I didn't see this but having middle-aged actresses in the Facts of Life roles seems very desperate, a vanity project gone wrong. The show was never great, but it had genuinely likeable leads that made you care. How that becomes an excuse to trot out overexposed Jennifer Aniston (who is generally about as  funny as the clap), I don't know, but it has nothing to do with any legacy Norman Lear ever had as a producer.

The only one of the four FOL girls who was decent at all in the live show was Kathryn Hahn as Jo. Jon Stewart, Will Arnett, and Jason Bateman showed up as love interests, but it felt a bit mechanical.

It was sad to see Todd Bridges there as the last DS cast member standing.

I liked Ann Dowd as Mrs. Garrett, and it made me sad that Todd Bridges is the only original cast member still living from DS but rather an early episode than one later though. At least they did not do the episode with Dudley and the bicycle abuser. With FOL  I wasn’t spoiled about the guys, but ideally they could have gone younger instead of using a lot of people who are within a decade in age as the OG cast.

The original Facts cast had wonderful screen presence and chemistry which helped mask script problems. The new cast obviously didn’t have that. I found the re-creations embarrassing and corny, but I didn’t particularly care for the two other specials either.

Overall I enjoyed it, especially the 80s commercials. Going into it, I was expecting to like the Facts of Life episode better than Different Strokes, since I am bigger fan of the former, but I enjoyed the Different Strokes episode way better. I don't know how, but Kevin Hart playing child Arnold just worked.

The Facts of Life episode they picked wasn't all that great, they should have picked a different one. If they wanted to do the "adults play teenagers" thing they should have just had the originals do it. They already had 3 of the 4, plus Lisa and Kim look like they've barely aged.

I watched it. It was cute for what it was. Growing up, I watched Diff'rent Strokes in reruns and got into Facts of Life later. They really could've let Lisa Whelchel and Kim Fields play their own roles. Lisa looks amazing. And as for Mindy Cohn? Her recent work done to her face was certainly "fresh". Kinda hard to look at.

In the latest TV show ratings, ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience averaged 4.6 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating, down 20 and 18 percent from its December 2019 edition but still topping Tuesday in the demo.

A 20% drop over two seasons is actually not bad at all, considering how far linear TV viewing in general has dropped over the past two years. And a 0.9 demo rating is very good. I bet we’ll see another one of these (Kimmel’s initial deal was for three specials, and Facts/DS was the third).

    • I also assumed Tanquir was in Africa. Montega was in the Caribbean, more like Cuba.
    • I got the impression Andre was opening up to Dani about his feelings, that's why I thought he was about to admit he was in love with her. Dani has no idea that what's good for her is right in front of her face. Tomorrow we might get a love scene set to an R&B slow jam.
    • No, he was pining for that walking sleeping pill Ashley, and then later texted Dani for a hookup when he felt lonely. He and Dani got into it a bit as she’s not ready to be seen openly with him still, and they both realized they were hung up on other people - Andre on Ashley (thought he never said her name) and especially Dani on Bill.  Of course neither learnt anything and then proceeded to have sex again.
    • I'm glad there's a pool set if only for the eye candy. I do think they need to be careful when filming. Today, the direction was off with Kai in the pool -- it looked like he was sitting in a wading pool, and it was clear there was no depth to the water. Also, as I mentioned before, the view from those large windows looks fake as hell.
    • From my notes: San Cristobal with an “a” is from ANOTHER WORLD. Mac, Carl, their fathers, Ian Rains & his father, and Paulina had history on that equatorial island. Paulina was visiting there researching her past & fell for both Ian & Jake McKinnon! San Cristobel with an “e” is from GUIDING LIGHT and is the island kingdom where Prince Richard & Prince Edmund were from. Others with history there were Reva when she was Princess Katherine, Jonathan, Olivia, etc.
    • Schenkel was indeed a disaster.     During 1985, the following characters exited the show: Brian Bancroft, Sandy Cory, Blaine Ewing Cory, Jamie Frame, the first Peter Love, Alice Matthews Frame, Ben McKinnon, Vince McKinnon, Mark Singleton, Perry Hutchins, Grant Todd, and Tony the Tuna.   The following characters were introduced and quickly disappeared Chris Chapin, Neal Cory, Dee Evans, Daniel Gabriel, Michaud Christophe, Edward Gerard, Daphne Grimaldi, Zane Lindquist, and Brittany Peterson.   The only successful characters Schenkel introduced were Bridget Connell, Vicky Hudson, and Jake McKinnon.   Schenkel recasted the popular Sally Frame with Taylor Miller when Mary Page Keller left AW.  Also, he recasted Peter Love twice in 1985 with Christopher Holder and Marcus Smythe.   Schenkel brought back Carl Hutchins for the Egyptian/Arizona treasure story with the poisonous dust.
    • Was Andre about to use the L word with Dani?
    • Honestly, she should have went splat on the bottom since it looks only 4 feet or less.  I stopped watching by that time, but since they were in L.A. I could believe it.
    • My mistake. San Cristobal. I've seen it as Alamainia, Alamainland, and my personal favorite, Ubilam ("Malibu" spelled backwards). I was sticking to non-U.S. locations, but I suppose Aremid could have been Canadian. Ah, yes. Haiti?
    • You're very, very welcome! Nice seeing things appreciated.
