I've known this all along since Griffin debuted but today and yesterday's episodes are a painful confirmation of how limited Matt Cohen's acting skills are. He was terrible! Fake crying with no tears and the obnoxious confused face he always makes.

Maura West, on the other hand, continues to prove there's nothing she can't do. She is always dangerously close to being over the top, and yet, makes every breath and word she utters feel realistic. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Her scene today over Kiki's body bag was absolutely gut-wrenching and awfully painful to watch.

To be honest, I think it's a testament to how brilliant Maura is that anyone cares about Ava at all. Even though I detested her recent actions against Kiki and felt they weren't mother-ly in the slightest, I couldn't help but feel devastated for her after her performance. That's what a great actor does - makes you feel every possible conflicting emotion for their character and constantly keep you on the edge of your seat to see what they're going to do next, and Maura has all of that in spades.

+3. Maura and Jon Lindstrom are basically why I tune into GH these days. They are effortlessly good, they draw me in and they make the writing work/somehow palatable. That is no mean feat. JL may not be some toned, 8-packed twink, but I literally have starry eyes watching him. His voice, his presence, his on-screen magnetism takes me right back to Santa Barbara when he played Mary McCormick's abusive husband, and he literally popped off the screen alongside some other gold-star actors on that show.

As for Maura, she is the undisputed star of the show (of Daytime, really, now that Eileen Davidson has left) as far as I'm concerned. Her scenes are always compelling to watch, and especially yesterday's. It's not often that Daytime affects me anymore, but work like she put in yesterday does.

    • I love your ideas. I would love to see Jack grown up this confused unhinged individual. He should hold a grudge against both Brooke and Taylor.

    • Lois's return has been a bust. So disappointing that the writers have never written for her. As with Tracy, the pool of GH vets is so thin, there's no one to pair her with. Doubtful they would go to the trouble of properly recasting a legacy character and then sticking  him with Lois; they're obviously not that invested. If she wants to be on this show, it'll be as a noisy grandma who stays in the background.
    • I love me some Anita and TT. They need to give her a good storyline and I know that it's coming.
    • @Franko Thanks for tagging me. A few days ago I was talking in another thread about the rise of "snarky" critics for TV shows in the '90s online recaps, but this is just more along the lines of a mauling. There's also the unspoken reality that films like Steel Magnolias were seen as movies for women, so therefore they sucked. Pauline Kael also had her share of blunt, at times incredibly nasty remarks, but the vitriol is often balanced by her love for film. I'm not seeing that here.  With that said, the comment about Field's work becoming unbearable describes how I felt when I tried to sit through her and Maura Tierney on ER.
    • I skipped most of Daniel too. I think it's awful he has kids with Nicole, Csrky5 and Chloe and Brady, Bo and Philip do not.

    • Today was very focused on Bo and his illness.  I’m liking how everything is ultimately tied together, even though everybody doesn’t know it yet. The EJ connection seems a little sudden and random though. I’m guessing that that was not on Ron’s agenda. And I’m not really sure why any of these rich people couldn’t help the hospital months ago lol  But I really like how the whole sepsis drug thing is being written a lot more realistically than what we’ve grown accustomed to with Dr. Rolf and all of his wonder drugs. They’re definitely putting more of an effort into this storyline. It feels more real.  Philip was a little whiny and self-pitying today, but I also feel like the writing has improved for him as well. He’s coming off less like a villain and more like a tragic hero. I enjoyed his scene with Stephanie and hopefully it means that at some point, we’ll get a revival of Philip/ Stephanie/Alex. Tying it to Stephanie’s novel could be really good. And, the dorkiness of Xander and Sarah was really sweet too. I’m looking forward to their weekend together and what secrets may or may not come out lol
    • "And I also want to flirt with every woman that comes my way... but then beat up anyone who talks to my wife. BECAUSE I'M A MAAAAAAAAAAAN." Give me a break with your ugly baby paintings... You're in the same category of the hacks that sell paintings with a single dot for thousands or even millions of dollars.
