Developing: 90210 Reboot with Original Cast!

It followed pretty much the pattern of other reboots that landed on networks, the only difference that Fox didn't own this one and had no secondary source of income from it unlike let's say Will & Grace on NBC with Hulu. It was more like the Murphy Brown reboot in that sense that there was little incentive for Fox to keep it on as they wouldn't be a part of the other profit it generates.

I really think a real reboot would've gone the same way when put on Fox. I think CBS All Access would've been a decent option for it as it rated well in the 35-50 age bracket which would probably be "young" and appealing to them, lol.

Then those people cant read. Every article and even video interview said they were playing fictionalized versions of themselves as they try to do a reboot. It was stated and restated. So I dont have symphany for fans who cried over that.

The idea of a CW reboot was smart, but I wish it was written by people who liked the original. As bad as nuDynasty has gotten, I appreciate that the writers clearly know the original and throw in lots of easter eggs when they really don't have to. CW totally botched it. Mentioning Hannah Zuckerman but not actually including her or Andrea in the cast? Stupid. Bringing back Kelly was smart, but the handling of Dylan was horrible. The new Walsh family also sucked and they did a horrible job with Brenda's return. Still, I understand why they made it.

Now with a continuation, especially on CBS All Access, you can't tell me it wouldn't have gone on for years. It literally could've been the Knots Landing/Desperate Housewives of this generation. Those characters were ripe for a reboot and considering Tori really needs money, she's stupid for not pursuing one. I also feel like Melrose Place is a series I'd consider revisiting. Maybe not set at the complex due to their ages, but something in LA with those characters. I just feel like because these are soaps people don't take those ideas seriously, but they're missing out.

I'm calling B.S. on that.  Fox canceled it, because it wasn't what anybody had expected, or was hoping for, so they fled.  End of story.

Fox's statement is exactly what I would expect and tells me that they saw this the same way we did from the very beginning. Tori and the cast saw this as something that could last for a long time whereas the network was like "This is a cute little thing to do for a little while." They went into it with the mindset that it was a limited series event, and I have to applaud them for that. Sucks for the cast, but they have to accept that their audience wants to see them as those characters.

I wonder if there was ever any clear communication between Tori and the network in regards to the sustainability of this project.

    • I'm pretty sure this ep is  from Dec 73 From the Daytime Serial Newsletter Ian and Valerie Northcote are deeply concerned over Laurie's  life being increasingly dominated by hallucinations and fantasies about Georgina, the former owner of the house the Reddins recently bought and are now living in. Doreen Post (Linda Purl) was involved in that story .Perhaps she was going to be revealed as Georgina's daughter? Wonder how that story evolved and whether it was wrapped up before cancellation? and thanks to @skylark

    • Many thanks to @skylark and @DRW50!
    • Thank u so much! I love that show and the more I see of it the more I want to find more of it even if it’s just in script form. But that house and especially the room looked like Victoria Winters room from dark shadows lol  this was great find! Thanks
    • I genuinely thought when they said she had been throwing up, we were going to get a pregnancy story. I’m actually not convinced we aren’t. Especially the way she and Doug danced around her own infidelity.
    • Shouldn't it be the other way? I don't think Taylor Hayes is playing Rebecca Budig.

    • And the most detailed discussion I've seen from an industry figure about some of JFP's worst choices as a producer (steamrolling over writers) was from another woman, Megan McTavish.
    • IMDb is definitely incorrect, because the final week of episodes in 1974 is uploaded to Youtube in audio form, and Mark and Laurie are there until the very end. The last episode shows Mark going back to the priesthood. I looked at the newspaper and the earliest reference to their house being haunted by Georgina is in December of 1973. This is dated Dec 14, but this same synopsis ran in the papers until the end of December in other publications. So it must have been within those last 3-4 months. I think Stephanie Braxton joined around 1969-1970 so that's probably right. I saw it stated in other newspapers that David Gale joined around September 1972.

    • Opal having siblings could add to the story. However, it raises questions about Tad's adoption. Why were the Martins allowed to adopt him if Tad had aunts or uncles who could have cared for him?  Logic limited the number of possible Gardner's (and whatever Opal's maiden name was).  Even though Linda Thorson would have been a hysterical choice given her British accent.  Especially because SOD often published questions by readers who wondered why Tad and Jenny didn't speak like their mother.   All of which is still not an excuse for Tad's evil doppelgänger Ted.
