Well, to say the least, the awards were -- interesting. The alligator may have been the highlight of the show. I would have loved to have seen it take a great big bite out of the Emmy Award. I appreciated Cameron Matthison giving a shout out to GL & ATWT (but, I'm sure, there will be Passions fans who will be ticked off that Passions was not mentioned. I never thought of Passions as a soap -- I thought of it as a comic strip.)

At last year's awards, with Jon and Kelley Menighan Hensley, our beloved ATWT received a 40 second tribute. How can you properly pay tribute to a 54 year long show in 40 seconds?

The 'In Memoriam,' sadly, did not include Linda Cook, who played Laurie Ann Karr Lamont Dallas on 'The Edge of Night' from 1975-77, and 1984, and Egypt on 'Loving' from 1988-91, and 1993-94). An even bigger oversight our beloved Anthony Herrera, whose character of James Stenbeck on ATWT spanned three decades. Totally unforgivable and inexcusable!

That was a big oversight on their part. I felt the show was 'forced.' And, even with Susan Lucci surrounded by Erika Slezak and Cameron Matthison, I felt an awkwardness.

Susan Lucci may be considered the Queen of Daytime for her 41 years on AMC, but was there any tribute given to Erika Slezak and her 40 year run on OLTL. No, not one word. It was if she was an 'Under five line' day player. Again, outrageously unforgivable!

OLTL was barely even mentioned, as opposed to AMC. I was rooting for two categories - Younger Actor & Actress. My friend Steve is about to throw in the towel on watching DOOL after 25 years. He, in fact, has told me that when Molly Burnett leaves in a couple of months, he will leave Salem, too. I was happy for Chandler Massey winning, was disappointed that Molly didn't win (we share the same birthday).

If they didn't devote half of the show on these 'new' categories, there would have been more time to properly give tribute to AMC and OLTL.

As Erika Slezak said, the soaps were the backbone of daytime. But, now with only four shows left on the air, they are relegated to the nose-bleed section of the auditorium, behind the 'new approaches' category, the culinary category and the judge show category.

The usual suspects won...GH, Anthony Geary, Jonathan Jackson, and Jeopardy. I do not begrudge 'Jeopardy's' win, because I am an information junkie, and I will regularly yell out the answers before the contestants do. My dear wife gently admonishes me by saying that they can not hear me.

I was scratching my head about the DOOL Writing Award win, because my friend Steve has not been happy with the writing. And, neither were the TPTB at Days, apparently, because they gave last year's writing team the pink slip.

The producing team of 'General Hospital' were also given the sack, but they won for Best Daytime Drama Series.

With only four shows left on the air, it might be better for them to hold a non-televised banquet, as the Academy Awards did, for motion pictures, in the late 1920's and 1930s.

I am just so grateful that Moonves' wifey-poo and her fellow yackers on 'The Talk' did not win, if they had, I would have gotten sick.

The more I analyzed the show last night, the more revved up I got to putting my words into writing. I was also thinking about the future, the far distant future, and how soap history will be written. ATWT's Hank Elliott (Brian Starcher - 1988-89) will be remembered as the first gay character and Chandler Massey (DOOL) will be remembered as the first actor to play a gay character to win an Emmy Award. Van Hansis will be just a footnote, despite his three Emmy nominations for his role of Luke Snyder on ATWT.

Frankly, I am surprised that they did not give the Lifetime Achievement Awards to Brian Frons and Les Moonves. During the course of his career, Brian Frons killed Search for Tomorrow at CBS in 1982 and again in 1986 on NBC after a 35 year combined run, and AMC and OLTL in 2011. Les Moonves obliterated 126 years of broadcast history with the cancellations of GL in 2009 and ATWT in 2010. If ever there two men who changed the face of daytime, they certainly are the ones.

I have been a life-long soap fan, and, I firmly believe that the soaps deserved better treatment than they received with this year's Emmy Award broadcast. As Anthony Geary said, we are heading in the direction of seeing 'Celebrity Boob Jobs Gone Wrong' on our daytime television screens.

I saw Susan Lucci pretty close one time. She was on her way to one of the AMC fan luncheons in NYC. Let's just say, take away the tons of makeup she was wearing, and I think she would look a whole lot different, looking more her age. Same with Robin Strasser. I saw her one time outside the OLTL studios without makeup. And she looked old.

Hey, she's been without a steady paycheck for almost a year, so I don't blame her for recycyling! As for the hair, on Andy Cohen's show she said she still keeps in touch with and still uses the hair and makeup team (BOTH east coast and west coast) from All My Children. I guess the west coast team was on vaca? huh.png

That cracks me up - when she's on the View or other shows, her castmates and the ladies on the view always say how gorgeous she looked when she came to the studio with no make up on. :P

I haven't personally met her, but I have good friends who have seen her up close, and they both said she was incredibly beautiful and absurdly, ridiculously tiny.

Frankly, I'd expect her to look "old" - she's 65! But I still say she looks damn good for 65.

As for La Lucci she comes off so fake and phony to me...I never have liked her as an actress .....I'm sure she will be just as bad on devious maids as she was on AMC and Dallas...and those TV movie specials. I was just laughing when no one gave a damn during her Erica Kane speech....lol

La Lucci and Deidre Hall:

Sadly for La Lucci, I thought Deidre looked better, although they both look amazing for 64 and 65.

From what I've heard, the only people Cady thought highly of were the male costars she was trying to get into bed at the time, namely MEK, VI, and TK.

    • Strangely, it was Phillip who invited Evie to go to the ball with him. She had been taking care of Samantha, so I guess it was a way to thank her for helping Justin after Jackie's death? So she was not invited by Vanessa. Phillip brought her as his plus one. That Evie stayed on the canvas so long is extremely odd, especially since Ben was gone way before her. My theory is Marland was going to bring Rita back, so they wanted Evie to remain in place as her sounding board. When he left and Potter was still EP, that might have still been the plan. Once Kobe came in, that would have been thrown in the dumpster along with a lot of other story plans and characters.
    • Nina and Portia are generally presented as entirely too savvy to not think this ketamine (don't even GET me started on that) nonsense wouldn't immediately blow up in their face. Drew, the ex-navy seal and congressman, wouldn't get a drug test immediately after acting wildly out of character? Portia allowed this to so easily be traced back to her by roping in Brad, a man who can't stand her? Nina didn't think Willow would Stand By Her Man? Girl, PAY ATTENTION! I also find it disturbing how BOTH of them are gaslighting Willow. It feels gross. They should have presented Gio as anything other than a responsible, genial and affable guy if they wanted us to buy any of Dante's ranting about him. You've known this kid since he was a baby and suddenly you're yelling at him like he's the devil incarnate? It was so forced. Every one of them, including Dante, know that they all would have done the same thing in Gio's shoes. Teen gets drunk, friends cover for them. Gio's only 5 years older than him, barely allowed to legally drink himself. How was he to know the kid had alcohol poisoning? Alexa Havins crying every day over keeping a baby secret. Ahh memories. Molly and Kristina are just the worst to their mom and Alexis allows it. Kristina does need to be committed, she's a danger to herself and others. I wish Alexis would just tell her that she knows. I can't wait until Molly finds out about her almost getting Ric and Liz killed. I need her to body slam Kristina. Sasha thinks she knows EVERYTHING. She's always giving advice and painted as right no matter what. And so holier than thou while carrying a married man's baby.
    • Correction, Chicago Hope 1994/95 was initially Thursday 9 pm, a CBS dead zone and head-to-head w/ Seinfeld. 1994/95 CBS Thursday 10 pm initially was Eye to Eye with Connie Chung. Later in the season CBS did a scheduling shift with Chicago Hope moving to Monday 10 pm, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung moving to Thursday 9 pm, and 48 Hours moving from Wednesday 10 pm to Thursday 10 pm.

    • A--I wish someone would post a better vid of the entire ball, as it must be out there. And B--nope. Evie is only in a small segment of the ball with Phillip, Rick and Mindy. She doesn't dance at all. Ross dances with Helena and Amanda. I'm not even sure why Evie is at the ball---Vanessa heartily disliked her. I did see that Billy actually asked Henry to introduce him to Vanessa, which I hadn't realized.
    • Honestly, they should've ordered more of 2000 Malibu Road for the 1992-93 midseason and aired it when Knots went on a break. That was probably their best shot.    Then of course they fumbled Central Park West by airing it in the 9PM slot instead of a 10PM slot where it would've been away from the Fox dramas. CPW got its best rating by airing randomly on a Sunday and when it was taken off the air for a "re-tooling", Party of Five's ratings actually had a spike, so clearly they were feeding off each other. But being a smaller network focused on a certain demographic, Fox could afford to be patient Party of Five, CBS couldn't...
    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
    • I don’t recall MSW having a toy line in the late 80’s or early 90’s like all those Saturday morning cartoons did LOL but thought this was cute when I saw it in a vintage toy store yesterday:
