Yep. WALB went on the air in 1954. It's still the flagship station of southwestern Georgia. It was the first station in the area, though on a good day the WJXT signal would carry that far. WCTV began airing in 1955.

A couple more for the night.

December 1971

Georgia stations, unless noted.

CBS affiliates WRBL (Columbus), WTVY (Dothan AL), WJXT (Jacksonville FL), WCTV (Tallahassee FL) and WMAZ (Macon) all run the same soap schedule:
Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Where the Heart Is (noon); Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendored Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WTVM (Columbus): All My Children, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.

WALB (Albany): Days of Our Lives, 2 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m., Bright Promises, 3:30 p.m.; Somerset, 4 p.m.

October 1969

It looks like the area finally got a real ABC affiliate in 1969. Primary CBS station WMAZ actually used a bit of its secondary ABC affiliation.

WRBL, WTVY, WJXT, WCTV and WMAZ all ran this schedule:
Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Where the Heart Is, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendored Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WMAZ (Macon) additionally ran Dark Shadows at 4 p.m.

WTVM (Columbus): The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.; Dark Shadows, 4 p.m.

WALB (Albany): Days of Our Lives, 2 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

Instead of Bright Promise at 3:30, WALB ran You Don't Say in that slot.

ABC

THE EDGE OF NIGHT

-- Was airing at 10:30 a.m. on WJLA, the D.C. affiliate, as of Sept. 1983. Was no longer airing as of Nov. 1984. (In 1983 and 1984, the 4 p.m. slot went to Love Connection).

-- Not airing on WJZ, the Baltimore affiliate, as of Sept. 1983 (the 4 p.m. slot went to The Love Boat).

-- Not airing on WHTM, the Harrisburg affiliate, as of Nov. 1984 (the 4 p.m. slot went to The Dukes of Hazzard).

RYAN'S HOPE

-- Airing at 11:30 on WJLA as of Nov. 1984 (so presumably it took the slot right when ABC plugged LOV into the 12:30 slot). WJLA seems to have been trying to compete with CBS and NBC's in-network game shows. The station had a games block from 9-11:30 a.m., composed of syndication shows (Tic Tac Dough, Joker's Wild, Let's Make a Deal), then Family Feud as the lead-in for Trivia Trap. In 1983, the post-GMA hours were more eclectic. The 20-Minute Workout and Richard Simmons at 9, followed by Family Feud and EON at 10, then Too Close For Comfort and LOV at 11. You'd think they'd have considered putting the two soaps together ...

-- Not airing on WJZ as of Nov. 1984 (the 12 p.m. slot went to news and the post-GMA slots, in 1983 and 1984, went to People Are Talking and Hour Magazine).

-- Was airing at 12 p.m. on WHTM as of Nov. 1984.

St. Louis, as of Friday, Sept. 27, 1996:

KMOV (CBS)

12:00: News, then B&B

1:00: ATWT

2:00: GL

3:00: Inside Edition and Rescue 911

4:00: Y&R

Do we have any Missourians reading? I wonder if Y&R had a decent amount of popularity with kids coming home from school.

KSDK (NBC)

12:00: News hour

1:00: AW

2:00: DOOL

3:00: Show Me St. Louis and Jeopardy!

4:00: Oprah

KDNL (ABC)

11:30: (Where THE CITY would have presumably aired): I Love Lucy

12:00: AMC

1:00: OLTL

2:00: GH

3:00: Ricki Lake

4:00: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Home Improvement

WQXI are the earlier call letters of WXIA, which loved deviating from the usual schedules. They did this in order to show an afternoon movie. That has been consistent with all the charts I've seen. Reruns of Love, American Style were also moved from afternoon to a morning airing to allow for this.

WTLV (Jacksonville FL) Somerset, 1 p.m., Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

Days pre-empted on March 8 for First Ladies Diaries.

WSAV (Savannah) Somerset, 1 p.m.; Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

No Days pre-emption listed on chart.

WTOC (Savannah) Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.
