Ugh! Thank you... Something told me it was Schock.

At first, I thought that Korte would salvage the Carlivati scripts. Now I'm beginning to doubt her ability and believe that she was coasting on the EXCELLENT skills of Guza's script writing team (Michele Val Jean, Mary Sue Price, Susan Wald, Nathan Fissell and even my least favorite, Karen Harris), because the dialogue that has been recited on screen these last six months has been DREADFUL! The clunky expository dialogue. The awkward phrasing. The lack of character-driven dialogue (I'll never forget Spinelli actually referring to Sonny as "Sonny" and Alexis referring to Mac as Maxie's "uncle" repeatedly instead of "father" or "stepfather").

I don't think that is Korte's fault if there's a mandate by Frank or Ron to have the dialogue "stylized". Some HWs like Bill Bell and Jim Reilly had "stylized" dialogue - most people don't like it but I personally don't mind the expository dialogue, or awkward phrasing, or recaps, or false tags. I'm used to that.

So this leaves Korte is the sole survivor from the Guza regime. She's been with the show since 1996. Usually the script editor leaves early into a new regime, so it looks like Carlivati is going to keep her around.

I don't see the point in keeping her, as she had a long history with the old/Guza's team and was more knowledgeable of their strengths when assigning scripts. She doesn't have the same innate knowledge of these writers.

She's easily replaceable at the moment, so I wonder why they've kept her.

OLTL never had good dialogue, even when some of those scriptwriters were on the team pre-Carlivati being HW, they still wrote some of the most generic and rudimentary dialogue ever.

I miss Guza's team, but I will say, whenever I tune into B&B, it's almost always easy to spot scrips by Michele Val Jean. I'm happy she's still around somewhere in daytime.

Well, Korte did work with them for a long time. She's only had about 6 months with the new team.

She knows the history of the show?

I've only been able to guess a couple of her scripts (like the Liam/Bill "father" scenes from eariler this year). B&B rarely has any scenes where they showcase the dialogue but when they do, it's mostly either MVJ's or Mulcahey's.

    • I just had an epiphany. The most drag moment in soap history is the introduction of Lucy Coe on GH. Miss Coe was the Medical School Librarian.  She was a mousy blond who was called to the stand by the defense of Kevin O'Connor.  She wore her hair in a bun, a blouse buttoned up to the neck, and a modest skirt with flats.  She testified that Kevin was studying at the time of the murder, for which he was on trial, thus clearing him of the charges against him. When we next saw Ms Coe, she arrived home, let down her hair, stripped down to lingerie, threw on a pair of heels, and sprayed some perfume.  Soon, there was a knock on the door, and it was Kevin. Now, that's drag!

    • A really good show to start the week. Philip is really going to shoot himself in the foot, isn't he? He should just be grateful he still is co CEO on paper, but instead he is trying to insert himself into the Hospital takeover. I worry he is going to mess up the whole thing and Xander won't get it, and Bo won't get the cure. Eventually Xander will have to fire him. Alex and Brady were both great today shutting him down. Amused me that nobody has bothered to clue Brady in on the forged letter fiasco. Kristen and Brady discussing their messed up child was very good. I liked that Kristen finally acknowledged her culpability in what Rachel has become. And her interactions with Alex were good too. Alex is strangly working for me these days. Apart from his obsession with Stephanie's soft core porn book of course. I'm in love with Doug3 and Holly. That is all.

Glad that Johnny and Chanel have worked things out. They do communicate well. I think he will be the next arrest in the shooting though. Kate and Roman's discussion would have been better if she had been honest about her recent involvement in corporate fraud, but glad he explained about the gun. Why does Alex have a CEO plaque on his desk? That was SO last year

This news definitely made my day!!! So happy for MVJ, the cast and crew, and all it's faithful fans.
    • Despite having never watched Ryan's Hope, I read Tom Lisanti's book recently as I'm fascinated by behind the scenes stories of soap production. A really enjoyable read, which gave a good sense of the show and New York at that time.  I have to say though, that the vitriol regarding the quality (or lack thereof) of Loving only makes me want to watch that show even more! (It's on my list anyway as I've never seen The Loving Murders).
