GH: Vet bumped to recurring

Just another example of Ron putting aside a consistent fan favorite to pay for and prop "his" cast. Just because an actor is from another show doesn't mean we want them here. "His" General Hospital is further and further away from the show most of us have enjoyed for decades. I understand that every show eventually needs to bring in new blood, but Cartini's GH is like the land of Misfit Toys..."Your show won't pay to keep you, we will, at the expense of the actors and actresses that have entertained us for years.

He has dumbed down Anna and Tracey to the point of.... his PopUp appearances of vets is only to show they are around, once a month.

Why is it so difficult to mine characters backstories and keep these characters relevant, rather than OVEREXPOSE a bunch of characters that the audience has no reason to care for?

The fact that most of the action in many characters stories happens off screen shows that Cartini don't care about the fans. Their need to use POP CULTURE references to show us how clever they are has gotten over used, and just plain annoying.

THANKS A LOT RON!!!!!!!!!!!!mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif !

Now, JJY is off contract, yet Killer Griller Filler Miller will be on non stop until until it's time to prop their next flavor of the month, and we lose yet another favorite to once[if that] a month appearances

When i saw the subject line about a VET, my first thought was Monica. Although i don't know if she is recurring or a regular. Lord knows we haven't seen much of her in the past maybe 10 (or more) years. Not since they had a producer who decided to kill off Quatermains. I know she's on a little more now but not like before.

They even missed a perfect opportunity with the whole first date thing but they just used her to feul the Maxie Jones storyline. I thought that was sad. As she said, it was her first date since the first Bush administration when she and Alan were breifly divorced. But i guess we should be happy to see her in any kind of screen time.

Sory to hear about John J York, but if you had asked me yesterday, i would have already said he was a recurring character considering he hasn't really been "front burner" in years.

Yeah, she's been off contract since 2010 if I'm recalling it correctly. When Garin Wolf was HW back in 2011 he brought LC back in a more prominent capacity and it sort of stuck for her.

Frank Valentini, for all that can be said about him, is very accustomed to working with difficult people. I'm sure whatever LC told him off about was a drop in the bucket compared to what he's dealt with before.

    • Have to agree re MM. The goody two shoes character and writing doesn't help but maybe a more dynamic actor would help Brandon lift his game also. I found the song sequence a little OTT. First of all it should have been shorter and maybe the song fades out and just some music to accompany the montage. I think it would have worked better if Anita had have been alone after everyone left and started tinkling leading into the song, with Vernon coming in observing and then joining her for  a close moment. Everyone standing around felt a little too much.

    • And sadly I think that’s the trivia Both Jeanne Cooper and Eric Braeden went with for years and years. Lol
    • But people were hating so bad on amc and the final year and the ratings sucked. Business wise they made the right call. Oltl who even gained some ratings back and weren’t they higher as GH at one point is a decision and never understood.
    • Ann Williams was the first Maggie Powers on The Doctors but left to have a baby. Maggie was successfully recast so Ann picked up the role of Eunice (Jo's sister on Search for Tomorrow) and played that role for 10 years before being killed of in 1976. That led to her role of Margo on EON.
    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
    • I think someone said it did exist, but I can't remember.
    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
