November 24, 201510 yr Member No matter what kind of dreck he was handed, Canary made it work. Absolutely. He also had amazing chemistry with so many of his onscreen love interests: Susan Lucci, Julia Barr, Marcy Walker -- you name it. But, more than anything else, he was a terrific performer and true daytime legend. R.I.P. Mr. Canary. You will be missed.
November 25, 201510 yr Member "David Canary" is one of the top trends on Twitter right now. I remember how many times I had to remind myself that Adam and Stuart were in fact played by one person. He made it look so easy. And when he would play one twin pretending to be the other, that's when you could see just how much he put into both of them. This really is true. He gave wonderful performances as both men, yet for the most part managed to make them different, but not too different. He also never relied on props or easy gimmicks. He was an incredible actor - even with 5 Emmys I'd say he was underrated. He worked well as heel, antihero, comic relief, and romantic lead. It's hard to think of a woman he DIDN'T have chemistry with, really. I think my favorite of all his pairings was Stuart and Marian - he and Jennifer Bassey were just sublime. Stuart was one of my very favorite soap characters of all time. I just loved him and everything he added to the canvas of Pine Valley - heart, humility, community, dignity. I'm so glad that Canary got to play both brothers one last time, as it always should have been. And I loved his relationships with Adam's kids. I still remember the scenes with Carrie Genzel's Skye when Adam disowned her, and Stuart comforted her in her devastation. Same actor, totally different moods, layers, beats, and chemistry with her. I also remember the scene where Hayley couldn't marry Mateo because of being raped by Tanner Jordan, when Adam went to check on her before the walk down the aisle, and she was so fragile, shaking, crying. Adam was so tender with her...Canary, unlike some soap actors, was not afraid to play this, was not afraid to be seen as "weak." I have so many wonderful memories of David Canary, which seems callous to say in light of his Alzheimer's, but it's true. Above all else I will remember his big beautiful smile...and I hope Stuart was there to welcome him into a new life. Beautifully put!
November 25, 201510 yr Member Wow, this one is a true shock! May he RIP. Mr. Canary was a terrific actor.
November 25, 201510 yr Member Sad News!! I only watched a handful of AMC but know he was one of the show's icon's... RIP!
November 25, 201510 yr Member A few others. I don't know if Lauren Holly ever says that much about her time on AMC so I was glad to see this.
November 25, 201510 yr Member Alzheimers is a truly horrible way to go. I am glad he has escaped it, and this is a gift to him and his family. DC was simply the best, and I loved his scenes with Susan Lucci and James Mitchell. They were his best co-stars I think. Really sorry to hear this and such a shock too.
November 25, 201510 yr Member I saw a nice tweet from who I'm assuming is Felicia Minei Behr's daughter. It warms my heart to see so many AMC-affiliated people share their feelings about this remarkable man. He was in such fine form just two and a half years ago on the new series.
