Members DRW50
Anyone who has a spark with Jill pays a price. All this for Genie Francis and crashing ratings.
Members Cat
I loved Colin. TR looked like he was having a ball. There is something to be said for an actor who is confident and proficient and knows his cues. Moreover, he clicked with Jess Walton is a big way, clicked with Judith Chapman, his character pissed off Granny Chancellor no end (BIG plus in my book) and he totally reamed Cane/Ethan out (voice of the audience in certain respects). This was the type of character that Whatshisname McCall SHOULD have been. Tristan Rogers was as big a Daytime legend as Eric Braeden back in the day, if not bigger, and these are two actors-of-a-certain-age who can go toe to toe with one another. ETA: Tucker! His name is Tucker. That's how memorable he is.
Members JaneAusten
I think Y&R's ratings crashed long before Genie showed up, in fact I think it goes back to the Cane Austrailian mob crap. I loved Colin but the actual story and rewritten back story was ridiculous. Plus wasn't all that Skye volcano and Diane stuff going on then? A bunch of crap stories. Not that Genie and that Cane resurrection crap helped. It was awful. But the Diane stuff, killing off Jana for Chloe, the failed attempts to make Eden Reigel work, all bad. Then bringing in Genie while MTS went MIA was ridiculous and was the icing on the cake.
Members alphanguy74
Carl... I think this may be becuase I have heard that Jess Walton is wanting to slow down and go into semi-retirement. But Jill is too important to the show, IMO for that to happen. If this tend continues, I think Jess either needs to fight for her character and let her take the forefront where she belongs, or step aside and let Brenda assume the duties. Members SFK
Speaking of Jill, I'll get my Cheap on for a moment and say that I think her hair looks nicer this way. So, is MCE essentially playing a spin on crazy Annie? Seems like it if I'm judging by today's show. You guys must be so sick of Lily and Cane by now. I need to see more of Harmony and Devon, I'm mad that I missed the beginning of Debbi's run. This is... different. But I'm reserving judgment. Meanwhile, Bryton's delivery in some ways reminds me of Darnell's. It's subtle, but it's there. Too bad they probably won't be related. I know I know, hot lights, melting, but ugh at those fake ass looking snowmen.
Members DRW50
You missed the controversy over her calling Phyllis "Miss Phyllis." MAB is honoring movies once again with TBSL. No, not The Help. It's more like Showboat. As for Jess, I can't blame her if she wants to slow down, but I wonder if she'd feel that way if she hadn't been so shamed and mistreated by the show in recent years. I still think the only reason she wasn't fired in 2009 was fan complaints and her probably accepting the barest of bones.
Members SFK
Oh yes, I chimed in on the "Miss Phyllis" thing. Even better: Harmony: Miss Phyllis? Phyllis: *spits water in her face* Yeah, sweetie? Are they setting this up like Harmony is going to majorly disappoint Devon in some way or do you think she's solidly sympathetic... at least for now? Members DRW50
I guess if she does disappoint him it will be something she can't help (being a woman and all). Only if MAB does another power play and Debbi is fired will we see more of the demonization.
Members cattykittens
Where are you getting the idea Jess Walton wants to slow down? I've never heard her or anyone say that. In her intereview last week she sounded like she loved the character of Jill, loved working, and was very hurt when Y&R fired TR. Her son & his wife moved to Oregon so she bought a place up there too, I think she still has a place in LA and planning on going back and forth, It's not a bad flight timewise. I hear Debbie Morgan commutes from the east coast-now that would be rough. I think JW would love it if Jill had more air-time, it's TPTB that aren't giving to her. They seem to go to great lengths to write around her. It's apparent she isn't one of MABs favorites, and since they re-cast Tucker they've given Jill very little to do. I loved Brenda's JILL, but even if BD took over the role it would be nothing like it was 30 years ago. All the vets look great in their youth and Y&R golden age, but it wouldn't be that way now. BD wouldn't look the same and they wouldn't write her that way either. JW's Jill came off classsier, more professional, and I think she grew more of a heart, but the MAB writing regime has really dumbed her down and weaked her the last couple of years. Do you think for one minute they would let BD vamp around like she used to? NO way. Y&R woman are controlled by the men and percieved golddiggers get the Diane or Chloe treatment. Going back now would be a disaster. BD was the young Jill, JW is Jill to me now.
Members ladyceejay
Lord have mercy! I think I hate Ricky more than I hated his crazy mother!! He is truly dispicable....... hard to believe he is Paul's son. ..........I'm just sayin'
Members Chris B
Debbi Morgan is on the red eye as I type this, to film one show! I'm sure it's an easy commute in that case. For February she's only appearing in five episodes, so I doubt she has to go back in forth much, unfortunately. With Jess Walton it is just sick. She wants to work, is important on the show and could be used in the same position as say a Genevieve. They could easily pair her with Jack, have her buy Beauty of Nature or they could've pursued the storyline with Colin and had more success simply because viewers enjoy Jill. If she leaves the show it will be there fault and we'll have to endure more stuntcasting. After 26 years, Jill CAN'T be recast, but they will do it in a heartbeat. That shows a total lack of respect for what she did in the role, but I'm expecting it.
Members alphanguy74
Wow... just WOW. Today was the best episode this show has had in a very long time. i'm still crying from the final scene. I don't care that people don't like Jeff Branson, I do. He reminds me of Iron Eyes Cody in his scenes. He draws you in with his eyes and very subtle expressions. And what perfect background music, and Tricia Cast once again hits it out of the park, and with the exception of the lame Cane and Lily crap... notice how much better the show has been lately with Jess onscreen, Beth back, and Tricia upfront. Those three women can carry this show like no other. All 3 need to be front burner, and this show would be GOOD. I realize my Iron Eyes Cody reference might be too old for most of you to know... so this is it: Please register in order to view this content The more I think about it, another thing that makes me like Branson so much with Tricia is that he provides such a stark contrast to her. I think it makes each of them much more compelling. the Ronan/Nina scenes today were what classic Y&R is all about, it's nice to see at least pieces of what this show used to be. Members durk
Yes the ending was done very well. And they even played a classic score to go along with the scene. I just wished the writers would have explored the Nina/Ronan dynamic more, it would have added to the scene
Members alphanguy74
And I TOTALLY see why they cast Catherine Bach in this role. She doesn't look like "Daisy Duke" anymore... she's a fine actress, and she looks like her onscreen daughter. I think it was a good choice. I'm hoping that Branson is not leaving the show right about now. Tomorrow's previews look good, Ricky's motivation for writing about Patty was Paul not trying to help his mother... good move. Finally a true human character motivation.
Members DRW50
It would be more believable if they hadn't aged the character so much and if he hadn't been written as evil from the start. Casting an actor would have helped.
