Dina has been on less than a year and we've hardly got to enjoy her as a force before we are seeing her health decline and it's  a very sharp slide.

That's my main criticism of this storyline as well.

She was just on for the non-event of Ashley's paternity reveal. But then she was dropped again. I don't get it. Her absence is glaring, especially when they use her here and there but then when I think they really need her, she's nowhere around.

It's the same with Jill & Lauren. It doesn't make sense.

It doesn't. Except that they're women above a certain age.

It really is odd not to include Traci when she was the one that noticed something off waaay before the rest of the family back at that dinner Ashley invited Dina to.

I don't mind social issues storylines. But for me, personally, as someone who's grandmother had dementia, I'd rather not see any type of this kind of story play out on-screen. I know many feel otherwise. If it's not being done justice then don't do it.

ITA - but I'm not sure how 'justice' even plays out here. MY has taken a vibrant, smart character played by a class A actor and what? We see Dina struggling and her family crying and being all depressed around the holiday as their mother loses it? What's the gain here? I'm sorry but a PSA an Alzheimer's doesn't do it for.

Honestly, it's just as bad as what SSM did to Jill earlier this year. And we know the backgrounds are different, but Jill/Dina are far more similar than different.

Y&R has always had social stories, it just sucks that Marla Adams has to be the one who plays it out.

Comments in here once again all negative. Story has just started. For months people grew tired of Dina/Graham secret, now it's too rushed, no one is ever satisfied on here. When Alzheimers happens, there is no perfect timing, and many have assumed she had this since that dinner with Traci.

What?

The story hasn't just started. It's been going on since Marla Adams returned. It was obvious from jump that Dina was gonna be given some ailment, hence the reason Graham was latched onto her. People feel that the story is sh-t b/c it is. Instead of the story being about the Abbotts, it was about Graham. That character was not needed at all. This story has skipped over so many potential beats too. As others pointed out, if they wanted to do a proper Alzheimer story, the should've looked at Mac's story on ATWT. It was done beautifully and played out for years. We saw him slowly succumb to the disease and watched in agony as he had dips in the road from dealing with his disease.

The revelation that she has Alzheimers was just revealed to the audience. That's great that ATWT had such a story, but that was a different time. Who knows the behind the scenes stuff today. Look how quick SS came and left. How long does Marla Adams want to be on the show? If people don't want an Alzheimers story, do you really think they would now accept a long out drawn one over years? Probably not. And Dina was diagnosed a year ago. Alzheimers progression varies, it can take years, and for others it can happen rapidly.

The revelation just occurred but it was obvious from jump that Dina was ill with something. It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure that out.

It doesn't matter about the time the ATWT's story came out. Hell, it came out when Alzheimer had less info than now, yet the handled the story better. Y&R has all the info in the world and still handles the story poorly. This story is more about plot and shock value than it is about character.

The amount of time Marla has been back has been enough to tell a reasonable story centered around the Abbotts.

Hopefully the story gets better from here out, I hope. It would be a damn, insulting shame to have Young end up doing the same thing to Dina that Brad Bell did to Beth Logan on B&B several years ago.

Cancel it and put on a Game Show.  When World Turns and Guiding Light were canceled, people on these boards said - CBS DAYTIME will BE STRONGER THAN EVER!  Yep, you're stronger than ever.  This show - He's gone the Alzheimer's route.  Maybe Graham will end up being a Doctor that lives in Salem that comes up with a cure for Alzheimers that Stefano Dimera figured out and engineered and worked with Victor Newman to create the cure.  Then a weather machine sent it to Genoa City from Port Charles.

Real soaps ended in the 80's when you started eating that like brownies.  Add 2 hours of Let's Make A Deal, and Price is Right and END this.

Yep...MY's idea. Under SSM's writing, it was a slow burn, but everyone knew something was up with Dina. And yes, I remember that dinner with Traci.
