Cady sucks as Kelly, pure and simple. She is too perky and doesn't seem to carry that backstory well. I always thought it could go really right or really left when they cast her and it's gone all the way left. They need to just go ahead and write her off at this point. If they do want to salvage the character they need to give up on her as Jack's love interest. I wish they'd bring Nina back and attempt something like that for her. She had such sparkle in her last return, but they rarely gave her worthwhile stuff to do.

Yes. They need to get her away from Jack. This Vivaldi romance is way too pretentious for the Kelly character backstory. They might want to try her with Neil. If I were writing it, I would have her be the only daughter of some small business owner. Have his health begin to suffer because he is so worried about losing what he has worked for all his life. Kelly is also very concerned because "he is all she has left after her son". Let her enlist the help of Neil to assist her father. Let Neil, Kelly, Lily (Devon, too, under the guise of him liking Kelly and her being a good friend to Lily when she needed one) help grow that business and make it a success AFTER SEVERAL FAILURES ( to give the viewers something to root for. No instant success.). And let it happen without the help of Devon's billions because the daddy is too proud to take money from him. Neil and Kelly fall for each other along the way.

The writers obviously have no idea who they want Kelly Andrews to be. Her personality changes daily, and Cady isn't even on contract, so they could drop her if the reception is bad.

Yep! They are not clear, and Cady is not clear on who this woman is. Her scenes with PB are coming off very badly! Corny as hell too!

Nina as anyone's love interest just never works for me.

I'm alone. I like Kelly and Jack, but I'm sure they're just rushing to set them up before Phyliss comes out of the coma. They're not the story.

Here's what I think: either Y&R will cut their losses soon and let Cady and Kelly go, or they will recast again (most likely, with some FOJ). And when they still can't make Jack/Kelly happen (b/c no one will ever recognize the fact that Peter Bergman shares chemistry with absolutely no one...except, maybe, Taylor Miller) then Jack will do something stupid (like sleep with Sharon or the re-awakened/recast Phyllis) and Kelly will attempt to hold onto him by making it seem Patty Williams is back and trying to kill her (thus making a brief re-appearance from Stacy Haiduk as Patty Jane and Emily necessary) until Kelly's plan is exposed and she is forced to leave GC in shame.

Oh, and the secret she shares w/ Stitch will be long forgotten, too.

Yeah, I love Cady, but when she slips into the giggly girl thing, it just annoys me. (She had this habit on ATWT.) I wish she would just channel Rosanna again - a bit tougher and less soft and girly. She's too old for the ingenue! ITA - the problem is Jack. I'm sorry the man just isn't a romantic lead no matter how many times they try. I'm all for the vets (and NO show has ever done a better job of keeping vets on the frontburner because there are so many of them). The character is clearly a placeholder for Phyllis return. However, once the secret is out, what future do Jack/Phyllis really have? They will clearly return to Sharon/Nick/Phyllis, which with the right actor, can work.

Nina had her share of good romances. I think they should've kept Phillip straight and put her back with him. They had strong chemistry. I also feel she would work well with Neil, if written correctly. I hated that they never played on any of Nina's past. Here she's a writer, yet didn't work for Restless Style. She and Victoria have tons of history and are rivals, yet they never have one scene together. Her return made no sense, especially ruining a 20 year friendship with Cricket to put her in a chemistry void pairing with Paul.

Just watching 5/12 episode. So Nick suggests that the "secret" was that she burned down the Newman Ranch.....if that's the secret then that has to be the worst kept secret in history since everyone including the authorities know that Sharon was the one who did it. Dumb writing....or dumb characters.

Plotholes like this make me want to stop watching altogether.

I still can't with that "Phillip is gay" business. It was bad enough that he had faked his death, but back from the dead and out of the closet? And what did these revelations really do for the show besides undo the Cane-is-Jill's-son mess?

What do you want to bet, too, we'll find out Sharon only imagined messing with the paternity tests on account of her bipolar disorder? Anything to get her ass off the hook and back on top of Nick's penis, right, Y&R?

Yep!

But to be fair: it took Cynthia Watros more than 4 months to make this train wreck character slightly work, so we shouldn't be too harsh on NuKelly. But the character is very disposable...

The only reason the Kelly character was expanded was due to Cynthia Watros' acting, not due to the writers actually writing an interesting character.. No wonder Cady is having trouble playing the character. The character was basically given life by Watros, not the writers. Cady should have tried mirroring how Watros played the character then gradually morphed the character into her vision.

I agree Soaplovers. I wish that Cady would've studied Cynthia's later episodes to try and keep the character consistent with how she left it but I also think the writing has deliberately accelerated to kick Jack and Kelly's 'relationship' into high gear and it hasn't done anything good for these characters-- it's just made the story seem disjointed. And the story & couple has definitely become lackluster now that Kelly has lost all her edge and is so perky all the time. It's as if Kelly has been stripped of all her complexity and has been distilled to the simplest and most basic of components.

But the character is very disposable...

Kelly is disposable, IMO, because all she really is is a backstory and a keeper of a secret that is still TBD. She brings nothing to the canvas that isn't there already or couldn't be fulfilled with other, more established females. Which is why I'm for either bringing out the secret now, no matter how lame, or just dropping the whole "mystery" and giving Kelly the heave-ho. (Don't worry 'bout Cady, she'll land a recurring gig on some CBS procedural.)

I guess I just can't see it. Nina was always dowdy and sort of insecure and needy and the question was never if she would be dumped for a more attractive woman, but when.
