The scene with Cookie/Andre and Andre/Lucious were  the best things about the entire episode. We got a sense as to why Lucious feels distant from Andre and does trust him as his own mother was bipolar. And seeing Cookie plead with Andre stay on her side nearly brought me to tears.

I can do without all the cameos and extra characters. The Lyons clan alone is dynamic enough to stir drama that outsiders are not needed.

I can't believe that people were complaining about the first scene in episode 1 and the "political stuff". This type of writing is what sets Empire apart. That was timely and relevant. Fearless from the writers. You just don't see this kind of stuff on scripted series. I see it as no different than when Lucious had to go on TV and explain himself. No different than him defending rap music. Or Lucious telling Andre that no matter what education he has or how many white women he marries he's still black.  That's Empire. Always has been.

I'm so disappointed in the writing for Jamal. How he treated Lawrence and Michael saying he doesn't like "guys like that". Mr 'I want  to be accepted" cant accept others. Then him choosing the man who put him in a trash can over the woman who rescued him. They are destroying this character slowly. I don't like it.

I'm loving them delving into Lucious issues with Andre. Not sure I get his distance considering his mother was bipolar but I'm sure they'll cone up with something. Trai Byers did an amazing job tonight. He makes  Andre compelling.

I miss Tikeem. Never thought I'd say that.

I like the premise of warring family companies. Matriarch vs patriarch. All these divided loyalties. But at the end of the day they are family and love each other. Lucious might be put out with Cookie but he still loves her. Cookie might be mad at Jamal but she still loves him.

It was a good episode and it calmed down in pace.

But Lyon Dynasty? Oh Lee Daniels, just give Dame Joan Collins a cameo wearing a big mink coat (maybe as a tabloid editor?) and let she and Cookie nod at each other and acknowledge the tribute.

I have been waiting for an eppy like last night's for quite some time.  Our prayers have been answered.  A million things didn't happen last night and they focused on one story.

Luscious is such a delicious villain.  I love him so much!  Can't wait for next week.

Bring in Joan Collins, please, as Rhonda's Gram!!!!!

"I don't care how good she is, I don't trust her ass!" Cookie always says something hilarious. I like that Anika has ended up on Cookie's team, even though both them would prefer not to work together.

Andre has burned one bridge too many now. I liked that flashback scene with Lucious' mother and how we know she was bipolar as well. Last season, it was stated that the Nation of Islam killed his father, so I hope we find more about that this season. The young Lucious was quite fair skinned, whereas his mother was not, so could it be possible that his father was white? I'm hoping for more flashbacks.

I'm not one of those fans that thinks every episode needs to be on ten but last nights episode was boring. I don't ever want to hear Lucious rap again. That song was atrocious!!!

I only enjoyed the first segment.

Empire plumetted to a 5.4 in the 18-49 demos. Get the cancelation police. Empire to be replaced with Minority Report reruns!

The best part of yesterday episode is that they want to start their own company. To me their company had everything there they got Andre who the business side. Hakeem the artist, also he wanting to find people. Cookie  being the producer, we know she can do it. & Anika who is the PR person.

Jamal is a little bitch. I hate the way he treats Cookie and forgets how she was his biggest supporter

Lucious is the devil incarnate. I cant beleive he treated Andrew the way he did after he had that breakdown last season. Like really?

    • Ted has been icky and giving off bad guy vibe from the first moment I saw him. I have a sensor for that and it was beeping! So...don't put all the blame on Silkpress. The woman needs a good psychiatrist, true... but Leslie is just one of the skeletons in HIS closet. Ted is even a bigger monster, because he's hidden.  IT WAS A PERFECT REVEAL. Perfect, because in the beginning of the show... Dani was envying her sister's marriage... In these first few messy weeks... her own misery and life spiraling was contrasted to the picture-perfect marriage Nicole and Ted seemed to have. (on first glance). What happened now... is very very smart writing. THIS IS THE MOMENT THE MASKS ARE FALLING! The message it delivers to me is this. It says - no matter how things look... they are not what they seem. You can't judge a marriage by how it appears to be. Aaaand in the long run... maybe the messiest-looking people (Dani Dupree, I'm talking about you!) HAVE less issues and problems than the ones that seem to have it all. The ones with the MOST skeletons in the closets and the dirty pasts.   It was an AHA moment for the whole family and the viewers and a way forward for Dani and Nicole to bond even more and realize they are MORE alike than they are different. Now it will be quite a different dynamic, because Dani will have to SUPPORT someone and not be the one getting her wounds licked always. And also another lesson. Some men are dogs. Not all of them. But a lot of them are. The difference is... some can't be easily recognized. These creeps have put very impressive masks. The show is doing this perfectly. Beat by beat. Exploring classic soap opera themes and stories. Real-life characters and situations, that are relatable and make you think... Hmm... maybe I need to dig a little deeper next time I say "these people are perfect" or otherwise. Maybe I need to think MORE. That type of storytelling. It's not easy to do that.  Brava BTG.  B-R-A-V-A!
    • I speculate that Nicole will go through cycles of numbness/grief/rage.  At some point later on, regardless of DNA results (or faked results), whether there was a baby swap or not, I think Nicole will forgive Eva, and eventually love her someday.  Nicole will come to understand that Leslie gaslighted/manipulated Eva.  Nicole will be her loving self, although more guarded than before.   Just my thoughts.
    • Lol. That comment was just silly.  I feel like The Guiding Light started it when they made me love Roger Thorpe. Leslie is pussycat in comparison and there is a lot of story to go  for her and Eva.
    • Your posts continue to amuse me. I don't know anyone else who thinks Leslie and Eva should "hightail it out of town."  And listen, soaps have been FOR DECADES keeping around villains who we know would be jailed in real life. So is it crazy to think "they are just going to let this slide"? No. It's kind of hilarious to watch you take everything that happens on this show and distort it or lead me to think, "Huh???"
    • I can't even count the amount of magazine covers and photoshoots KKL has been in the past few months. Shame that the show is not mirroring the success she's having. It would have been so great to see both KKL and Brooke be on top.  I'm still holding a grudge that Brad rewrote the company take-over to a nothing... and then nulled Brooke to being a romance beggar again.
    • I'm also getting an error that I haven't seen before, but there's been a couple of different variations, so not going to worry about it for now.
    • Finally got to sit down and watch. Wow!  When LesDanLuAnn said to Ted, this your daughter. I started tearing up...... Eva got me.  I felt like I was watching a soap opera.

    • The drag was when Tad and Edmund went to Budapest (?) in 1997 to get Maddie back from Dimitri.
