I've wondered whether they dropped that, because they weren't sure fans would cotton to Marissa otherwise, or because they weren't sure Brittany Allen was believable as someone who worked in such an unsavory environment.

They got higher ratings on both OWN and Hulu due to the fact that All My Children had name marquee outside of the soap community. Plus, while OLTL started out very strongly at the start of the season, it kind of lost momentum mid-way through the season and only righted itself right before the season finale. I think that was due to the writers change, imho.

While All My Children struggled and eventually improved. Did it improve to the point of perfection? No, but it certainly started to resemble AMC of old as the season wore on.

As much as I've always stumped for AMC's stronger brand strength, I don't believe that's the reason AMC did better. If it were just a matter of name recognition I would expect to see both shows rise and fall concurrently but if you look at my chart (hee!) you'll see that there are times that AMC held steady or increased while OLTL went down (8/7, 8/13, 8/20, 9/9, 9/19). That tells me that OLTL viewers were tuning out while AMC viewers were hanging on or tuning in. I admit this is my subjective opinion but based on the Hulu and OWN numbers plus discussion traffic on the boards, I think it's pretty obvious that while some of the difference can be attributed to timeslot and name recognition, the main difference between AMC and OLTL was mainly content related.

On 9/19, OWN aired too recap type episodes of OLTL. I think that day shouldn't really count in the sense that there was a legit reason why it would go down. There was another episode that was accidentally a rerun also, though I am not certain which date that was. Does anyone know?

Speaking as someone who didn't grow up watching either of these shows but only began consistent viewing the last few years of their broadcast runs, I have no 'dog in the race'. Speaking from a writer's perspective, AMC produced more cohesive storytelling, IMO.

Was AMC perfect? Of course not, but they utilized their characters (veterans and newbies) in a more consistent, even-handed manner than OTLT, just my opinion.

Take for example, on OLTL, they didn't truly utilize Bo and Nora, separately or together very well on this inaugural season. I didn't mind the Night Bird podcasts but we really should have seen Nora functioning at least once in her actual day job. Anyone who didn't know better could have come to the conclusion that she was retired. Bo did get to do some detective work but that storyline became a bit convoluted and unwieldy at times, there were all these disparate threads, it just seemed like Bo was kind of floating at times as an offshoot to the action, rather than being in the thick of things.

I compare Bo and Nora to say, Angie and Jesse on AMC, the contrast is apparent.

Perhaps if OLTL had decided to do a take on the tattoo storyline from a slightly different angle, involving more of the characters that they had consistently, like Bo, Nora, Téa, Blair, even Vikki, Clint, Dorian, Dani etc instead of building so much around the 2 Todds (with the actors' situations being so 'iffy') , we might have gotten a slightly fuller, more cohesive storyline.

I get what OLTL was trying to do, but they did have other characters to work with.

Still, there were quite a few parts of OLTL that I really liked and I think both shows have a great deal to work with. I just think OLTL has to do a bit more to 'unearth' all the storyline possibilities that they've planted seeds for.

    • But she's a DUPREE and that makes her immune to any and everything!
    • About the only thing that could really get me interested in this show right now would be a "Who Killed Victor?" storyline IF he stayed dead. The writing for him is atrocious! And the lineup of possible suspects would be most of the canvas. Months worth of great story if done well.....of course...not getting done with Griffith.
    • I really hope you’re wrong. Dani Desperate Dupree being right will make her even more insufferable than she’s already been.
    • I know this board has very strong opinions about Scheffer's reign which run the gamut from brilliant to the nadir of the series.  I'm one of the fans. 2001 - 2005 are, imo, the second best years for the series. The first being Marland.  As The World Turns won Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series in '87 and '91. However, it wasn't until Scheffer came along that it won again...in '01 and '03. Plus it won for Best Writing Team in '01, '02, '04, and '05, an award it had never managed to win before and didn't again. When Scheffer left and Passanante was the main head writer (along with various other co-head writers) the show began to seriously tank. However, it wasn't just the writing. The budget was gone. The sets were made to be smaller or destroyed. There was all that weird hand held camera directing for a while. Scenes that were obviously shot in the hallway where the series was filmed. I think '06 - '10 is a roller coaster. There are some storylines I really enjoyed and some that were eye-rolling. Looking in the rearview mirror though, I can see that the actors, writers, directors, and crew were working their best with what money they had.
    • They are idiots! It seems crazy that Leslie is inserting herself so much into this investigation but everybody is falling into her traps. I find it to be an interesting back and forth and I'm still not completely sure who will win. I have a theory but I'm going to wait for more to develop before I say more. I feel like Haley has been more on the sidelines so I'm enjoying this new desperate streak she appears to be developing. I'm curious how it'll manifest overtime. I also agree with Dani that I am not convinced she's pregnant. I think she's trying to get pregnant but really just see's herself fading into the background and wants attention and validation from Dani and her family.
    • Thanks for sharing; the set, wow. Ten times better than the "penthouse" she lives in now (is that a surprise, though?).
    • I'd be happy to!

I just read the intro and first chapter and I'm already hooked. I know she had a co-author, but I can tell Kim is a firecracker and I'd love to have wine with her and talk sh!t haha. It makes reading the book pretty easy and entertaining. Intro - I had no idea she got a DUI! She shared 3 bottles of wine with a friend at dinner one night in LA, got in her car, was pulled over and thrown in jail overnight.  She admitted it wasn't her first time drinking and driving, but learned a valuable lesson that night. Out of the gate, she's not holding back or hiding anything. Chapter 1 - the announcement that GL was being cancelled. She was driving to Peapack and got a call from Bradley Cole who told her the news. First, that's BS that as one of the faces of GL, you hear the big news from a fellow co-star on your way to work. Granted, the "suits" were traveling to Peapack that day to tell the cast and crew, but still, seems icky. Ironically the news came on April Fools Day. Apparently that was the last day the network could decide whether to cancel or renew, but to Kim's point, couldn't they just pick the day before to avoid the callousness of the 'holiday'. Obviously a sad day in GL history. I thought it was funny, she said the one thing she thought of is "what would Susan Lucci do" in this situation, post-cancellation. And of course she said she'd "find something to hawk on the Home Shopping Network"  You all would know better than me, but part of the title of her book is "seven husbands" and in her intro, she uses Reva's full name: Reva Shayne-Lewis-Lewis-Spaulding-Lewis-Winslow-Cooper-Lewis-Lewis-O'Neill.  However, in the first chapter, she said Bradley Cole was "her 8th (or was it 9th?) husband". Well, Kim, that already contradicts the title of your book and your character's name you touted.
