PP: AMC & OLTL to air twice weekly

I like both. But that's me.

I do too but people shouldn't be expected to watch both. I know people who would watch the whole ABC DAYTIME lineup of PC, AMC, OLTL GH and then there were people watched some but not all. not all shows appeal to all people

People also didn't watch network soaps every single day. Heck I would go weeks without watching and know I wouldn't miss much.

Right, I think they aknowledge this (in a roundabout way) in their press release.

FOr the online soaps they wanted to modernize them by cutting out things like the endless dialogue recaping that is still done in soaps because they assume most soap fans watch 2-3 times a week. You know characters talking about what happened yesterday or flashbacks. Because they figured online people would have the chance to watch every single episode so it wasn't needed. Now they realize that because of this fact (amongst many others) many people are watching every single episode, but slowly, or they're backlogged...

Which is part of their point in their interview and press release. People are lazy.

OTOH, this does help account for something that has baffled me for years - people who only watch for "their couple" or "their character," FF everything else, don't watch certain days and then act shocked when they are blindsided by something the editing and plotting of the whole week, month or season of episodes made clear was coming. (Especially, it must be said, on RC and FV's shows, where all of that stuff is knitted together.)

So riddle me this, Batman. Why say that they can go back up to 4 eppies if they know the audience is going to binge?

They need to pick a reason for this latest flop and stick with it!

People have been binge watching soaps/shows since the invention of the vcr .....they act like this is something new nbe.jpg

I rarely even watch the network soaps live or even the same day they air. I'm shocked that these guys are surprised by the binge viewing.

Staying optimistic here. This is uncharted territory and they are being proactive in adjusting to what their research is telling them. Everyone I know who is watching is behind at least 2 episodes and some are already 2 weeks behind. It's hard to change habits and it has been tough to get into the habit of remembering to sign on to hulu to watch. Plus, I believe that the production schedules are more nightmare-ish than originally thought. Several behind the scenes people have tweeted about not getting out of the studio until midnight or later trying to edit the shows. I think this will keep evolving.

Getting out of the studio due to editing/post production past midnight is a long day for sure. I think that everything will be OK. Hey, they might use the forced vacation time to have the set designer/decorator and set builders give the Pine Valley folks a Police Department and other set changes with storyline changes, etc. Both shows coming out of the studio is a huge undertaking. The crews working around the clock.

yes on here. You don't recall people complaining about the show taking too long with its reveals and not jumping straight into their stories? JR waking up itself got criticism bc it was stretched out across several episodes instead of him fully waking up the first time he moved

I read that mostly as people just excited ot see him wake up, *shrug*. Many people commented on hwo soapy cliches like David overhearing Cara were done at a much brisker pace than they ever would have been on ABC.

Me too. Shows moved so slowly and would take 6 months or longer just to conclude a storyline arc.

I'm not being hysterical I just am thoroughly familiar with spin tactics and I can read through that press release well enough to know that the reasons they stated aren't legitimately the primary reasons for their actions. As far as being overwhelmed time wise, I would need more info to asses that claim like how many episodes does a similar soap produce per year (the only one I can think of to compare is B&cool.png and then judge that against the fact that they are sharing studio space. That could be a primary reason but since they didn't talk about that in their release I only focused on the fact that the whole "binge viewing" statement and "to accommodate the fans" spin was complete spin. Either way no new start up venture would ever want to admit being overwhelmed or low on funds.

I wish them the best and hopefully they can find a way to pull thing together and provide more content at some point.

Sorry! My post shoudl have been more divided--I addressed your post in my first comment but my point about hysterical soap fans online was about them in general--on FB, twitter, other forums, and yes, on ere, not you in particular at all.

I think PP fails to understand that people always have marathon watched shows especially in the hulu/netflix era. A lot of my friends marathon watch Revenge, OUAT, etc over a weekend span with little trouble, so PP's reasoning that the fans can't keep up is stupid.

They should just admit that they should have started out 3x a week at 30 minutes, and if viewership was consistent then expand to 4x a week. I remember reading shows such as Eastenders starting out at 2x then gradually increasing their weekly output once viewership grew.

However, to go from 4x to 2x makes viewers panic and assume that they shows are in trouble. With ABC/PP jerking the viewers around, they shouldn't be surprised at any negative reactions/panic coming from the fans.

I tweeted to one of the actors explaining this, and some a-hole told me that I was wrong to assume PP were jerking us around and said they saved the soaps.. then blocked me from replying back to state that it was a feeling I was feeling.

I've never got that, either. I make no claims to being a better soap fan than people who do, by any means, but really, I tend to either watch a whole episode, or I just don't watch that episode or stop following the show as heavily. SUre if a story or character I find boring is on I'll prob pick up the paper and read, and I've been known to spend long periods with shows (like Higley's OLTL) where I really could only say I half watched--always was doing homework or something else at the same time, but the whole FF thing for some reason confuses me--it just is something I can't identify with--FFing until suddenly I see the two characters on a show I like. I guess I tend to more or less either like a show, or not.

I guess maybe because we have already lost them once before, but if this fails I really won't be as upset as the first time. I have been binge viewing as I don't really feel like watching them until I have time to sit down and watch no interruptions. I really don't know why PP is surprised by this. But it is what it is at this point.

People who are deciding not to support this then they will be gone forever. I am surprised at fans who wanted nothing more then these shows to return and don't want to watch or support.

No worries, it didn't read as rude either way. P.S. us southern girls prefer to think of it as being a little tightly wound on certain subjects ;)

I want quality over quanity so if this gives the shows more time to perfect their shows that is a major plus
