All soaps - actors who were quickly dropped

Judith Baldwin briefly played Beth Logan on B&B before they cast Nancy Burnett.

Stephen Shortridge was Officer Dave Reed on B&B in 1987 and viewers assumed he and Brooke were going to be an item, but they quickly introduced her to Ridge. Stephen was gone after about a year.

Lucy Deakins briefy played Lilly before Martha Byrne. Martha said she lost the role to Lucy only to be cast after she left.

B&B is probably the king of this. There was also that whole story with Sheila's daughter, Erica, that was wrapped up at lightning speed.

I also remember when the woman who played Victor's botanist fling on Y&R, Ramona, was cast on B&B as Deacon's girlfriend, who, in no time at all, went crazy and fell off a building.

Oscar was on the show for about a year; Mark was dropped to recurring after six months but still appeared until 2005; Giovanni was on contract for almost a year and recurred a while after that; and Dante was on contract from June 2005 to October 2006. So none of them were actually dropped "quickly". The fact that they didn't have a major storyline for several months is a whole other issue.

Emily Harrison was dropped as Bridget very quickly in 2004. I think she was on contract for three months.

Massimo's butler Hudson, played by Joseph Marcell, was on contract for maybe a month or so in 2004.

In winter 2006, Shannon Mykel Jenkins was put on contract as Officer Charlie Baker, but he never had a storyline and was gone within a short time. Still he appeared on that year's cast photo.

Mario Lopez as Christian Ramirez only lasted a few weeks in 2006. He was supposed to become Felicia's love interest, but then Felicia was put in a triangle with Bridget and Dante.

Constantine Maroulis as Constantine in 2007 was on contract for a few weeks. He went on tour with Felicia and never came back (thankfully).

Matt Borlenghi as Ziggy in 2002 was on contract for about four months.

Does Amber's twin sister April count? She was gone within two months, I think.

Hector Ramirez had a teenage adoptive son, I think his name was Jimmy. He was dropped once Amber moved in with Hector and Caitlin.

Kristen and Tony's adoptive son Zende was dropped after four months and stopped appearing altogether. A few months later Kristen and Tony also disappeared after they hadn't had a storyline in over a year.

Agreed. B&B is the leader of the pack. The "Erica" story with the much-heralded return of She-Devil was just bizarre. There was so much build-up and then suddenly Sheila is killing some dude with bees - when that happened I knew it was over. I don't understand why this was a major fail - I'm sure they had a longer story planned out.

However, this is one of the advantages that B&B has always had - the ability to quickly refocus stories - combo of production schedule and the 30-minute format.

Oh, and Constantine. Good lord, for a show called "Beautiful," this was wrong, wrong, wrong from conception.

Was Ricky Paull Goldin's recent B&B run only supposed to last 2 episodes? All the casting talk of him joining and it was over before it began.

The girl who played GL's Marina Cooper in between Aubrey Dollar and Mandy Bruno. Kit Paquin. Lasted no more than 2 months.

B&B definitely owns this thread. So many characters are introduced with heavy story and are forgotten within 2 months.

Lisa Sutton played the role of Nancy Feldman on Ryan's Hope for 6 episodes over a two week period. Lisa was then replaced by Megan McCracken and she played the role for 3 months (and then Megan was replaced by Nana Tucker)

I didn't realize McCracken was around for three months, but I guess that's because SoapNet aired two episodes a day. I don't think Nancy ever really worked as a character, but that may have had to do with the fact that they paired her with the post-Malcolm Groome Pats. Blazo and Finnocoli were forgettable and I had a lot of trouble distinguishing Finnocoli and Richard Muenz.

John Blazo was wonderful, they just didn't know what to do with him. They kept pairing him with low-key women. He worked best when he was sparring with Delia or having family moments.

I will never forget the scene where Nancy and Pat were in bed and she said they looked like brother and sister. I felt like the show was addressing a complaint from viewers, but why say it at all???

    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
    • Daytime Confidential did a podcast of the worst mothers in soaps and here were their lists.  5.Felicia Scorpio 4.Reva Shayne 3.Dina Mergeron 2.Helena Cassadine/Shelia Carter 1.Brooke Logan Dishonorable Mentions- Stephanie Forrester,Ann Douglas, Phyllis Summers and Joanna Manning Joshua 5.Anna Devane 4.Diane Jenkins 3.Ava Vitali 2.Shelia Carter 1.Brooke Logan Dishonorable Mentions-Alexis Davis, Felicia Scorpio, Eve Donovan, Heather Webber, Natalia Ramirez, Stephanie Forrester, and Ruth Martin Luke 5.Natalia Ramirez 4.Diana Coville 3.Helena Cassadine 2.Alexis Davis 1.Arlene Vaughn Dishonorable Mentions-Stephanie Forrester Now for my comments. Diana Colville Is that because of the bad DAYS retcon of her being Leo Stark's mother? All of the rest, CO-SIGN!

    • I don't really care about what the men are wearing, or not wearing.   What I care about is focusing on the writing and character development for each of the male characters. Andre really doesn't have a lot of character development that sets him apart from the other male characters except that he seems content to be degraded and mistreated by the elitist Dani.  I would like to know why a good looking younger guy like Andre would willingly be at the mercy of an emotional vampire such as Dani.   Martin, on the other hand, seems to have decent character development.. and it is partly due to how the actor chooses to recite his lines.  Martin was raised in a very privileged household and probably went to the best schools... so it makes sense that he would come across as thinking he was above everyone else.  Most people raised in a upper class situation as the Duprees would view themselves as better than others (it's the same trait Dani seems to employ on those she feels superior to). It makes me wonder how Nicole came out of that family being so warm and nurturing  when her family dynamics seemed very appearance oriented.
    • I know, right. I after just re-reading the thread, I'm like ooppph!
    • Lulu and Dante were divorced before her coma, but she was still in love with him.  He just didn't know.  They haven't been married for years.    I was pretty mixed about Lulu getting involved when it was just a child out there in the world, but now that she realizes it's Gio I am okay with her telling Dante.  It also is her son's sibling.  I still think it's BLQ's choice though.  Lulu is in a rough spot because I think Dante will be mad if she keeps it a secret and Chase, Brook, Lois, etc will be mad if Lulu tells. Without veering too far into the classic area of the show, I had no problem with Robin telling AJ about Michael.  It may not have *exactly* been her place, but she could see how Carly was manipulating the entire situation.  It also ruined her romantic relationship with Jason for good.  Jason and Sonny were furious with Robin and practically ran her out of town, so I think we were to believe she was the bad guy.  It was a bit out of character for Robin to spill, but KMc was leaving the show.
