When soaps had larger budgets, servants played more of a role. OLTL had Kim, Herron, Carlotta and Nigel with the latter two only sticking around because they became more than servants. Carlotta ran a diner and had a family whereas Nigel helped provide more story for Asa until Phil Carey died. GH had Jennings and his nephew Reginald joined the show after the actor playing Jennings passed away along with the characters of "Cook" who was never seen and Alice who had more story with Tracy until Bergen Williams. In later years, they added a character named Yuri but he's almost never there. GH also had Pascal who later became a butler to the character of Sidwell but he was more than a servant in that storyline, actually running an operation for Sidwell overseas before taking on the role of butler. The Newmans on Y&R had Miguel but I can't recall the last time he was seen or referenced. It does seem odd that people portrayed as wealthy on soaps seem to do a lot of stuff themselves that servants otherwise would do for them.
