AMC & OLTL Get Summer Run On OWN

I am thinking that OLTL will survive more than AMC and they are bringing GL and ATWT big guns to the show to get better ratings and attract the fans from those cancelled soaps. OLTL has its matriarch Erica Slezak but AMC does not due to Susan Lucci is unavailable. Too much The David Hayward Show and not enough AMC. OWN might not be able to carry both shows eventually. Something seems off.

You are consistently hilarious.

I'm not expecting huge numbers, but I'm expecting them not to disgrace the very low numbers of OWN. I'm also not sure what he means by unusable.

IMO, OWN needs to move these shows in the 5-7 P.M. timeslots if they want big numbers. That's when most people are off work, and aforementioned, these shows need to be promoted more. Plus, is it just me or have they been running the same episodes in rotation?

Right!!! The factors all the TV people were saying are that A) Little people are home during the day B) DVR ratings don't count after the 24 hour window so why did they choose afternoon? I was expecting a 5-7 time slot.

Jim Romanovich was saying the same thing and I happen to agree with him for once.

The reruns after the new episodes are also weird. I think OWN just wants to fill time.

I am not trying to think "Dooms Day" but I am afraid that they will not be able to fund themselves any longer. I wonder why they didn't go to USA or another network they have a track-record on?????

The schedule is weird and on the first day they showed the first three episodes, so up until Thursday it was all reruns for OWN.

Do you know if this is true?

I saw that on Twitter too- I'll wait for Marc Berman from TVMediaInsights. He's pretty reputable with ratings and said he would report on it as soon as he had something. But he seemed to think that if it was gangbusters ratings on day 1, we would have had a release from OWN by now.

Honestly, with the wonky schedule that I had to read like 6 times to understand and no major offline promotion to reach those people who can't find Hulu, my ratings expectations weren't great. I also have no idea what's acceptable though for a cable network like OWN daytime- I'd imagine its quite low.

Allmc2008 - I put everything behind Son of Bronx's ratings info. Marc Berman and Son of Bronx always post similar ratings info. So yes, I believe these numbers to be true. I don't want to bother Son of Bronx everyday for the ratings, but he probably has them. Just ask.

What in the hell are you talking about?

He's referring to Prospect Park and their already established relationship with USA Network.

I'm sure it's safe to say USA wasn't interested, and even if they were, it's almost guaranteed the shows would have never aired outside of daytime. Whereas on OWN, it's still possible for a more varied schedule somewhere down the line.

Instead of them being on OWN were the ratings are terrible across the board and had financial difficulty since the beginning why couldn't they have put AMC/OLTL on a network they have a track record on that has better ratings overall. Don't they have other shows on USA? If that have a good track record at USA they probably would have been given a better time-slot.

USA wasn't going to do that.

The numbers are also harder to make at USA than OWN, which is a struggling cable network period.

I'm sure if that was the case, they would be on USA or another more popular network. I don't think cable networks were banging down their door this summer with news of a labor dispute & an ep reduction two weeks in. At worst, OWN is providing PP with some short-term cash paying for the ten weeks of eps.

I am not concerned and here's why:

1. It's OWN. The channel is ratings challenged, and many people do not get OWN due to it being in a pay cable package, not basic cable. I do wish that the show was on a more popular basic cable channel. Bravo would be perfect, and they could promote on Real Housewives. Plus, with the slot they were in, I think a show could be considered a success if there was ANY type of pulse whatsoever.

2. Lack of promotion. This has been something I have been meaning to post here, and maybe this is the wrong thread, but has anyone else noticed the complete lack of promotion PP/Hulu has been giving AMC/OLTL. I mean, ABC promotes GH more than PP promotes AMC/OLTL and that is a serious problem. They promoted the returns, now they have to keep promoting these shows if they want people to continue tuning in. Hopefully, as they continue to line their ducks up in a row, this will be addressed. I had such high hopes with the billboards....

3. Poor scheduling. Whoever's idea was it to run 2 previous episodes, a "new" episode, and then a rerun of the "new" episode should be fired. I think AMC/OLTL need to run together in a 1-hour block sometime between 4-7pm.
