Well not the WHOLE cast ... Dan Lauria was apparently filming or had something else scheduled.

There's a picture of them around the recreated kitchen set and includes him.

They've all aged VERY well. And OMG. I can't believe someone commented on instagram "too bad dan isn't still with us". Um. He is.

The opening credits remind me so much of Family Matters.
Was Josh Taylor doing double duty on Days and the NBC run of The Hogan Family?

Howard McGillan might have worked as Greg if given the chance, but as we said Bill was losing interest .
Greg could have shown an interest in Ashley. That would have been interesting as Jack would be against his sis involved with Jill's brother. Or Greg could have been involved with Traci in a more friendly type mentor relationship a la Brock and Nikki. Again Jack would have been wary.
And Greg might have still been apart of Nikki's life in some way.
There was mileage there and Liz of course should have stayed on. Her being a friend of Mary would have been viable.

I'm surprised John Conboy didn't snap him up, lol!
Gregory Harrison would've been an interesting choice for a Greg recast. I think he would've fit in well, both with the Y&R of the '70's, and with the '80's, too.
And for sure, if James Houghton had stuck around, he might've looked fantastic next to MTS, although I think a big problem with him, both on Y&R and away from it, was an inability to connect with most of his female co-stars.

Primetime Soaps

I was incorrect re AITF/Maude as lead ins for Executive Suite.
The Monday 9-10 shows were Maude and All's Fair with Richard Crenna and Bernadette Peters.
AITF was moved to Wed @9 that season and teamed with newbie Alice.
Executive Suite was moved to Fri in late January with Sonny & Cher as the lead in. These 2 replaced the Friday Movie.
CBS introduced a raft of changes mid season as ABC asserted itself. Sonny& Cher/ES faced ABC TV movies and Rockford Files/Quincy and came in 3rd.
After a few episodes ES was off and the James Franciscus/Linda Evans series 'Hunter' took over at 10.

Bell was pretty much over the Foster/Brooks with the recasts and the final nail in the coffin was Jaime Lyn Bauer's exit. I don't think Hasselhoff was all that great as Snapper. By 1980 he was ready to bolt and there were long stretches where he was off the canvas chasing after TV pilots.
It would have been interesting see how Houghton's Greg would have paired with MTS Nikki. They would have made an attractive couple onscreen and on magazines. They may have been Y&R version of GH's Laura & Scotty circa 1979.
As for recasts, I could see someone like Gregory Harrison in the role if he hadn't gone to primetime. Harrison and Richard Shoberg (AMC) had a similar look.
Olympic Swimmer Mark Spitz was trying to become an actor in the 70's, maybe they should have offered him the role of Greg. Even though he had no acting talent, he would have been better than Wings Hauser.......LOL

Yep, lol.
Forgot to mention: Josh Taylor's casting as the Hogans' dad was a big WTF for me, too, @soapfan770 . But, if you really think about it, a lot of the casting of the family doesn't make sense. I could see Valerie Harper as mom to Danny Ponce and Jeremy Licht, but not Jason Bateman (proof that Rhoda once married a gentile, lol). And while it was a stretch to see JT playing dad to Bateman, it was an even bigger stretch to see him as Valerie's husband or dad to those twins.
Again, Sandy Duncan's really the saving grace here. Her easy, natural rapport with all the Hogan men helps to sell them as a family unit, IMO.

Good Lord.
It's one thing to tie tree branches to music stands and CALL them trees, as they did when Irene kidnapped Patti and everyone in Henderson was looking for the child, but outer space? How in the world was SFT, a low-rated show that never had an exorbitant amount of money to spend on anything, going to pull off Travis [!@#$%^&*] Sentell in outer space? I mean, that's the kind of crap that would've looked hokey on "Hart to Hart," let alone a daytime soap.
God bless Don Chastain for thinking outside the old box, but he just didn't have a clue.

I think I only watched a bit of season 1 of Jackson's Wharf, which wasn't terrible but wasn't my cup of tea at the time. As I recall, the second season was more of a traditional cop show while the first one was more soap opera.
As you get on, I believe a lot of the racier material becomes the subject of a bit of meta commentary as it usually is set in the ad agency and there is talk about what is appropriate and all the ad campaigns seems to involve T&A. Not that this is better than the early parts, but it at least seems to flow slightly better.
The first season revamp is odd with Annie Jones character. I do feel the surreal elements of the second season do work for a bit before they don't.
