs Nina.  Though seeing how Brenda's Jill was opposite Nina...I do wonder what might have been.

Katherine's intervention should've focused much more on seeing her strike out viciously -- the mean old crone of old having returned with cruel, cutting jabs -- and not so much the pleading, saintly Katherine. It's the acting, production, and style that saves things here. It all devolves into weirdness with the lights, the dining room doors opening into Heaven, I mean... ugh.

Seeing Rex is also a reminder of how sad and unnecessary it was to kill him off. He could still be around, 10 years later, dashing and interesting as ever.

Even in the 80s, he often (always?) sounded like he had a stuffy nose but in 2004 it was super pronounced.

OMG, lol.

When I was little I used to wonder whether he had some type of hearing impairment or at the very least, a speech impediment.  His tongue always seemed to be lolling around in his mouth.  Tricia Cast was really good with him though.  Even in Phillip's last disastrous return with a stupid cattle rushers storyline, Tricia Cast's chemistry with him even made me believe that they could be close friends and co-parents.

    • As well as insulting our host, being rude to members who correct you, and having an inflated sense of duty. While others may be able to add numerous offenses, the egocentrism to force any conversation off-topic to focus on you is the most egregious act for me.  This is light entertainment, an interactive discussion, not the shallotpeel-hour.
    • Yes, that is why. I mean, not last minute but it was not what Shapiro originally wanted. First, she tried to buy the show. Then she tried to buy the character. Meanwhile several other companies also tried to buy the show.
    • I thought I had stopped & then I saw this post from you. To be clear I said I was wrong. I have not made an attempt at any backpedaling. There is literally no place to back pedal to. I did 3 things. I deleted. i apologized. I said I was wrong, egregiously so.
    • I think bringing Dano back to OLTL as her original character Gretel/Rae was a last minute thing because P & G wouldn't let ABC use the Felicia character. So even though she had ties to OLTL from back in the day, she just didn't fit into the OLTL of the late 90s/early 00s.. nor did she really fit into the other soaps at ABC either.
    • I don't think they were the biggest factor, but I do think there's a specific style to Dano's work that wasn't helped by how pointless her character often felt (and later on the various writers clearly saw the character as a joke).
    • I think Evie came in mid 1976 after Rita broke up with Tim because she realized she was leading him on.  And Evie became upset with Rita because she didn't tell her that she had previously dated Tim before she came to town.
    • Please stop, you were wrong, and you know it, now you're trying to back pedal. You even got called out by the DAYS actors/actresses on Twitter for that sh*t. It was disgusting and vile and IMO the family should have taken action against you It was clear the general public did not know about his illness and it was NOT your place to "spill the beans" just because you run a Facebook group, period! TBH IMO @Errol should have banned you ages ago Donna
    • Who went bowling? JFP & Anna? Is there any more to this?
    • Another character driven show with interconnecting plots that make sense. I like that we go from one character, like Sarah, learning that EJ wants to buy the hospital, casually mentioning it to Xander who now has that intel. The only down today was not seeing Steve and Shawn breaking into the lab. I wonder if Dr Poofy Hair will inform EJ about Xander's call. I loved Abe talking to Chanel about losing Isaac and giving her comfort. And helping her voice her fears about Johnny. Kayla standing up to EJ is great. Kayla, freed from Ron, has been great. I am loving all her air time. And Sarah telling her that EJ must be up to something if he wants the hospital is very smart. She would probably clue in to the sepsis research being the big thing if she wasn't choking to death. I assume Felicity messed up the scones and dropped in cleaning fluid or something. Sarah said it tasted weird. They are never getting that honeymoon, are they? Xander has no clue what job Johnny can do. Johnny knows this too. Xander wants to legitimize his takeover by hiring a Dimera. Johnny wants to stick it to EJ. The honesty is refreshing. I want to like Cat and Chad but they are just so awkward. And none of their scenes work for me. Marlena and EJ was very good. I like her wanting to help him but also scared to death for Belle. Makes perfect sense that she is conflicted. I also liked her softly asking Johnny if he needed her to stay once EJ walked in. Ron never cared about this relationship either, but now she is acting like his granny.
    • Sorry, catching up, and the bolded part, yes! Should have been sued by DH's family for that nasty sh*t too   Anywho, back to the show, Kristina is freaking nuts, she needs to be committed ASAP
