I'm sorry not to have mentioned anything to you, Cheap. TBH when I found out last week, it hit me hard, and I was kind of in shock for the whole week. He was a lovely guy, his sweetness and vulnerability really came through his performances and interviews, and in his solo music. Hearing about his struggle with depression and feelings of failure... he was so talented a shining talent, and yet felt like he was worthless! I am finding that especially hard to accept. Seeing his SHINee bandmates and fellow SM idols at the funeral on the news was especially painful. I kept away from online forums as a result, including this place. So please forgive me for not breaking the news to you beforehand.

How are you doing? I know it must have been a shock. These idols live under immense pressure from their companies and the fans who criticise them... it's not an enviable life, is it. I hope you are doing ok -- it's an awful shock, I know.

I'm glad you weren't horribly affected by this -- it's hard news to take. Yes, I also have been drifting away from kpop. This death and TOP's treatment by so-called fans and YG really highlight the dark side of this industry and the society over there. I keep up with EXO and maybe a few other songs but the Twice/BTS stuff driving kpop at the moment doesn't do much for me.

@Cheap21 I don't know if you are into kpop ballads, but EXO's Christmas album, Universe, had some good ones. And iKon just came back with a new album which is getting good reviews.

Lately I've been listening to Red Velvet's newest release, Bad Boy. Even though I'm not really a girl group person, I love the slow jam melody.

Funny. I just stumbled upon “Love Scenario” from that new iKON album you mentioned @Cat, and wow, it’s a banger. Love it. Reminds me of early 2000s R&B boy bands in the best way.

And the next song might be even better.

@Cheap21 Really glad you liked it! I heard it and thought you would enjoy it a lot. I think it's their best track in a couple of years, actually. The choreo is good, too, because everybody gets a twirl out in front.

BTW, EXO and CL will be performing at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics on the 25th. Would love it if they share a stage, as random as that combination would be together.

@Faulkner iKon's latest album is so good, isn't it? I have it on rotation on Spotify. I think this is the album where they really break through to the kpop mainstream.

Very cool. I’m a Kpop neophyte, but I like what I’ve been hearing so far. Lots of experimentation and a maximinalist approach to pop (sort of like PC Music). It’s a good change of pace from the monotonous bass drops and trap beats of most top 40 pop these days. I’m used to listening to songs in languages I don’t understand, so that’s not a problem.

EXO's Kai released some pics from his family's vacation to Hawaii (fans had been asking), and one of the pics is this one:

Is... is that Y&R playing in the background?? Kpop and soaps finally meet!

I love a lot of the arrangements and experimentation in kpop, and also notice that some songs have a 80s or 90s edge to them lately, which is a sound I like.

My favorite moments are with Erika and then Robin and Tim Stickney around 7/8 minutes. There are also little yellow bumper moments with the crew, which I enjoy more than the real ones.  There's also a music video at the end to I Will Survive, with Linda Dano and JFP having a cameo (they certainly do know how to survive). Also a fun bit with a frazzled crew member showing cards with the names of every EP she presumably worked for at the show.
    • I think in the long run they can probably get more out of Gio, even though I know GM probably won't be around long enough for it to matter. The show has a real problem on how to handle Nik in future, which affected Spencer. Laura is moribund and her role in Spencer's story didn't do her many favors. They would have kept Esme around even longer. A lot of Sprina fans would have hated GM as he was replacing NAC. And even the fans who did accept him wouldn't have mattered because Frank likely would have split that relationship up ASAP. There's a good chance we'd get a Spencer/Emma pairing, only with Emma and the actress playing her getting dragged on social media every day and with people calling her a racist.
    • I like the pool set as well.  It's something different, guys and girls in skimpy clothes and all that.  I dislike when they have characters in full on business attire having meetings there though.  That seems silly. The pool depth is also ridiculous.  They should just have characters sitting on the side with their feet in the pool if they can't shoot it correctly.
    • I also assumed Tanquir was in Africa. Montega was in the Caribbean, more like Cuba.
    • I got the impression Andre was opening up to Dani about his feelings, that's why I thought he was about to admit he was in love with her. Dani has no idea that what's good for her is right in front of her face. Tomorrow we might get a love scene set to an R&B slow jam.
    • No, he was pining for that walking sleeping pill Ashley, and then later texted Dani for a hookup when he felt lonely. He and Dani got into it a bit as she’s not ready to be seen openly with him still, and they both realized they were hung up on other people - Andre on Ashley (thought he never said her name) and especially Dani on Bill.  Of course neither learnt anything and then proceeded to have sex again.
    • I'm glad there's a pool set if only for the eye candy. I do think they need to be careful when filming. Today, the direction was off with Kai in the pool -- it looked like he was sitting in a wading pool, and it was clear there was no depth to the water. Also, as I mentioned before, the view from those large windows looks fake as hell.
    • From my notes: San Cristobal with an “a” is from ANOTHER WORLD. Mac, Carl, their fathers, Ian Rains & his father, and Paulina had history on that equatorial island. Paulina was visiting there researching her past & fell for both Ian & Jake McKinnon! San Cristobel with an “e” is from GUIDING LIGHT and is the island kingdom where Prince Richard & Prince Edmund were from. Others with history there were Reva when she was Princess Katherine, Jonathan, Olivia, etc.
    • Schenkel was indeed a disaster.     During 1985, the following characters exited the show: Brian Bancroft, Sandy Cory, Blaine Ewing Cory, Jamie Frame, the first Peter Love, Alice Matthews Frame, Ben McKinnon, Vince McKinnon, Mark Singleton, Perry Hutchins, Grant Todd, and Tony the Tuna.   The following characters were introduced and quickly disappeared Chris Chapin, Neal Cory, Dee Evans, Daniel Gabriel, Michaud Christophe, Edward Gerard, Daphne Grimaldi, Zane Lindquist, and Brittany Peterson.   The only successful characters Schenkel introduced were Bridget Connell, Vicky Hudson, and Jake McKinnon.   Schenkel recasted the popular Sally Frame with Taylor Miller when Mary Page Keller left AW.  Also, he recasted Peter Love twice in 1985 with Christopher Holder and Marcus Smythe.   Schenkel brought back Carl Hutchins for the Egyptian/Arizona treasure story with the poisonous dust.
