One of the biggest winners on Wheel of Fortune during the 1980's. Supposedly this led Merv Griffin to the end of the shopping segment soon after. Leigh's husband Randy who appears at the end was also a contestant on the daytime version of WOF around this time and also won quite a large amount.

I wish the kids today knew about Fred Allen. They'd learn right away (as I did) that today's late-night hosts and Internet comedians can't hold a pencil or coffee mug to that man.

Of the three (or four?) classic "Barker Beauties," my favorite was Holly Hallstrom.

Holly was my favorite too.

I loved Holly too.

Don't get me wrong, though, I loved Janice, too. But she seemed more unattainable, for lack of a better word.

I also liked Janice.

Same. Janice was the elegant and classy model.

On the other hand, Dian always struck me (even as a child!) as a bimbo who'd sleep her way to the top.

Same here!

Dian as you said came across as a gold digger. She was always running around half naked.......LOL.

Yeah, Dian gave off nasty ho energy.

Daytime viewers were always looking for backstage drama and gossip of the CBS soaps, but it was sweet little Price Is Right where most of the juicy stuff was unfolding.

Hahaha, yes. TPiR backstage drama makes Y&R backstage drama look tame in comparison.

She projected a warm, friendly, girl-next-door image that reminded me so many women of her age that I saw around my hometown (OKC). Like, I could totally see her teaching at one of my old public schools, or bump into her at one of the local malls or restaurants.

Holly came across more as someone you knew or would like to know. IMO, that's the most important factor to have in someone whom you're essentially welcoming into your home five days a week.

I think Holly's appeal was that she was able to make fun of herself and didn't mind being the awkward "kid" who was constantly botching the prize presentations. The first few times, it might have been a little nerve-wracking, but once it became an endearing part of her role on the show, her getting stuck with a refrigerator that kept popping open or crashing a moped into the set was just as good as, if not better than, everything going according to plan. Janice and Dian (and Anitra) were more polished as models, but Holly leaned slightly into being an entertainer, and the others followed her lead and loosened up a little as time went on.

Holly didn't come across as glamorous and that was part of her appeal. She was relatable to the audience watching at home.

That's why it breaks my heart to see how much Bob Barker in particular has devastated Holly, both professionally and personally. If anyone deserves to have a happy ending after the way she has been treated by a horrific boss, it's Holly.

Holly proclaiming she hated Bob broke my heart for her. It's a shame she was treated so badly by Bob.

That broke my heart as well. I believe she truly enjoyed bringing fun and laughter into viewers' lives everyday - which, to me, is a very sacred thing. To have all that taken from her (and be reduced to destitution) by someone so vindictive is just so unfair. But I pray she does find peace within herself and the strength not to let it ruin the rest of her life.

It was so sad seeing Holly tear up.

And I hope she knows just how much viewers miss her to this day.

To so many TPiR fans, Holly was that girl. I hope she knows how much she is still loved.
