In a way, seeing how awful Joss really is breaks my heart, because his dad, Tom Whedon, happens to be one of my all-time favorite sitcom writers.  The elder Whedon's work was always so smart, regardless of the shows he was working on.  But now I have to wonder wtf did he do to his son for him to turn out like that.

I know I'm going to read that article myself eventually but I'm not looking forward to it.

While I'm still a fan of the work, yeah I'm cannot believe how oblivious he is. Then again, a person who would let an article like that be released on MLK Day screams tone deaf. Especially in these times. The irony that he has become a dinosaur in today's tv culture where he was once the trendsetter is not lost on me.

Oh, well...at least I still have Pierce Brown and FARSCAPE to inspire me.

It is disgusting to me that Billy Bush still treats this incident as if he was the victim and not Arianne Zucker.  Has he ever publicly offered her an apology?  Has he ever promoted her career on one of his shows?  Has he ever interviewed her on how she coped with the humiliation of trying to do her job while two grown men giggled behind her back saying they would "grab her by the !@#$%^&*]"?  After all, Billy Bush got 10 million dollars and then bounced right back to a new show, while many still don't know Ms. Zucker's name.

Researched it, six years, 10 million dollars, and one NY Times op-ed piece, "Bushy" has never offered an apology to Ms. Zucker

From NY Magazine

Put yourself in the shoes of Zucker, who now knows Bush’s on-camera attempt to get Trump and Zucker to kiss was preceded moments before by Trump telling Bush about how he grabs women by their genitals. If you were Zucker, the audio tape might sting a bit less if Bush acknowledged that you weren’t just a body to be objectified but a successful actress with a hugely loyal fan base.

Since this has been put in this thread for awhile, I thought it should go here - some excerpts from the new Evan Ross Katz BTVS oral history floating around, particularly re: the BTS drama. It does deal with the Whedon of it all as well. Most of the actors seem to sympathize with Sarah Michelle Gellar being used as a target by Whedon and/or the higher-ups to stir up aggression. (Alyson Hannigan and David Boreanaz declined to be interviewed.) I'm not using direct quotes because these are all from press coverage. @DRW50 @Khan

Emma Caulfield (Anya):

"She was the lead on the show. It was an ensemble cast, absolutely, but the show lived and died with her. There's a level of power there and a level of voice that needs to be accounted for. And if that isn't received well by certain people who have very large egos and who have no interest in working in that fashion, then yeah, there's going to be conflict. [....] There are so many examples of what happened from the top down of, 'This will really make the girls hate each other. This will make the men angry. This is going to stir some toxic [!@#$%^&*].' And … and it did."

Julie Benz (Darla):

"It's just that she was a woman, a young woman, and there was a lack of respect towards her with her knowledge and experience because she was female and because she was young." Benz also noted that while the tension "was all kinda high school" at the time, convention appearances and the public reckoning on Whedon has brought the women close together.

Amber Benson (Tara):

"It starts at the top—and I'm not talking about Sarah, I'm talking about Joss. And it creates the tone of the set," added Benson in the book. "And I think because this was Joss's first show, there were things that got dropped ...you could just feel like people weren't sure of their place. And I think it is the boss's job to make everybody understand where they are in the hierarchy and how they fit in and that they are necessary, you know?"

SMG:

"Look, we worked really hard hours. We were young, we had ups and downs. Everybody had arguments," she continued. "There were times where David [Boreanaz] could be a handful. He never really was to me, but I'm sure [he was]. And I'm sure I was the same way to people also, right? It wasn’t rosy. Nobody gets along all the time. And Alyson [Hannigan] and I had moments. There's no question. But you're young."

Gellar said that while she tries to avoid celebrity gossip, she had heard the rumors of tension behind the scenes and admitted she "had a lot on my shoulders" at the time.

"And I'm not excusing myself either. There are times where I wish I could have done things differently, but I didn't know how to handle the stress that I was under," she continued. "I was really young and I didn't have any outside life. I was the one that was always working and sometimes I would be resentful of the fact that they didn't have to work all the time. It ebbs and flows, and anyone that tells you that they get along with everyone all the time, it's just not true."

Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia):

"I was let know how it was [!@#$%^&*] everything up for [Season 4, with her pregnancy].

Danny Strong (Jonathan):

“I think that this mentality that we’re seeing in [Whedon] is kind of like this high school nerd who’s angry that the pretty girls didn’t like him and he gets older and he’s gonna lash out at the pretty girls or hook up with some of the pretty girls, and the pretty girls that don’t want to hook up with him he’s going to lash out at them in some way or turn other girls against them."

That will definitely be a nice read over my morning coffee so thank you on that.

Though I continue to feel a way about Alexis and Alyson not commenting still.

This is a sad piece of news, as I've always admired Langella's work and I love Mike Flanagan's as well, and I was looking forward to seeing Langella work with him. More admirable, though, that Flanagan acted so quickly.
